The super zero is an excelent value if you pair them with NHT subwoofers correctly. Practically, it is very difficult to do it right. No bass is the problem.

These are amazing speakers. Precise imaging, accuracy, and clarity are their strong points. (Several reviews listed here reference their lack of bass. These speakers are not designed to reproduce bass, rather are intended to be used with an amplified subwoofer. No speakers this small will produce bass.)
The super zero / subwoofer combination reproduces some incredible music. They have a precision that beckons one to listen. Definitely take some time to audition them.

The Super Zero's are an admirable speaker for their size. The musical clarity and definition they provide is excellent. They render a very detailed stereo image. They are outstanding in their class. Coupled with a powered sub woofer, such as the Titan, by ACI, the full range system is tough to beat.

The Super-Zero is an outstanding value. All these people who slam it on lacking bass just don't get it... it's obviously not made to produce base or else it would have a bigger cone!
I put them in my home theater system with an Infrasub-18 and the result is incredible. Musically they are outstanding also. Highly recommended for a great all around system.

I now have owned my NHT system for over 1 year. I continue to visit audio/video stores to listen to new speakers and see the latest audio/video gear. I am happy to say that I am extremely satisfied with my investment. Here is my story.
I first saw mention of NHT Superzero speakers in Home Theater Magazine, which prompted me to lookup more information on them. I then read Corey Greenberg's article on January 1994 Stereophile (Vol 17 #1), and after a call to NHT for a local dealer, I found a very friendly high end audio store very close to me.

On my first visit with Steve at Acclamation Audio in Hurst, Texas (Dallas Fort Worth metroplex), now Classic Audio/Theater, I was sent home with a demo pair of Superzero's (Steve did not even asked me for a drivers licence). After listening to these little miracles at home, I was sold.

My Superzero's are in 42 inch stands (hand made by a friend), 2 feet from the rear wall, toed in to my living room sofa. The spacious soundstage, with precise location for instruments and performers is incredible. I have yet to audition a pair of speakers at a dealer where I have heard better imaging! The clarity and definition of this speaker is incredible for the price (I paid $199/pair). The Superzero has no low-end... zero. But I new this limitation and never intended to use them without a subwooker.

My initial choice for subwoofer was the SW2p, but after 3 weeks and a 20 minute conversation with NHT, I returned the SW2p and ordered an SW3p. The SW3p really made a drastic difference in the reproduction of those low frwquency sounds. Bass is solid, tight, fast, clean, and incredibly strong. The additional cost was definitely worth it. The SW2p was OK for music only, but could not handle the loud levels I like to hear when watching a movie.

For center channel I choose to use a VT1.1C, it looked better on top of my Pioneer 51 inch rear projection television and I thought I might upgrade the Superzero's at a later time. Well I can honestly say, I do not have any intentions of buying a Superone to replace the Superzero's.

The Superzero's love to be driven hard. I use an Onkyo 919, with the external Onkyo ED-901 AC-3 decoder. Since I had a small collection of Laserdiscs, I upgraded my Pioneer 504 laserdisc player to a DVL-700. After calibrating the audio levels with a copy of video essentials and a Radio Schack SLP meter, I am thrilled with the great sound I enjoy when viewing movies at home.

The combination of Superzero's and an SW3p subwoofer also provides for a very enjoyable audio listing experience. Here are some of my favorite albums, which I not only enjoy, but find to be good sources to bring out the best of my system (I use a Marantz CD-63 Mk 2 to play my CD's):

Rachelle Ferrell (great vocals, incredible voice range)
First Instrument
Blue Note CDP 7243 8 27820 2 5

David Arkenstone (excellent imaging and soundstage)
Spirit Wind
Windham Hill 01934-11215-2

Armik (woderful spanish acoustic guitar)
Rain Dancer
Baja/TSR Records BCD 524

Hiroshima (good dynamics)
Go
Epic EK 40679

Basia (excellent vocals)
Time & Tide
Epic EK 40767

Eugene Istomin (first RR recording not engineered by "Prof." Keith Johnson)
Beethoven Sonatas - Midnight, Waldstein, and Op. 110 in A-flat
Reference Recordings RR-69CD

Pomp & Pipes (incredible low end, recorded in Dallas Meyerson Hall)
Frederick Fennell, Dallas Wind Symphony, Paul Riedo - organ
Reference Recordings RR-58CD

I hope you enjoyed reading about my experience with my home audio/video system. I not only had fun shopping for my system (had to save for a long time), but am proud of all the wiring and installation I did (with my wife's help). I would love to read about your experience in putting your home system together, no matter what brands you have chosen. Hope to hear from you too.

Strength:

very crisp highs, nice finish (no ugly, fake wood-grain vinyl in this household), nice build quality, very affordable, rated very high on the spouse approval factor.

Weakness:

a sub is a must (but for speakers at this price point, what else would one expect?)

Very accurate, very crisp highs, I have had these little guys for several years and continue to marvel at their detail.

But... here's the however -- However, the SuperOne's are a better overall value. Anyone reading this is thinking about a NHT SuperZero purchase, my suggestion would be to pick up a pair of the SuperOnes instead. The SuperOne will offer a little more versatility than the SuperZero. With the SuperZero's you will need a sub. The SuperOne's go down to (+-) 57 Hz and have the ability to stand alone.

Strength:

Excellent for the price. Good imaging, better price.

Weakness:

A tad harsh at high volume.

These are the best speakers for under $500/pair. I listened to a $600 pair of Monitor 3's, and they were better, but also nearly double the cost.

Again, for $350, the SuperZero's are awesome. Just go listen for yourself. Compare it to any mass-market sh*t from "audio king" or "best buy" and the NHT will whoop them.

Course, the SuperZero's sound like mud compared to my parent's AE2 Series II speakers, but there's a $1500 price difference too. ;)

Four stars overall, because I really wish I had invested more and gotten something in the $1000 range that would sound much better.

Strength:

clarity, imaging well built, finish, and I really like the grilles.

Weakness:

no bass, but these speakers dont claim to be a bass producer, so I really dont hold that against these speakers

These little speakers a great, I think they are built great, they sound super, very clear and excellent imaging. They are shielded so they work great as a center if need be, they work great as a surround because of they're small size, they evan work great as mains with a sub!
Anybody complaing about the lack of bass did'nt research or talk to anybody, let alone listen to them. They never claim to produce much below 100hz. I have better sounding speakers but for the price( under 300 a pair) you'll have a hard time finding a cleaner and better sounding speaker!

Strength:

clarity, neutrality, speed, impact, dynamic slam, detail, well-balanced, amazingly solid construction, imaging, "disappearing act"

Weakness:

mid-bass is weak (as expected), height sensitive, can't match a cheap subwoofer to it

Well, it's hard to add more information without repeating what others have already said.

I'll simply add this:

This speaker is so good for its price, so dynamic, so quick, so detailed, that I had to hunt long and hard, and spend lots of money, to find a super woofer that was equally dynamic.

I ended up mating this very inexpensive speaker to a relatively expensive subwoofer, the $1400 M&K VX-700 (powered, dual 8"). Sub-woofers in a more modest price range, say the $600 bracket, simply couldn't keep up with the dynamic capabilities of the Super Zero on complex orchestral works, Metallic albums, and DVDs.

I'm going to give it a 5 for value, for obvious reasons, and a 5 overall. The only thing this speaker gives up to $1000 mini-monitors is bass, which can be easily cured with judicious subwoofer selection.

Strength:

Imaging, clarity. High-end sound. Aesthetics.

Weakness:

None.

Simply put, I LOVE these speakers!!! After searching everywhere for a reasonably "high-end" pair of
bookshelf's, and auditioning practically every favorably reviewed speaker between $200-$300, I finally threw down $165 dollars for these bad boys. Needless to say, I am VERY happy with my decision. The quality of sound that they spit out is incredible! I listen to everything musically and I've found that they play everything well.. with R&B music they are PERFECT! I haven't set them up in a home theater yet, eventually I'll move these to the rears and I'll swing three SuperOnes for the fronts. Currently the low-end is being handled with an Energy Exl:8, and eventually I'll buy another one of those. I KNOW this system is going to kick (in best Romey voice)A$$, and I am very pleased with both NHT and Energy. Highly Recommended!!
