I was lucky enough to get the 704's for about 320ea. When purchasing these 3-way, 250w towers I compared them to some similarly priced ($700-900) models(Infinity, DCM, NHT, Acoustic Research, MB Quartz, others) The Missions, being British, are a little bright in the top end, not at all harsh however, but their most noticable feature is the extended bass reponse. Wow, these things boom. In the showroom I could see that you most likely needed sub-woofers with most of the brands, even for music(except DCM, but the MB Quartz bass reponse was pathetic, not only that, the whole sound spectrum was boo) The mid-range and tweeter on the Infinity's were impressive, brighter than the 704's,though you would need a sub-woofer. The Infinity's in direct contrast to the Missions had a fuller more dynamic mid-range, but are too bright on top for my taste. The Missions had fuller sound as a whole. Listening to the Missions on their own you would hardly realize the mid-range loss, and The full spectrum is beautiful. One must take care however to adjust their bass level accordingly; the extended bass response can be innaccurate at high bass levels. Adjusted correctly the bass isn't booming, is almost always accurate, and sounds great. They're also a great home theater choice. If I had to do it all over again I would have done more homework, and listened to way more speakers, just to be sure, but for now I am very happy with the 704's. |

Strength:
Bass, Detailed deep bass, Thats all.
Weakness:
Lifeless tweeter, soft muddy midrange, hallow boxy sound, port hole noise on serious bass notes at high volume. This is not a bad speaker, it has some good sides like the bass! This would be great for Techno. Similar Products Used: A wet noodle. |

Strength:
Excellent bass extension, isolated midrange is accurate
Weakness:
Female vocals at high volumes I bought the Mission704 as part of an HT package, it took them a week to blossomed. They reproduces musical instruments better them most pricey speakers, specially at normal listening levels. Audition them if you can. These babies have no weaknesses 2 days ago I have swapped my sub for a pair of Mission 704's and I am very glad I did. I never need that sub again. Off cours they cant get as low as say an 16 Hz. 12 inch sub, but the 35 Hz. bass is very tight even at very high volumes, and because you have in each speaker one 8 inch bass woofer the bass is much better spread into the room. When having a sub there are always a few hot spots as I know from earlier experiences and that can be very annoying. There is also a lot more then bass. The midrange is superb, very clear and the same I can say about the highs. This a perfect speaker for DANCE and TRANCE music.
