Strength:

you can't believe its high end midrange/treble if you replace the original crossover capacitor etc.

Weakness:

The dull characteristic was removed after crossover modifying.

This is the 3rd time i post on superzero, why i so emphasis to this tiny speaker?mainly because its potential!

Few day ago i checked with the speaker inside,oh! the speakers magnet was so big! however its wired with the cheapest soldering wire(the wire in matt silver colour easier for soldering)in 22AWG(8-10 strands!)
certainly the parts of the crossover was also made of very
poor quality parts.
So,i replaced the wire and capacitors & the result was
unexpectable!

I suggested all of the owner to modify this speaker:-

1.change the wire with another good quality wire,i use TARA
LAB 8N multi strand(crossover to treble & bass speakers,
solid core 8N copper wire(from input to crossover) they are not costly,in H.K. HK$10-12 per feet.(total 5 ft)

2.only change the capacitors of the crossover with SOLEN
CAP from france(the new type) the superzero use 5uF &
10uF each per one,& no need to replace the resistor & coil
(costly about HKD210) you should place the capacitors on
the soldering parts of the circuit board because the place was not enough if you soldering on the front side of the circuit board.

Afterall, the superzero will actually sound like those
high end speakers! i never heard such silky midrange &
treble! the soundstage will become very very 3D!

The system:-
Yamaha CDX993 CD player
Unison Research Simply 2 Amp.
Yamaha YST-SW45 sub(copper spike)
Kimber silverstrek interconnect
Kimber double 4TC & OEM 7N Pcocc speakers cable(mixed
together)
3 x isoclean electricity noise filter(in series)
Enacom speaker wire compensator
All couple with gemstones pyramid shaped spike
Diff.kinds of gemstones place on the top of the speakers

Strength:

Price, size, quality build, cosmetics, accurate imaging

Weakness:

Need subwoofer (per its design)

These are great little speakers when used with a decent subwoofer. If you use them without a sub you'll be saying "where's the bass?" The cabinet quality is very good, and the piano black finish of mine is well done. They do seem to do better on speaker stands as far as imaging and sound repro go. I'm using these in a home theater system, with (originally) three SuperZeros in the front (A/D/S in the back). As a center channel speaker they don't do too well. I replaced it with a true NHT center channel speaker and noticed a huge difference. Spend the extra bucks and get a dedicated center speaker rather than just going with 3 Zeros.

I would definitely buy these again, and several of my friends have bought them after auditioning mine. For the price they are great.

I have a limited listening experience on audio gears. I paid attention to NHT Superzero when I read the Steoreophile's recommendation as "the best minimonitors under $1000". Therefore, I ordered a pair with NAD 314 and NAD 512.
The NHT has a fair image. However, the sound quality is not very sweet. I was especially disappointed with its sounds of female voice. May be I need to set them up more carefully to dig more music out of them.

The NHT Zero is good for value. Considering those exotic high-priced speakers, it is a bargain.

For a detailed review about this combination, please refer to my review on NAD 314.

Strength:

Attractive, affordable. audiophile sound quality

Weakness:

None when understanding the design purpose of this model

Anyone who finds this lacking bass, DUH!!! It is to be used with a subwoofer or as a rear channel. The Superzero is a true audiophile speaker on the cheap! It must be driven by a fairly large high-quality amplifier. If you use these inexpensive speakers with receivers you will get bright, grating sound. Use it with higher end amplification, they are hard to beat. The perfect audiophile "micro" system when mated to a quality sub. Sure they are cheap, but treat them like you payed 10 times as much and you will be fine.

I'm using a Rotel 1095 (5x200) and once the sub is properly integrated they will beat the $900 a pair Soliloquy 5.0s for theater. Buy 4 plus a Supercenter and take the money you saved on this "cheap" system and buy a kick-arse amp with good power and detail. Skip the receiver and use Rotel separates. They start at $2000 for processor and 110 watt amp!

Strength:

Detail, imaging, quality

Weakness:

None for it's size and price

Ok I thought I'd add my few cents in to all the hype. Unlike Bose who generates all its hype through advertising, these NHT speakers have generated all their hype from grassgroots users. I bought my SuperZeros for about $125/pr to be used as computer speakers. I just recently sold my main stereo speakers and I hooked up the SZ's just to have some sound. When I listen to them with my main stereo equipment I still can't possibly believe I paid $125 for what I get. Their detail and imaging is amazing. They reveal every nuiance of vocals and synthesizers on the Depeche Mode CD I'm playing right now as I write this. I actually like the soft dome tweeter a little better than the NHT 1.5. The 1.5 is more revealing but brighter which can become fatiguing. The S0/S1's tweeter is detailed without being overly bright.

Normally I have these speakers hooked up to a little 30 watt integrated amp which is plenty of power when you set 3 feet away. When I hooked them up to my 120 watt Rotel they really open up. These amazing speakers live up to their hype. Will they perform miracles or outdo $2000 B&W Matrix monitors? Of course not, but for $125 you can get 3/4 of the way there. As everyone else will say, these speakers have NO bass. Not little bass, NO bass. But that's OK, what do you expect from a 4 inch mid? They don't pretend to have bass. Add a good sub and these things will really sing. Even without a sub they still sound amazing all things considered. I feel sorry for all those saps out there spending $1000 for some cheap Bose cubes with bloated sound when for a lot less they could be getting some real detail and imaging. For a little more you can buy a SuperOne and get some serious midbass. The only things to keep in mind with these speakers are the lack of bass as noted previous and also their relative inefficeny. If you want to drive these with 15 watt tube amps you might be dissapointed if you want any loud volume. Really though even my 30 watt integrated will produce significant loudness so they're not that bad. Oh yea, take into consideration the real MDF thick enclosure and 5 way binding posts and compare them to the mass market junk with cheap plywood and pinch type connectors for more money. At $125/pr you can afford to put these in your bathroom while you brush your teeth. Amazing sound and amazing value.

Strength:

Tonal accuracy; imaging, & build quailty. Spousal approval factor is very high (small size, small price, reasonably attractive)

Weakness:

Bass? What bass? Sub-woofer is absolutely required.

What a find. For the money, I just don't think you could do much better than these. Mate them with a decent sub-woofer and you'll have a REALLY great sounding, fits almost anywhere set up, WITHOUT spending big bucks. The 80/20 rule applies here: you get 80% (I think much more) of the high end sound at 20% (or less) of the cost.
The SuperZeros are revealing (you'll hear things on your recordings that you didn't know were there) and they have a great tonal balance: they don't over emphasize any part of the spectrum. And as for the complaints about being harsh or overly bright, well, I find that to be very recording dependent. There are an awful lot of recordings out there that sound worse as the playback system gets better; the NHTs tell you what's honestly on the recording. They aren't great if you're into disturbing the neighbors; they're really best in medium or smaller rooms. But at normal to moderately-loud listening levels, they are truly a pleasure to hear.
I listened to quite a few speakers before buying the NHTs. After a couple of years of living with them, I'm still convinced I made the right choice. I prove it to myself every now and then when I get the urge to upgrade and visit a hifi store. Yes, I could buy better, but not significantly better, and not without spending major bucks. Very highly recommended.
