Strength:

Very Clear, only $20 bucks! sounds great w/ a sub.

Weakness:

rattle a little bit at high levels, wish i could add some dampening but can't open them up.

great little speakers. i went to best buy looking for some nice surround speakers to improve my exsisting system when i saw these little things at $10 bucks each. i wasn't expecting much but i was pleasantly surprized at the sound quality. when i got them home, holy *$#@. i just wish i could pack them so no rattling would be heard when i turn my system up LOUD.

Strength:

Solid little speaker. Great construction, free good quality mounting brackets included, cheap!!

Weakness:

Lacks in the low end bass department, but, it's a 4" woofer, what do you expect? However you can still hear the bass guitar, drums, etc. - it's not that bad

Wow! What a surprise! I was looking to get some decent outdoor speakers to mount on my porch, and I came across these little guys for 20 $ a pair. sounded ok, so I took 'em home, and wired 'em up. Fantastic! These sounded much, much better than the Bose (no surprise, plus they were about 200 bucks less), included free mounting brackets, and, well, just were good. They sound even better on my porch then in the store. My reciever only sends 50 watts to the channel, and as my porch is small I don't need to crank them anyway, and they're very efficient. Great design, solid construction, amazing deal! Little lacking in low end, but it's to be expected, and it's not a serious problem. Pick these up! I just wish I'd gotten another pair.

Strength:

Excellent sound for $20 a pair. They sound better tan any of the other KLH's at BestBuy going up to the $75 price. point.

Weakness:

Alot but for $20 what do you want! Mainly wish I could remove the grills.

OK these are not Paradigm Atoms, but I could get 6 pairs for what I paid for my pair of Atoms. I am using these to replace the cheap speakers that came with my computer. They are hooked up to a old Technics DPL receiver and sound great. I am considering buying a few more pairs to hook up a full compact surround system in the bedroom. For HT they would definately need a sub, but for someone looking for a extremely low budget speaker system, these are a great option. Wow 6.1 for $60 plus the price of a sub!

Strength:

Cheap, small, good sound

Weakness:

Not magnetically shielded, 40 watts max input

Was killing time at Best Buys while wife and daughter shopping else where and saw these for $19.95 per pair. Listened to them in the store, no rattling, not too bright, sounded better than the other KLH model at $39 each. So what the heck I bought them.

First hooked them up to compare against my Polk RT12's. I was pleasantly suprised to hear how good they sounded. I have a sub to fill in the lower end. If you are looking for a small speaker this is it. You will need a subwoofer to augment the low frequencies but for $20 and price of a low cost subwoofer, I think you will have a fine sounding system. I am using the 970A as the effects speakers in my system.

System consists of:
Yamaha 2092 reciever
Audio Source AMP 3 for front speakers
Polk RT12 front speakers
Polk CS250 center
Polk RT/fx rear
Velodyne HGS 10 Sub
KLH 970A effects speakers

Strength:

Sounds great, durable, cheap price, excellent value

Weakness:

They aren't magnetically shielded, but I'm nitpicking.

Finally!
When did they get the review page for this product up? I've been waiting a long time to rave about these speakers. These three-way speakers are great throughout the ranges. I got my first pair at Meijer for about 26 or 27 dollars. I got 2 more pairs at Best Buy for about 20 dollars a pair. Their mounting brackets are handy and sturdy too. I actually haven't tried 'em outside yet so don't know how that works. Also, a slight clarification, the 911B's I mentioned in the similar products field I just bought, that is after I bought the 970's. The reason I bought the 911's is because I wanted to put a set of speakers next to a computer monitor. The 970's are magnetically shielded. However, they are only two way. So far nice though, but that's a different review for a different day. The bottom line is I've heard much, much, much more expensive speakers that sounded a whole lot worse than these. Buy them today! You can't go wrong.

Weakness:

None at this price.

KLH amazes me. A Radioshack tweeter is about $19, and these three way rear surround speakers are only $15? On my Aiwa shelf system, only 5 watts are sent to the rear surrounds, so I was not going to spend much. When I did my research, I found these, at $30 a pair, and then many others well above that. I could not pass that up. These speakers are solid, they do not rattle, and are built with excellent craftsmanship.

My expectations were not too high at that price, but I found that except for a lack in the low bass department (4 inch woofer) these speakers were extremely crisp and clear, and unobtrusive. They easily stand out with the right music (rock & classic rock) and still stand out, even up against my pair of mammoth Sansui SP-2500's in front. On songs like Days Of The New - Downtown, The Who - Behind Blue Eyes, and Led Zeppelin - Tangerine, the acustic guitars fill the room, and you can hear the strumming of each string.

Anyone in the market for a rear surround or small bookshelf speaker should check these out. Even if you are not needing a pair of speakers, at $15 a piece, these are hard to pass up. And, if you should ever decide to stop using them in your surround-sound setup, you can always take them outside. And, if you ever decide to stop using them completely, then you are only out $30. What can I say now, other than the fact that COST IN NO WAY IS RELEVANT IN QUALITY. All of you who think you are too good for a KLH product should think twice. These represent the best value for anyone's dollar.

Weakness:

No weaknesses considering the price

I got these on sale at Best Buy about 8 months ago. I use 2 pairs of these speakers along with 2 10" subs and my old Dolby Pro Logic receiver for my computer system. This setup sounds alot better that the computer systems around and cost about 1/2 the price!

I hooked them to my HT receiver and was not too impressed with the sound. My main HT receiver reveals alot more limitations of these speakers than my old DPL receiver does. If I desperately needed surrounds and these were the only speakers I had I would use them, but would upgrade ASAP. I would not recommend them for your main home theater, spend some cash and get some Paradigm Atoms if you want a small bookshelf.

BUT:

They would work great for a lower end bedroom system or for a computer system like I have as long as you add a sub(or two). If you are on a major budget I think they are a good value for $20-30, but wouldn't pay anymore than that to get them!

ALSO:

A D-> you are an idiot if you actually thought $20 speakers would sound great! Surely you are not that dumb though!?

Stereo Man-> I am fairly positive you are trying to make/create some form of a joke considering the size of these speakers, I just can't find the humor anywhere, but thanks for not giving it bad ratings!

Strength:

Price v. Performance Ratio

Weakness:

None at $30

There is a reviewer below castrating others here that give this speaker five stars. What an idiot! Everything in life is relative, including evaluation of audio equipment. This speaker is a Great Buy at $30, and for that it deserves five stars. In the past, I've spent 8k on BW802s, but I was sad and constantly critical of the sound. My "Krell phase" was an even more unspeakable tragedy. I stumbled onto the KLH 970a when I was looking for some - in my mind -"disposable" temporary speakers for my plasma tv, which required external speakers. They do a fine job for tv dialogue and music. Maybe I'll just stay with these and save my money for car and house.

Strength:

Great performance for the money!

Weakness:

Not a whole lot of bass response.

I just picked these up recently to move up a bit from my Sony surrounds. For the amount that I paid, these are incredible speakers. Very crisp, and the sound is not very obvious (blends in well with the rest of my speakers). Overall, if you're looking for some starter surround speakers, you wont be disappointed with these.
