Strength:

I've had these since 1999, and would not be without them. Replaced the panels 4 years ago. Superb clarity and imaging on all sorts of music, especially acoustic instruments - classical or jazz, but can and do play rock brilliantly too.

Weakness:

Especially hard on amplifiers - I have tried and parted with a Naim 250 (I had this at purchase - they didn't get on with each other), self built 300B SET x2 (great until you wanted some volume), NVA monobloc x4 (regularly blew power stages), Hypex NC400 x4 (not up to delivering the mid/treble transparency?). I've finally settled with a 100W/channel Pathos Logos amp which ticks every box apart from ultimate power delivery.

Strength:

Purchased new 1996...evolved into family entertainment system with digital surround sound...kids out of house...sound room is now strictly analog stereo...new screens...revisiting all my old vinyl...so happy I kept these while resisting urge to upgrade...amazed by how many people experiencing my current set up have never heard ESL technology at its stereo best...imaging and soundstage amazing...only weakness is size of that stage...people fight for that special chair in that very spot... Martin Logan Quest z with Audioquest Pikes Peak to Aragon 4004mkII to Mcintosh C47 via Kimber KCAG with Rega P25...no upgrades necessary 😎

Weakness:

as noted above

I have owned my Quests since 1994. After 23 years, still my favorites. Have added an iDepth sub-woofer, but for vocal, strings, pipe organ. Nothing sounds better. Also have a paradigm studio series, B & W , but nothing compares. Even bought a pair of used SL3's which are also amazing! I was involved with co- founder Gayle Sanders, and Larry Rock while producing a CD recording to demo these speakers when they were first introduced.

Strength:

Awesome soundstage and imaging

Weakness:

Power hungry-easily solved

If you LOVE music these are the speakers for you. The lushness & depth of field are just incredible. When auditioning speakers I had settled on either the Logan Sequels or Definitive Tech. BP-3000. I stumbled upon a great deal on some floor model Quests that I couldn''t pass. The determining factor between the two speakers was my taste of listening. As I stated before, I LOVE music. Have ever since I was a kid. If the persons that gave the low rating are more interested in movies I can see why they gave the rating they did. I don''t feel the Quests alone can deliver the punch needed for movie watching. Even though they are rated below 30hz, the just don''t have the punch when watching a scene such as the train derailment from The Fugitive. It does sound good, but needs a sub to give them that extra punch. Power is also a concern. They need lots. I have an Aragon 8000ST driving these bad boys and they eat it up. Long story short, if you like listening to tunes they can''t be beat (except maybe by the Logan Statements). If you want them for movies, get a good sub to go along with them.

Strength:

Clarity, soundstage, detail

Weakness:

Placement is finicky because they radiate bi-directionally and because of the nature of the technology. They're electrostats!

I reviewed this previously. Some are critical of the bass produced here. If that's true..CHANGE YOUR CABLES. They make a big difference in the bass. Tekline solid silver work beautifully for me. You also cannot cheat on other components. These spekers will ruthlessly show up inferior components.

Also, try adjusting placement. Since they radiate bi-directionally, it will affect bass as well as other frequencies.

This is one of the finest speakers in the world. Anyone who would rate them one or two stars is not an audiophile, and must not understand what they are doing.

Strength:

Transparency, soundstage great. Live feeling is handtouching...

Weakness:

Placement sometimes.

I bought these speakers after owning three years the SL3s. I tested the reQuest's in my listening room and found them greta at overall. The bass was great and midrange absolutely something else I had heard. The SL3s were great, but sometimes I found the bass a little bit lack. But the integral feeling of great Live feeling is the most important. You know that the bass is easy to get out of the speakers, but it's the midrange that makes some speakers sound so great that your mind is somewhere else...in a different atmosphere. SL3s was the first speaker that get me feel something very different. Something that makes the life easier.

Last september I bought these Quest's without hearing them in my listening room. Well, the result was better I was expected. Of course the old Logans was sounding in my mind couple of days because I owned them so long time. I think that especially Jazz sounds better now than it sounded with the reQuest's. Funny thing, but the sound is little bit darker and the bass is lower than the new reQuest's. I like it because the Jazz sounds amazing. New reQuest's were easier to place but that's only a minor thing. Now my system lives.

Powerful amplifier is needed if you want to get the best result. Speaking of the bad impedance in Logans, I don't find it very bad. Of course they sound in someway with some High End killer Japan amplifier. But nobody with a little bit sense don't buy that kind of amp to drive this kind of speaker. But who am I to judge other peoples choices.

My other system is:

PS-Audio Lambda cd-transport
PS-Audio Ultralink D/A-converter
Threshold T2 preamplifier
Threshold T400 poweramplifier
Cardas Hexlink 5C interconnects
Cardas Cross speakercables Biwired
Wadia AT/T digital cable

Here you see pictures of my system and also something else.

Strength:

Perfect balance for classical music as well as jazz
Listening to all kind of music is big fun - voices are very listening in a subtle - better than other speakers.

Weakness:

good only with spikes under
Best place of speaker not easy to determine - especially with spikes mounted underneath.

Up to now my best speaker I had so far - no need to give you all the attributes you may have read in other reviews and on the same time the upmost in size which is acceptable by my wife.

There may be better systems available but they are either bigger or by far more expensive - so this is my best choice.

If time allows speakers should be moved gradually around the listening room to find the best position. And: Position with an agle towards the best listening position (beware: speaker could fall if someone pushes from behind).

To gether with a very stable amp it is listening with pure joy.

Cables do make a big difference - you have to try (mine are MIT T2). Further tweaks: Special power cables with filter (I use Audioplan Cleancord S).

Strength:

Lifelike sense of energy, realism. Very pure reproduction.

Weakness:

NONE!!!!!!!

My experience is that you will have to evaluate every little item in the audio/sound chain to be able to get the most out of the speakers and sense truly great musical experiences. Overall, the logans give you a real sense of air and realism. You can get totally immersed in the music. Nothing comes close. Strings are so real you think the artist is right there in front of you. I could go on all night but I think you all get the impression......
