Strength:
fantastic build quality, very attractive, trustworthy company, very high value
Weakness:
none I''ve listened to Ohm speakers for about 20 years now, beginning with Ohm E bookshelf speakers, moving up to the venerable Ohm L bookshelf speaker, and migrating to the Ohm Sat 1 system a couple years ago when space constraints called for something smaller and more versatile. The strongest aspect of the Ohm satellite speakers is that they have a much lower bottom end than most satellite speakers. The overall sound is natural, and they handle music and home theater well....an unusual balance. The company that makes them -- Ohm -- also deserves comments. Ohm is a tremendous pleasure to work with. When you contact the company, it is not unusual to get a response from the company president...that''s right, the president. When I purchased the speakers from Ohm''s factory, I had one of the lead designers spend unhurried time with me demonstrating them. Ohm is a great company you can really trust, and it is such a pleasure to deal with competent people. |

SAT-1 / 120Pk Watts / $220 Pr./ BLACK Only / 8"x7"x7"The SAT-1 ‘automatic!’ rear speakers for older standard stereos!!! and Dolby DIGITAL® AC3(DTS) are uni-directional. This means that they have one single speakers driver in each cabinet in order to produce one controlled single sound wave into the room. The physical shape of the speaker cabinet is cut to allow the sound to disperse in a controlled forward pattern while spreading the soundwave like a bubble. The sound quality can be heard even if you stand behind the speaker. In fact the shape is similar to the human head. If you want to experiment just have someone talk to you while she/he turns their back to you. The persons voice lowers a tiny bit in volume but not in quality. This scientific design is based on natural sound wave movement. If you are looking for a speaker that is absolutely natural sounding but just a more comfortable on the highs, then the SAT-1 is perfect as a front speaker when used in combination with the SB-1 subwoofer. You will observe, through your minds eye, a transparent controlled front soundstage as intended by the recording studio engineers. On one test that we did, the SB-1 is placed like a pedestal on the floor in the corner of the room. With one SAT-1 mounted to the wall on the swivel bracket about seven feet above the subwoofer and the other SAT-1 thirty feet away in the other corner, an incredible image appears perfectly between them and the speakers themseves seemingly disappear! Everything is coming into the room exactly where it’s supposed to be and the speakers are not even part of the equation !!! |

Ohm Speaker Company truly deserves 5 stars for this speaker system. In fact, the company deserves 5 stars for its willingness to help its customers upgrade even their original line of speakers. Yes, you read it correctly. I said upgrade. I have owned Ohm’s C2's for almost 20 years now and when the foam finally wore out, I contacted Ohm on the internet. Ohm’s President--yes, not a sales person, walked me through repairing and upgrading of this 20 year old speaker; all at a cost far less than comparable new speakers. You know, I spent a year trying to purchase new speakers--and could not find one pair that had the realistic sound of OHM. For a really nominal fee, Ohm sent me a kit that had new woofers, crossovers and a digital upgrade. With their instructions and some glue, I had brand new speakers. |
