Accuracy and soundstage. Price was exceptional (under 300 US)

Treble is not as bright as it could be (reminds me of British speakers). Bass is weak but this is really a scaled-up sized bookshelf speaker.

The mirage speakers are very clear and clean sounding. They are not a "bright" speaker and need a small treble boost to sound similar to my other speakers (Polk Audio 10B). The bass is not adequate but what would you inspect from a ported 6" woofer? I bought them because they sound clean, have an excellent soundstage, and I have a subwoofer that can handle the 30-120 range. They are vastly superior to the highly regarded frx-3 in listening tests with any type of music.

Can be awkward to place correctly

Only had these for a week but I am pretty happy with them. Been trying to get a good quality system to compliment the new toshiba 40H80 HDTV that I talked the wife into letting me get(she loves it too!) My surround receiver is a $100.00 P.O.S. JVC and these speakers still sound good! I have not upgraded my speaker wire yet and also plan to Bi-wire then.My previous speakers were/are Koss bookshelves(surrounds for awhile) that all my less critical friends said "these sound OK to me ,why new ones?" Not a question now!
Before I start going any further about these, I need to say that the Linn and Vandersteen speakers were INCREDIBLE! in sound and although priced right for what ya get.. too much for me to fanagle with the wife! The other brands while fine,didn't have the sound I was looking for.A nice clean high without being as bright as the B&W's that I thought I was definetly going to buy (303s)Tannoys seemed good also and was a close one..but their finish was a little disapointing to me.My friend got some Paradigms that I turned him on to at one of my many auditions(more time than money!)but after rocking out at his house ,didn't have quite the oomph, at least not withou a sub..And that is yet more money down the road for me.Solution now was to get all I could for the buck.I feel I made a good choice, music sounds so much better now! Lots of detail and precision for a speaker of this size and price, I didn't think I could live without the $1500.00 Linn Ninkas I listened to but Budget was not even close to being there.I've been careful about break in period so haven't yet seen their limits.Also to hear sound this good before getting the new receiver I need...makes me expect the sound to get even better! I will rate based on what I've heard and for value(which could have been less money online) I don't feel ripped off but not a bargain either,oh well... some one has to keep the A/V stores in business! Listen for yourself.Grain of salt and all that. It comes down to your preference but education on good sound is important.I still really don't see how some folks spend so much at the chain stores without really checking anything else out.My 2 cents!

Not much.
Lots of power for the price.

Poor performance when it comes to percussions.
Poor imaging.
Not good with all types of music.

I wasn't too thrilled with the Mirage speakers, they seemed very dry compared to the other speakers that I've tried within the same price range. Very poor on imaging and the midrange, bass lacked the extra oomph when it needed it. Of the ones I've tried this is not the worst but it certainly wasn't worth spending $475(USD) or $700(CDN) on it.
