These are wonderful speakers. Very powerful bass, detailed highs, and warm med frequencies. I drive them via Adcom 5500 amp and Adcom 565 preamp, and my living room never sounded better.
Although they lack a little the transparency of my previous Magnepan SMGa speakers while playing Basia or Jennifer Warnes, they more than make up on dynamic classical, like Mozarts Symphony 25 or Rachmaninoff's Piano concerto 4, not to mention Midnight Oil or Bob Marley, where the powerful bass makes it feel like at a live concert.

Wonderful choice of speakers in the $750-1000 per component class.

I've had the Mirage 1295is for almost a year. I bought them along with a pair of Mirage MBS-2 and a centerchannel speaker, Mirage MC-2.
I'm using my speaker setup for music and surround playback. The rest of the system consist of; EAD TheaterMaster Encore preamplifier, Adcom GFA-7000 power amplifier, Sony DVP-S715 DVD-player, Hitachi VT-S890E Super VHS video.

The 1295is works very good with almost all sorts of music or movie soundtrack.
They have a very warm and detailed character. Guitars, strings horns and other acoustic instruments sound very good, it's also very fun to listen which is important.

Inside 1295 there is a powered sub woofer. Rated at 100 Watt and peak power at 400 Watt. The bass is good, maybe it's a bit to much for music but you can turn it down. On the back panel there is two knobs for adjusting level and baseq.

I have them on Sonic Designs damping feet. And they improve the sound further.
You have to place them half a meter or more from the back wall, they are bipolar
and like all bipoles radiate from the front and the back. Thus the holographic sound stage.

When watching a DVD movie and the disc have a 5.1 soundtrack the experience is nothing short of spectacular! But don't place them to narrow, my speakers are about two meters apart and that works very well both on music and movie soundtracks.

There is one thing to improve on and that's the tweeter. Maybe the slight coarseness can dissaper. It's there but you have to listen hard to find it.

They don't make this one anymore so you have to buy the OM-6 or OM-8, which are great
speakers aswell.

I listened to this M-1295is speaker for few hours at local dealer. I must say that this speaker isn't so bright and clear sounding than older M-series and new OM-series. Bass was powerfull but it became muddy when I played organ music (Telarc Organ Blaster track 11 for example). In my opinion these speakers are good in home-cinema but not for music.

I just recently bought a pair of these bipolar speakers, having settled on them over the Definitive Technologies BP-10. While it was the BP-10's which introduced me to the holographic imaging capailities of well engineered bipolar technology, it was the Mirages which produced the more accurate and warm tonal qualities in the mid-high ranges. Also, while the Definitives exhibited amazing bass responce for an unpowered two-way speaker, the Mirage's bipolar 100W RMS/400W Peak 8" woofers (that is to say, two woofers per speaker) reveal unparalled low/mid-bass respoce down to a true 20Hz; this frees the 5 1/4" up from bass duties, which helps to create a much cleaner midrange feel than the BP-2002, -- the more expensive powered sub Definitive. Ian Paisley and his Mirage R&D team pioneered the original bipolar technology, and this shows through in the way a properly placed set of their speakers will give pin-head accurate imaging while at the same time opening an amazingly wide and rich soundstage. Their musicality and accuracy makes them excellent music speakers, and their built in subs give them the thundering bass which home theatre now calls for. In short, its all right here in these modest looking speakers.
For about US$1450 (CAN$2000), I added them to my Denon 360 CD player and Sony STR-AV920 amp; the Sony gives me enough power to push these slightly demanding speakers, although I prefered the NAD 314 for clarity. The downside to these speakers is that while you don't need a really fancy amplifier, you'd better get good cable and a great CD player because these speakers are too accurate for their own good, and will sound out every flaw in your player and every piece of interference in your cable. If you've got the dough for these speakers, make sure your system matches them.
I promised myself originally that I would buy only bipolar speakers, now I'll buy only Mirage.
