Quality construction, rich viberant sound, all around great performer

The clearity and all around performance are wonderful in this loud-speaker set up, the highs are crisp and the mids are solid, the bass could be a slight touch more powerful, but all in all it is very sufficient. Im using them with a Marantz SR5200 reciever/amplifier, and their performance is very, very good. The price for these loud-speakers is very reasonable considering the performance they produce. Fit and finish of the units is also excellent.

Thier low price can fool people to think they ment to be
driven by junk electronics.

These speakers MUST be driven by High End electronics,
otherwise their bass will be lacking and their tweeters
will sound harsh.
The only way to enjoy these speakers are to drive them
with separates. I've tried the Yamaha DSP1 and Denon
AVR 3300, both sounded just OK with the 774, I will
not recommend the 774 for people with those receivers.
I think that these speakers should have been priced
much higher (2-3k), in their current price people
like the reviewer below are trying to mate them with
their junk electronics and don't understand how does
a cheap PSB speaker sounds better.
Overall, Superb speakers!!!

Good Look. Tight bass.

Too bright.

Local store had those on clearance for $600, down from
$1,200 MSRP. Thought it would be a good deal considering
many positive reviews here. It sure looked nice with the
cherry skin.

When I get those connected to my Yamaha R-V503 receiver at
home, the first thing I noticed is that higher end is
very bright. The sibilance makes my ears bleed. Even when
I turned the treble control almost all the way down,
still it is too bright for me. The "detail" level is way
too much for my taste. Bass is there and tight though,
imaging is also good. After a week I gave up trying to
like it and returned the pair to the store.

I thought that may have much to do with my low-fi Dolby
Prologic receiver, althought the 774 hooked up to store's
Denon receiver is also bright, but my recently purchased
PSB Image 2B sounds perfectly with the Yamaha, showing
a bit brightness only in some programs. So the Yamaha can't
be at fault all by its own.

The 774 may sound ok with some very high end equipment or
tube amps, but for the $1,200 asked price comparing to PSB's
$369, I think it is way over-priced.

Needs a good amp,needs a sub for
the low end.

If you like "BRIGHT" sound, these
should be your reference speakers.
The bass (50hz and below) is a little
weak, so subwoofer is recommended
for optimal performance.

clear sound

I initially went with Definitive pro Tower 400's but had acoustic problems in my room. Caused much discomfort. Brought an audiofile friend over to listen to the 774s and he raved about their imaging.

I have them combined with 771s for rears and the 77c1 for center which has a much cleaner vocal tone than other centers I tried. I also picked up an older Mission sub as a floor model to help fill a little more bass for dvd sound. I see United Audio is selling a good pkg price of all the above. They put the Mission surrounds in the pkg but the 771s go for the same price and hopefully can be sub'ed.

Outstanding imaging, speed, detail and spectral balance. Beautiful rosewood veneer and attractive cabinetry.

Light in the loafers on the bass. But what's there is astonishly articulate and distortion free. Tweeters are a little low...but easily cured by the excellent Lovan Jazz 600 stands.

Just a quick note. I'm now bi-amping my 774's using four of five channels on an Outlaw 750 amp. Wow! Wire is still, MIT T-4 in two separate runs per speaker.

I've just recently gotten my mitts on Adire Audio's Rava subwoofer. It's the pre-assembled version of the Shiva Mk. II woofer in a nicely finished sealed, oak veneer enclosure with a specially modified 250 watt amp driving it.

This is the first sub that I've heard that has the speed and articulation to keep up and blend naturally with the 774s lean and fast bottom end. Best of all, it's $400 plus shipping from Adire Audio in Seattle. It puts the Mission 70as sub I originally purchased with the 774's to absolute shame. Check it out at www.adireaudio.com.

Great detail and imaging! Beautiful cabinet.

Honestly I was very dissapointed with the 774s out of the box. I had replaced my Infinty RS4s and had expected to hear a difference and boy did I. They were bright and very harsh. I was using the the Denon 3300 as my reciever. But after several weeks to break them in I grew to love them. I hooked up my RS4s again to see if I could here a difference and again there was a big difference. The Missions sound much much better. These speakers must be broke in for a month or so to realize there potential. Of course you need to match them with a good sub. They were no designed to be a bass speaker. I have them matched with a Velodyne 120 and I could'nt be more pleased. I listen to mostly Jazz and Gospel music. They are not bad for HT either. I paid 600 for them over the net. Even at there MSRP of 1200 they are a great speaker.

I upgraded from the Mission 773e's. This line of speakres sound so clean, clear and detailed, I just couldnt justify myself spending more. I am tempted to buy some Taylor Acoustics. Anyway, the speakers are gorgeous in the Cherry finish, and i have them elevated 5 inches on stands, and slightly tilted back. They are Biwired with MIT T2. Strengths are Clarity, Detail, awesome looks and price.

Not really a weakness to be found, especially for 600 bucks.

They are just a steal for 600 bucks. They are definitely high quality stuff. not too bad to move around,, due to the lack of extreme weight. :-)..only thing is that you shouldnt have bright equipment, it will give you a headache.

Just got these last week and have been thoroughly impressed with the sound. I upgraded my bookshelf old model JBL's to them. I am very impressed with the detail and clarity of these speakers. I have also been suprised by their Bass response. I look forward to years of listening pleasure with them

Need a good sub to provide the lower end.

Just received my Mission package purchased through hifiguy at ebay. I would highly recommend him if you want Mission speakers. Will discount big time.
As far as the speaker goes I will try not to echo too much of what already has been said except to concur that it does need help on the lower end, even for jazz & classical. Don't let that stop you from getting this excellent speaker though. Many stand alone speakers may sound better (if you like colored sound) alone, but coupled with a good sub these really are tasty. I bought a ACI Titan (also highly recommended) that integrated very well with these. Driving them with a NewCastle receiver right now and plan on upgrading to a Monarchy amp or two in the near future. Anaylysis Plus Cables, DH Labs interconnects and

Buy this speaker if you:
1. Like uncolored music. Instruments/vocals sound real..
2. Love a good deal.
3. Need something for both HT and music (not in that order)
4. Need something with high WAF (wife acceptance factor)

Dont' Buy these if:
1. You want to play rap music.
2. You like to crank the bass, treble and use your speakers to sit your beer on, or if you have friends who occassionally puke in your garbage can.
3. Have a larger audio budget than the GDP of the average third world country.
