Strength:
Open airy sound, clear mid-range and good dynamics in the upper mid-range. Small size is amazing, I couldn't beleive their size and the sound from these speakers.
Weakness:
Tweeters are very fragile when grills are removed. Have had to replace a tweeter due to damage that occurred when grill was off. But this can be avoided and isn't a reflection of the quality or sound of these speakers. I first purchased these speakers when looking for a high quality, great sounding, and small speaker for a living room based theater in our new home. I had been using B&W DM600 series for Front and rear in my old house, but the design of the room required something smaller. At first I was hesitant due to their size, but after my first audition was amazed at how airy and open they sounded. They obviously don’t do lower mid-range, or bass as well as the B&W’s, but IMHO they have a better sound on Music and DVD movies. Most reviewers in the past review these in conjunction with the Monitor Audio subwoofer; I am using a Velodyne Mini-Vee instead and the sound is amazingly matched.
Customer Service Had to call Monitor's US distributor to get replacement grills and tweeter. First time I called I was told they would send me an invoice to be paid and then would ship me replacement parts. They never sent invoice. Several weeks later I called again and had all my parts in two weeks. It is my guess that the U.S. (North American) distributor Krex international, is just a small outfit and my experience was not customary to what others can expect. Overall I got what I needed and am happy. Similar Products Used: Bose AM-7, B&W SM301, Totem compact speakers? |
