Strength:

Clarity on mids and highs, efficiency, power handling, real wood cabinets.

Weakness:

sub lows

In 1989 I traded my chevy truck and cash for my La Scalas (I figure I got them for approx.$1000pr.)There are very few speakers that can match what the La Scalas can do when it comes to power and clearity. I had them set up in a 20'X15' room with raised foundation old hardwood floors along with my Tannoys with each being driven with a dedicated power amp along with my custom-made sub-woofer(also w/dedicated power amp)that produces down to 10hz. This is as fine of a system my ears(and all my audiophile friends)have ever heard. We would frequently A/B the system between the La Scalas and the Tannoys(if you've never heard Tannoys you should)and half of the listeners prefered the La Scalas and half the Tannoys.I personally prefer the warmth and sweetness of sound from the Tannoys but the La Scalas can "crank" like no other.Mostly we listened to all at once. With the sub-woofer pounding out what the La Scalas and Tannoys are incapable of reproducing,it was an unbelievable listening experience. As far as speaker testing CD's I recomend Torcuato Mariano's "Paradise Station" or "Last Look" track # 6 on either CD.The rest of the tracks are awesome but those two tracks are amazing speaker testers. Also Chuck Loeb's "Balance" or "Simple Things" have amazing speaker tester tracks. Happy listening!GD P.S. Anyone that has "speaker tester" CD's that they recomend I would love to share info.I prefer fusion or Brazillian type jazz. Thanks

Strength:

Clarity, Power Handling, Imaging, Staging

Weakness:

Bass

After hearing these play at my local audio store, I knew I had to have them. They were just so clear and strong I knew that this was what I had been looking for. The solid wood design is attractive and adds to the overall visual impact of these monsters. The bass is not terrific on their own, but they do not claim to be able to do 45Hz or less, so it is what I expected. I paired each of them up with a Paradigm PS-1000 to provide the bass that they cannot produce and I am totally satisfied with the fantastic sound. A design that has survived all these years has to be doing something right!

I am certain I will have these for many years to come.
