NORH 7.0 is unique and wonderful speaker. It is made of solid wood and drum like shape. Hand carved by skilled Thailanders so no nails and glues are used. Two inches thick. All internal wiring is silver wire. Sound? "Alive!" Period. Anyone who are looking for a good speaker under 8k, do not need to go any further. Visit . Even if you do not need a speaker, NORH web site is very fun to visit. Mr. Barnes, the engineer of NORH speaker, gives his insight regarding the structure of speaker, amplifier, wire and even some good CDs! Since my system is not good enough to evaluate this speaker I can not comment on the sound of this speaker in detail. From my humble system (yamaha receiver and cd player), however, I get clean, vivid and deep bass sound. This speaker deserves more than five stars. The previous reviewer said this cost around 1k but that price was for the DYU kit (without drivers) which was offered during the promotion. Now this model is offered only as a finished. You can buy a pair of NORH 7.0 for around 1500 USD which is still far below than its actual value.

I know it is really subjective for music lover to review an audio system, especially loudspeaker. Though I do not have a good system to evaluate my NORH 7.0 speakers fully, I can say that these speakers produce beautiful music even through my down to earth system; yamaha receiver and cd player! All I can say about the sound is that these speakers sound "alive." Excuse my naive terminology because I have not learned audiophiles' term yet. NORH speaker Co. offers five different models including subwoofer, and NORH 7.0 is, I believe, their flagship so far.
These unique speakers are, made of hard wood, drum like shape so no nail no glue are used. All hand carved by skillful Thailanders. According to the engineer, Mr. Barnes, he is the creator of this gorgeous speaker, this drum shape is one of the very best ways to resolve the problem of resonance. I do not know much about acoustic so I will leave it to you and Mr. Barnes. Mr. Barnes offers a great web site too: www. NORH.com
If you are a "real" music lover and audiophile (I mean, not the one who loves rather spending his or her money on brand name system and proud of his or her action than spening time for music itself), please visit his web site and share his thoughtful insight. If you have any question audio related, just email him and he will answer your question as he did for me several times already.

Strength:

Midrange, bass, looks, design, components

Weakness:

not much I can think of

When I first got them I thought that they looked great, but I was really supprised when my wife thought that they looked great as well. (High wife acceptence factor). I first hooked them up to a Pioneer Elite VSX 27tx Home theater receiver, and AH! Tjoeb CDP. They sounded much better then the Klipsch 10.5 floor standing speakers, and they had more bass then the B&W 601s2's. I sold the Klipsch's about three weeks later.

I then received the Morrison ELAD preamp. The tweeters really came alive. It turns out that the pioneer had been masking the very highest highs. I have one CD that I always use to evaluate stereo equipment it is Jennifer Warnes "The Hunter". I took it down to the local Hi-end dealer and listened to the B&W Nautilus 805's, and 802's.

The nOrh 7.0's were as good(they went lower)as the 805's, but the tweeter in both reveiled just a bit more then the tweeter in the 7.0's. In fact, the 7.o's went as low as the 802's.
For the money I don't think there is a better speaker for the money except maybe the nOrh 4.0, or the nOrh 9.0.

As it happened, I was one of the first customers of the nOrh multi-amp, and the nOrh 9.0 speaker. Unfortunately, when the multi-amps arrived they were damaged in transit and I blew the woofers in both 9.0 speakers. The scanspeak "Revelator" woofers were so new I could only find them in Canada, no-one in the USA had them!!! (nOrh reimbursed for all the costs of me getting the woofers). Anyway Werner Hartinger the man who built the Multi-amp for nOrh made a trip from Bangkok to Indiana to fix my amps, and to see what happened to avoid the problems in the future. I think that is customer service that goes above and beyond what would be reasonably expected of any firm.

The 9.0 speakers have as good of tweeters as any B&W Nautilus speaker, and they have better bass then the 802. In fact they are the best sounding speaker I have ever heard. I'm trying to get Norbert here to add the 9.0 for review.

To recap, for $1400 they are a wonderful speaker, for $2000 the nOrh 9.0 is one of the best. I totally recommend either depending on your budget.

PS Werner brought a pair of 4.o speakers with him for the other customer he visited in the states and I got a chance to listen to them. They were really quite nice for being such small speakers.

nOrh 7.0,five stars for sound, 10 stars for value, 100 stars for customer service.

I want to point out right off the bat that I do not own nOrh speakers nor have I ever heard them. The nOrh 7.0's are on my short list of speakers to buy. They get excellent reviews, both here at audioreview.com and elsewhere.

Yet I felt compelled, given the glowing reviews below, to point out that nOrh offers a very shallow warranty. 1 year on the electronics and *only* 90 days on the cabinet. For a $1400 speaker that seems rather brief to me. I contacted Mr. Barnes and he said they don't offer a long warranty because it costs them too much to ship warranty items because they're in Thailand. He also said that most warranties are bogus anyway and that nOrh wants to make the customer happy and will do whatever it takes to do so. Apparently whatever it takes except put it in writing. And for that reason I do not feel comfortable purchasing a nOrh speaker. May change my mind one day, but for now can't justify the risk.

Even my mass market NHT superones came with a 5 year warranty.

I'm in no way implying that nOrh makes substandard speakers, I honestly only know what I read which seems to imply they are of high quality. But I felt compelled to temper the enthusiasm below with a reality check about nOrh's warranty, or lack there-of. I just can't spend $1400 with only a 90 day warranty on the cabinets. That's not to say that you shouldn't, it's up to you.

And once again, all the reviews I've read about nOrh have been very favorable. To not influence their star rating since I've not heard them, I'll give them 5 stars, with a grain of salt.
