I bought the OM-10''s 1.5 years ago as a replacement for my Monitor Audios which were prematurely "decommissioned" by my daughter and her ball. Why the omnipolars you would ask since the 10''s are quite different from the standard speakers. Well I wanted something different this time having tried Tannoys, MA''s and Missions. These speakers are what I would describe as a paradox: they''re not really great sounding as they sounded quite harsh straight from the box. They have since mellowed down in use with either of my Plinius or Bryston amplifiers but they still sound a bit bright with certain recordings. They''re very finicky with placements and up to now I still can''t seem to find the perfect spot for them (!?). They''re not the best in terms of critical listening as you probably wouldn''t find pin-point imaging from these - I didn''t. The 10''s seem to sound better at higher volumes. Lastly, they''re a bit lean, again, with certian cuts. Funny thing is why do I like them? Or why do a lot of people like them? Well for one they''re very versatile. You can use them for HT and pure audio. I for one just plug in the speaker wire for the medium I prefer, be it an amp or receiver. Moreoever, at the right recording and source, they CAN sound fantastic. Build quality is excellent for the price and appears very robust. Lastly, - the looks!. I particularly like the sock finish, the piano lacquer top, the binding posts - kind of classy looking. All in all I guess if you can make do with the limitations and if you''re not way into critical listening then this could be for you. One solution I had for the slight brightness I experience, at times, is to use 2 separate amplification for the treble and bass and make the respective adjustments to both accordingly. i know - it doesn''t sound audiophile-like but what the heck. It does sound better - at times; takes out the brightness and provides me with all the bass I want :-) Overall a good product - for the price. |

Strength:
"Omnipolar" sound, creating a more natural presence in the room compared to standard monitors. Amazing sound for the dollar.
Weakness:
Bass is a little thin. Unless you have an absolutely unlimited budget for music, the OM-10 is for you. Since I have a wife who doesn't understand paying more than $200 for a pair of speakers, this was a good compromise. I am obviously partial to the bipolar sound for creating a more natural soundstage for acoustic music. I am going to make a subwoofer to hit the lows for home theater, but for pure music itself it gets all the lows that you need. |

LOTS OF BANG FOR THE BUCK! WONDERFUL DETAIL. PLENTY OF LOW END.
Weakness:
NONE OK, I'LL ADMIT IT, I WAS LOOKING TO PURCHASE A PAIR OF THE MONITOR SILVER 5'S OR EVEN THE SILVER 7'S. I HAD READ ALL OF THE REVIEWS AND TALKED TO TOO MANY PEOPLE ABOUT "SOUNDSTAGE", "IMAGING", "BUILD QUALITY" ETC. ETC. Similar Products Used: NHT SUPER ZEROS + NHT SW2P POWERED SUB |

bit thin on bass I really fell in love with Mirage after being in college and stumbling on a small bookshelf speaker that outperformed most large floorstanding speakers. I now have the OM-10's with OM-R2 rears and an older mirage center speaker. These OM-10's really are tremendous speakers and they are being closed out so get them ASAP. I am new at good speakers. I searched the Net for what appeared to be good brands. The first thing I found was that Bose was not too popular and not worth the money. I then came up with a list of brands to go listen to. I went to several stores and listened to Boston Acoustics, Klipsch and Mirage (plus a few others). To me, the OM10's were superior in sound and seemed to fill the room with the sound, not leaving "dead areas". So, I bought them. The price was very affordable for the pair ($700)and I'm happy. |

Strength:
they sound kick ass
Weakness:
none I went on line to buy these the going rate was 600.00. Went to tweeter got demos. Got home had pushed in tweeter. Call them back and gave me new pair. So these speakers cost me 502 OUT THE DOOR. I have these powered by a sony da555es and I can't find a damn thing wrong. If living in IL go to tweeter they got 3 pairs left. NOTHING FOR the MONEY is going to be a better buy. Nothing but praise for these speakers. The rears are kilpsch and I think the rear fill sounds kick ass with these puppies. P.S. selling a hk amp. e-mail at midospike@yahoo.com Similar Products Used: epiture, klipsch, paragidm |

Strength:
These speakers offer a large soundstage with sweet harmonious splender that will have musical tones dancing throughout the listening room. I have an odd shaped listening area but this presents no problem for the Om-10's.
Weakness:
None for me. (But I've heard others complain about a lack of low bass.) The so called missing lows will be filled in if you have a sub. It seems like that it is necessary to have a sub-woofer anyway to fully enjoy all of the sounds that you could possibly hear in a home theater set-up. I took a painstaking 6 month search for the best speakers that I could find for the least amount of money. When I listened to the Om-10's with a fresh copy of one of my burned jazz cd's, I knew that my search for speakers was over. I was so impressed with these speakers that I took them home with me. The soundstage of these babies were awesome. I thought You Move Me by Cassandra Wilson was absolutely outstanding. My experience was so moving until I felt like I was at a concert with Cassandra singing directly to me. I was deeply moved and quite impressed with the melodic tones that just kept swirling around the listening room. There was no sub-woofer turned on while I was auditioning the speakers but yet the bass was present and warm enough for me. (Although some people like it hot!) I thought it was suitable enough for my needs. Similar Products Used: Pioneer,B&W 602-603-604, Klipsch, Bose, Kenwood, Sony & Def Tech |
