Strength:
Clear, natural, three-dimensional sound.
Weakness:
They're small. Bass is clean but limited. In the store (I went to several), these speakers sounded more natural, especially in the highs, than anything else I heard. The most comparable speakers I compared to, in terms of size and price, were the Tannoy S1. The Tannoy had a bit deeper bass, but the Krix sounded more musical to me, for lack of a more audiophilic descriptor. The bass is clean, but not terribly deep, especially in my large, wooden-floored living area. I became much happier when I added a small, relatively cheap subwoofer. The most impressive thing about these speakers, to my ears, is the three-dimensionality of the sound. On quality recordings, you forget there are speakers present it all--it sounds like the band is in my living room. I am driving them with a Yamaha CD player/Technics turntable, Adcom pre-amp and Parasound HCA750 amplifier. Similar Products Used: Boston HD-5 bookshelf speakers (a little smaller and much cheaper) |

Had the opportunity to demo these speakers at a dealer in Houston. The dealer network for these speakers is small but expanding. Don't have a dealer in Louisiana, so gave them a listen while in Texas. These bookshelves in the jarrah wood finish are beautiful and if possible I recommend them being displayed on stands due to their cabinets. They will complement most any decor. Purchasing these speakers in the optional black ash would be a crime. I brought my collection of CD's and those of a female friend who came with me. My collection included the phantom menace soundtrack, jon fogerty, old van halen and Beck. Lady friend brought in Celine Dion and Ricky Martin (oh brother to both, however the duet between Dion and Pavorotti made the Equinox sing). The speakers were being driven by a Bryston set-up and at low listening levels the speakers sounded rather ordinary, however when the power was accellerated these little bookshelves sang. I was amazed at how much bass was produced from a 5 inch driver (although not deep, it wasn't muddy when challenged, but still limited). The highs were equally impressive. I kept imagining these speakers being accompanied by a sub in my living room. I've demo'd many bookshelves (paradigm mini-monitors, studio-20s, NHT, mirage, M&K, etc.) and these were tops. I plan on buying two pair. mains and rears with a Krix Centrix as the center channel. If you are looking for a bookshelf speaker, do not buy without demo'ing these if a dealer isn't too far away! |

Strength:
Clarity, detail Listened to many comparable speakers, Jamo, B&W, Mission then one dealer said come in and hear some B&W 601s next to the Krix hooked up to the system you want (I was buying a denon system he had at the best price). That did it for me. The B&W was very nice but no where near as natural. I did the trick of bring a pile of my own CDs into the shop, some like phantom of the opera (London production) had speaking segments that just amazed with the natural sound. B&W was great but not as clear, in fact the way my wife described it (and she's an ex opera singer) for orchestral B&W sounded like a great speaker, Krix sounded like no speaker. To me it was like being in the room rather than next door. |

Strength:
soundstage, detail, clarity, even bass reproduction
Weakness:
way too HQ to find cheap Picked up a pair from Whetstone Audio in Texas from Brian DiFrank without having auditioned a single Krix product. What information I could find on the scantly known Austrailian company was almost surreal. After recieving the Equinoxes delivered as promised and on time, I was only slightly impressed with their performance. After 10 months, I can now say that these may be the last pair of bookshelf speakers I will ever buy. Similar Products Used: NHT 1.5/Polk Audio bookshelves |

Strength:
Clarity, quickness, "pace"; fine resolution of detail; excellent imaging; very natural mid's and high's; outstanding reproduction of strings and plucked instruments; excellent timbre; respectable bass for small size; high quality construction.
Weakness:
May be voiced toward upper registers a bit too much for some listeners. I bought a pair of used Krix's for use in an office system as an experiment, following several highly complimentary reviews in various audio mags. Although the acoustics in my office are poor, I remain am very impressed after several full days of listening. This little speaker really dances!!
