Strength:
great highs, and mids. Suprising bass.
Weakness:
wish it cud go a little deeper i bought this last month and was suprised to hear how good they sounded right off the box. I have them as my rear speakers with psb bronze as the main. I think it really doesnt do much justice to its capabilities. Maybe i'll use it with another system...whenever i have that in the future! Similar Products Used: infinity, jbl |

Strength:
lovely finish, good sound
Weakness:
cheap grille, paper speakers and foam surrounds Does the job with no effort, wonderful highs, but somewhat muddy mids, yet i like them for that quality because it makes the sound more mellow. don't let anyone touch your speakers because they fingerprint real bad. if you want to take real advantage pair these up with a sub. i use these speakers with a Klipsch SW12 and have my reciever send anything above 100hz to the NHTs and my sub's low pass crossover is set at 85hz, the little space in between is good not to have because this is where all the boominess of bass resides. Subwoofer needed for lowest octave-and-a-half. I've had the SuperOne's for a little over 2 years now and they're just fantastic. This is hands-down the best speaker in terms of price/performance. The only other speaker I've listened to that comes close is the Paradigm Mini-Monitor. The NHT's are a little smoother on the top end to my ears so that's why I give them the edge. Everything played through the SuperOnes sounds incredible, these are true, entry-level, Audiophile-Quality speakers. The only complaint, and it is a very minor one, is their lack of bass below around 55-60Hz. If you listen to music with a lot of information below that you will need to add a sub. At present I have them teamed up with a Velodyne CT-120 Sub and they blend beautifully. They're X-Over at 80Hz and the blend in my room is seemless. Others may have written that they were concerned about the SuperOne's low efficiency but trust me, it's not that big a deal. My Sony ES receiver rated at 100W supplies them with ample enough output without any clipping. The best thing about the SuperOnes is how they faithfully reproduce all sources. There's no sugar-coating here, everything is true to the quality of the recording. If the record wasn't mixed well or was over-produced, i.e. Oasis' Be Here Now, then that's exactly how it will sound. If a recording such as a bootleg was of poor quality it will definitely sound that way through these speakers. The opposite is true as well. Recordings that were recorded well such as Eric Clapton Unplugged will sound INCREDIBLE. There's no need to use DSP because these speakers bring out the natural sound of the studio or space the recording was made. I've been hearing things that I've never heard in recordings that I am very familiar with and I attribute it to these speakers. I give the SuperOne's the highest recommendation and look forward to adding the SuperTwos and a SuperCenter to complete my home theatre. Strength:
fairly accurate for the price
Weakness:
treble abit hard when pushed I thought I was getting the SuperOnes for surround duty, but they sounded better than the Jamo sats I had! Accuracy in an inexpensive speaker is definitely a plus. I had no problems with low end- even with my sub (Velodyne 1200R) off, they put out ample bass. They were powered with an Acurus 200x3, so that may have had something to do with it. They now are serving their intended surround chores, replaced in front by Martin Logan SL-3s. However, any comparison there is unfair to the NHTs. They do a great job in the back, and I am comfortable running them at the large setting for surround. As main speakers, they did a great job given ample power. Similar Products Used: Jamo SAT 300 |

Well this is my second day listening to this speakers and I am still working on placement and set-up but let me tell you the sound is much improved than the previous set-up I had consisting of all Kenwood speakers (which to tell you the truth were not bad but no comparison to NHT's). My receiver is a piece of crap so the sound is not as good as it can be but still the improvement over my previous setup is like night and day. Anyway, Beatiful sounding high's and mid's. IMHO, they require a good sub because even though they can go lower than the NHT SuperZero's their bass is fairly weak. The best part of all this is that I got them with an NHT SuperCenter all for only $170 new. Who am I to complain? |

Strength:
Very clean reproduction, as close to 'live' as it gets. PRICE!
Weakness:
If you find any let me know. When I set up my DVD theatre in 97, about the only thing left to decide on was speakers since Sony ruled the early 5.1 market with the 7700 and ES receivers. I haunted every stereo shop in Houston trying to find bookshelves that wouldn't add their own interpretation to music. Similar Products Used: Various. |

Strength:
Very nice mid-range, beautiful finish, small size
Weakness:
no bass to speak of, not a great value I bought 3 of these recently to use as front and center channels along with a pair of NHT HDP-1 rear channel speakers I already had. They replaced a (sweet, but too large) BIC center channel speaker and a pair of Magnaplanar SMGas that were promoted to upstairs duty. I bought the SuperOnes mostly on reputation, but also after ~1/2 hour auditioning in a salon under less than ideal conditions. What attracted me most was their purported fine mid-range and imaging ability. Well I must say that they do live up to their great mid-range reputation (Celine Dion is RIGHT THERE when she sings "Treat Her Like A Lady"). However, I am a bit disappointed with their imaging. They seem incapable of the neat trick that the Paradigm Mini-Monitors I auditioned could pull off of simply disappearing and leaving you with an etched image of where the artist is "standing". The SuperOnes also have quite poor bass response. NHT claims that while you need a sub with SuperZeros you can get along without one with SuperOnes -- I don't think so, unless you care none at all about decent bass. Funny part is, the Paradigm Atoms I own are about the same size and have much better bass than the SuperOnes. They also cost about $100 a pair less, have a better high end and only a little worse mid-range than the SuperOnes. The SuperOnes are much nicer looking, though, and my wife likes that, so we'll keep them. If I had it to do over again, though, I'd get another set of Atoms or, better yet, a pair of Paradigm Mini-Monitors for the same money. I hate to say it, but that Canadian stuff is mostly better and cheaper, too. (But not as pretty.) Similar Products Used: Paradigm Atoms, Mission 732s |

Strength:
Realism, value, overall excellent performance, a natural performer that captures the essence of music
Weakness:
Cannot play low bass at high levels (nor would I expect it to) As a former loudspeaker designer, I must admire what was achived in this design, especially considering the reasonable price. A sonic gem that images well and doesn't offend; gets the critical midrange right and even has a respectable amount of low bass. The highs are pristine but have a slight rising response which can tend toward brightness on some material. Yet the soft dome lacks harshness often evident with some metal domes. A few minor modifications to the crossover network improved HF detail and flattened the rising response in the last octave making for an even better listening experience. I've tested both the standard and the "Xu" version. To my ears the "Xu" sounds even more open and natural with better imaging but gives up a little low end most likely due to the Xu's lower mass plastic cabinet. The plastic cabinet allows non-parallel panels to be easily formed. They certainly deserve and respond well to good electronics to drive them but, surprisingly, are not overly critical of lesser electronics. Strength:
Smooth efortless sound, Imaging
Weakness:
Need a good sub A very fine quality speaker at a reasonable price. Needs a good amplifier to drive it (100 W min.) and a sub to fill in below 80 Hz but from 80 Hz on up it sounds great. |
