Strength:

Everything!!!!! These ARE the best sounding speakers made (...and if I haven't hit you over the head with it at this point, REMEMBER: I have Klispchorns...AND I've bought and sold a set of LaScalas since I bought the Cornwalls.!)

Weakness:

All your friends think you're stupid for buying 30 year old speakers that, by today's standards, are almost laughably big. But you can always blow thier mind with just how incredible these speakers sound and you can remind them that you paid a fraction for what they paid for thier late model "JBLPOLKBOSE Whatevers"

Ok, I posted back on 12/2006 (?) about my Cornwall I's (see below). I have just purchased another set of Cornwalls from Ebay. I havent picked them up yet. (my wife didnt even get mad ...I WIN!). Im adding this thought because Ive had additional experience with Klispch speakers that I should pass along. In that my prior posting, I mentioned "the problems" I've heard with room size, and speaker placement with the Klispchorns. Turns out that its true. I purchased a set in Feb, 2007 and have used them as my main speakers ever since. Quite frankly, I miss my Cornwalls (as my main speakers). Now I'm not bashing the Klipschorns...they sound very nice ....but in my room, they dont sound as nice as my intitial pair of Cornwall's.

Essentially what I'm saying is...if you are thinking about Klispchorns v Cornwalls. make sure you have an ENORMOUS ROOM before you buy the Klipschorns. I was able to use the equalizer function of my stereo system to soften the somewhat harsh midrange on the Klispchorns...and as a result...they just don't produce the soundstage and nuances that my Cornwalls do. Oh sure I could continue to tweak the settings, the placement and layout of the room etc., but I'm too busy to spend any more time trying to ge the Klipshorns to sound perfect in a room where I am certain they wont ever sound perfect.

What I'm saying is, take a MUCH less expensive pair of Cornwalls, connect them to any old stereo, and place them wherever they fit....then just sit back and be amazed! Believe me, as much as I lusted for a set of Klipschorns (and no, I don't want to get rid of them because some happy day, I WILL have a big listening room), I would sooner sell my Klipschorns before I sold my Cornwalls.

Strength:

They will provide everything you expect of them and more. These speakers, like any Klipsch Heritage loudspeaker, will give you a sound stage like you have never heard. Close you eyes and you'll feel Eric Clapton is right in front of you. If Clapton isn't your cup of tea, I challenge you to put any good recording on, sit back and be amazed.

Weakness:

They were not intended for abuse and don't do well in that arena. If they will be subjected to rough treatment, look for the industrial versions such as LaScala or Heresy. There might be industrial Cornwall's available but I've never seen them. No this isn't a real weakness but it's the only "weakness" I've encountered.

I bought this pair of Cornwall's to use as a rear channel for a home theater I'm building. They are currently running through a Technics Micro Series system in the garage. They will be moved to their new home in the basement in October if everything goes according to plan.

Klipsch Cornwalls are wonderful speakers and, had they been mated to a better system when I bought them, I would have certainly been willing to pay more. With a good system, they shine! Don't get me wrong, they still shine with a poor system but any flaws will certainly be made obvious except to those listeners that don't really care.

Customer Service

i've never needed customer service.

In addition to my Cornwalls, I have a pair of 1988 Klipsch Klipschorns, a pair of 1986 Klipsch LaScala's and a pair of Klipsch KG-2's. With the exception of a pair of Klipschorns I bought new in 1982, all of my Klipsch speakers have been purchased used. The '88 Klipschorns (KBWO) were purchased in 2003. They were advertised for $1000, bought for $800 and they're in mint condition.

The LaScala's were purchased off of eBay for $805 although the seller was forced to refund $300 of the purchase price due mis-representation. They had been represented as the nicest LaScala's available anywhere but they looked as if they had been painted in the Sahara Desert during a sandstorm. They are what might be referred to as "ten footers." They look great from 10 feet but only fair up close. The KG-2's were purchased 1986 from a fellow Air Force enlisted guy for
$25 when he left the service. He sold everything he had. I've done much better buying localy although you have to be patient. If you're in a hurry, eBay is a good way to go although you will most likely pay more and have shipping charges added on top. However you buy them, you won't be disappointed.

Strength:

The high end for sure! Amazing speakers built in 1979!

Weakness:

Possibly the bass....but I have them hooked up to a Home Theater recvier and wanted to potect the woofer...so I don't even know if I'm even really driving them.

I purchased a set of Cornwall I's from EBAY to replace the Klipsch Quartets that I realized sounded terrible after hearing my brother's Klispch Fortes with exactly the same receiver. So, really being in the market for a set of Fortes, but finding a pair of Conrwalls locally, I jumped at the chance. Now, I had never listened to a pair, and I purchased them from the seller without listening first. Got them home, hooked them up and ...ok WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry...what I meant to say was. OMG WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I will die with these, I promise you that.

These are truly amazing speakers. I heard stuff in music that I never heard before. There was more than one occasion that I began to second guess if the song playing on my Serius satelite radio was the same version as the one I was famliar with. The reproduction of vocals is so real that its unreal; when compared to every prior listening experience. You can hear the emotion in singer's voices. I'm really not trying to overstate this point, but if you love listening to singers, beit Pink Floyd, CSN&Y, Simon and Garfunkel, the Doors, Feetwood Mac, you must own these speakers. Ok I won't keep goin on about this. But the soundstaging is wonderful, they give a 3-D depth that I previosuly never knew was a consideration before I bought these Cornwalls.

They are very forgiving in placement also. I've heard lots of talk about Klipshorns and how critical the room and placement are to those speakers. You dont have to worry about this with Cornwalls.

Overall, you can make a SERIOUS mistake by buying a speaker for 2x, 3x, 5x the price without seriously listening to Cornwalls.

Strength:

I have experimented over the years with many speaker types and electronics. I continue of experiment. But the Cornwalls (These are II built in 1985) just capture the essential rightness of the music with much of the color and dynamics that most speakers don't even try for. The bass is clear and accurate and the horns for mid and high seem to open up the center of the music with lovely detail.

I am using a Manly Shrimp preamp and an AVA (Van Alstine) rebuilt Dynaco ST70 and the AH! Tjoeb 4000 CD player (with up sampler option). Thats it, very simple. I may try a modern amp but the ST70 seems to mate well in the midrange with these speakers.

Did I mention dynamics. If you like to dance these things can really get your whole household stomping because they play very loud. Out here in the country it is nice to know that loud clear ass shaking sound is just couble of degrees of the volume control away. The other night I put on Pink Martini and my wife and i danced in the dark for the whole CD. Not loud just gentle volume here but that wonderful wholness of musc was there with us.

Amazing, amazing speakers.

Purchased the pair in birch on eBay for $900.00 from a Klipsch guy in Bellsqueeze, ME.

Weakness:

None really except they are large. These are works of art with a deep history that comes from years of manufacture. They give you something great in music tthat few other speakers, regardless of price.

Beautiful dynamic musical speakers.

Strength:

EFFICENCY, BASS, MIDDS AND WHO CAN BEAT HORN DRIVEN TWEETERS.

Weakness:

YOU CANT FIND POWERED SUBS THAT ARE THE RIGHT SIZE TO FIT UNDER THEM. THE SPEAKERS ARE TOO WIDE. I GUESS THAT WOULD BE OVER KILL ANYHOW. OVER KILL, YESSSSSS, I GUESS ILL HAVE TO MAKE THEM.

I HAVE BEEN A KLIPSCH SPEAKER FAN FOR YEARS AND OWNED MY FIRST SET IN 1985. IT WAS A TOSS-UP BETWEEN A PAIR OF JBL L-100 AND A PAIR OF KLIPSCH FORTEE'S. THE KLIPSCH WON OUT. I NOW RUN FOUR CORNWALL II SPEAKERS FRONT AQND BACK. BOUGHT 4 FOR 2200 DOLLARS IN MINT CONDITION. I HAVE THOUGHT OF "UP-GRADING" TO LASCALA'S BUT DONT KNOW IF THERE WOULD BE A REAL IMPROVMENT IN SOUND OVER THESE AMAZING SPEAKERS. THE BASS RESPONSE IS INCREDABLE AND THEY TAKE EVERYTHING MY TWO ARAGON 8008BB AMPS THROW AT THEM. THESE ARE MIGHTY MIGHT AMPS AND CONTROLL THESE SPEAKERS WONDERFULLY. I BOUGHT USED 17 YEAR OLD CORNWALLS OVER MY INITIAL DESIRE TO PURCHASE 4 RF-7 SERIES SPEAKERS. THIS IS A DECISION I DO NOT REGRET. NEW VERSES 17 YEAR OLD SPEAKERS. YOU WOULD THINK THE DECISION WOULD BE A NO BRAINER FOR THE NEW PRODUCT. DONT GET ME WRONG, RF-7 SPEAKERS ARE AN AMAZING PRODUCT, BUT THESE ARE ONE OF PAUL KLIPSCH'S ORIGIONAL PRODUCTS USING THE SAME LEGENDARY PARTS THAT ADORN THE FABLED K-HORNS. ALL I KNOW IS THAT WHEN I PUT THE JUICE TO THEM, PEOPLES JAWS HIT THE GROUND. I PERSONALY THINK THAT IT WOULD COST THOUSANDS MORE TO GET BETTER SOUND THAN WHAT I AM GETTING RIGHT NOW. THIS IS FOR ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES A BANG FOR THE BUCK SYSTEM... THAT CANT BE TOUCHED. AND ITS GOOD FOR ALL LISTENING STYLES. IF YOU CAN FIND THEM, BUY THEM. MAKE ROOM. KNOCK OUT A WALL, BUY A NEW HOUSE JUST FOR THEM, GLUE THEM TO A HARD HAT AND WEAR THEM LIKE HEAD PHONES. YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE. Bass tight , clear and natural, Horns make sax and other hors be there. I now get goose bumps listening.

Weakness:

Size but worth the placement effort

Bought without trying. Got home and wasn't sure they would work. Hooked them up to my Bryston 4B and could not stop listening. Jazz horns and bass incredible. Piano records now come alive. Incredible sound ! Now to fix the grille cloth and find a home for them in the room.

At a 1 or an 11 on the volume scale these speaker's kick butt! The only thing that could have been better is that he had a Phase Linear to go with them for $50.00 bucks!

Weakness:

none noticed or found in these better than sex!

I bought my cornwalls at a yard sale in lancaster county pa. The ad said a pair of klipsch speakers but no price. I went to the guy's house and he said that his wife said the speaker's were too big for him and he should sell them. I went downstairs and there were the klipsch cornwall cbr's...ser # 25u438@439 signed by B.Gibson inspector @ N.W.Bradford testor. They were $100.00 forthe PAIR.yipeee!

Strength:

At low listening levels, cornwalls provide excellent sound. LOTS OF BASS! Can crank them up loud without strain. Very transparent and accurate. Absolutely love them!

Weakness:

Space....They are large! Who cares!!!

I bought two new Cornwalls back in 1982 for 1600.00. After auditioning many speakers at twice the price only the KLIPSCHORN provided a overall more accurate sound that the Cornwall. The KLIPSHORN had a slightly better bass response. Of course the horns were twice the price of the cornwalls at the time, and required corner placement for the best sound. I can say that over the years I have enjoyed the cornwalls immensely. Some speakers will become annoying after a while through your listening sessions. But the Cornwalls will provide endless satisfaction. Cornwalls are very efficient and do not require high powered amps to run then. I have a Pass Lab Aleph 3 single stage amplifier that is only 30 watts per channel and is a great match for these speakers. I do like to use a subwoofer in my listening both Theater and Stereo. I have a Sunfire True Subwoofer.
