I saw a review in an audio magazine on the LX 5's, and the exact words were "Best value under $300!!!" So I went to Radio Shack expecting to hear a typical low quality Radio Shack speaker, when I run into a salesman who just started raving about these speakers. He goes "these speakers are amazing, and they just went on sale for $150, half price!" I told him to just play something and shut up, so he popped in Dire Straits On Every Street, an album which I was very familiar with. Now I was listening to a system that all together didn't cost as much as my cd player, but since I read so many reviews about these speakers I was hoping for a little miracle from them. Well, just imagine listening to a hand held radio inside a soup can, and that gives you an idea about the sound that I was hearing that made me sick to my stomach. I forget which magazines gave these things good reviews, but the reviewers should consider another career. |

Of Course, the bass.. I bought the LX5's along with the LX10's,with LX10's as the front speakers and the LX5's as the "surround" speakers..I'm using a DENON ARV1800 receiver 75wx5 power."PSB" center channel speaker.I read that to make the LX5 sound better was to put a sock inside the speaker to CALM down the High Sounds from it..I tried that and all i got was muffled sounding speakers.I gave it some thought about what to put inside of it and figured out that by putting a "MAXI-PAD" inside of it helps out ALOT in getting a stronger mid-range from it!! So try that and set the LX5's up in the corners of your room and see if that helps out any.(Use a sub-woofer if you use the LX5's for your home theater system). |

Just so so midrange. Picked these up (LX5 II's) for $200 Canadian (~$135 US) a pair on sale (regularly $350 Canadian a pair). For $200 I can't complain. I prefer the sound of my Paradigm Atom's (formerly my rear channel speakers, banished to the bedroom for music only listening), which can be had for the same price. The tweeters on these speakers make for a very nice rear channel setup on a home theater. Similar Products Used: Paradigm Atom, Paradigm 3se, Paradigm Phantom |

Strength:
Solid build
Weakness:
For 150 bucks, none. I, too, have the LX5II's that I got for $150 a pair at radioshack. I use them for rear speakers in my surround system. They handle 65 watts RMS which is plenty for any listenable volume. The tweeter is sweet, and kinda weird lookin'. The seperation isn't as good as the SuperOne's, but the mid and high notes sounded just as good as the Klipsch km-c. The SuperOne, LX5II, and km-c all have about the same amound of bass- not much. But with a sub they sound great. Similar Products Used: NHT SuperOne |

5 speakers based on price/performance. I love mine, I have them at all 4 corners in a 5.1 setup. Pluses: crystal clear highs, dipole tweeters give a large soundstage. Minuses: Weak bass, Mids are just OK. But hey, what did you expect from a small $75 bookshelf speaker? To overcome the weaknesses I added a the CS-5 for the center channel which has excellent mids, and a powered subwoolfer for the lows. The setup sounds much better to me that the Bose, Polk, and Infinity systems, costing hundreds more, that I auditioned at the local Circuit City sound room. |

Weakness:
Lack of Bass Get a sub. Nuff said. However, when coupled with a sub, it is the best value. I am used to speakers that cost 200-300 each, for 75 dollars or less these make a great value. Would be ideal for a home theater system. I think this can do better than a 3.92 so its 5 stars from me. Similar Products Used: Paradigm Mini MOnitor MK3, NHT Superones. |

Strength:
Great highs, great home theatre speaker, spacious, good for all types of music, durable solid construction (grandkids have knocked off stands several times!! speakers still work!
Weakness:
Lack of bass, vocals are not as realistic as i would like I initially bought the LX-5s to replace the cheapo KLX speakers I had used in my home theatre system for about 3 years. My system consisted of Yamaha Dolby Pro-logic Receiver (60 watts x 3 and 15 watts x 2), NHT Superzero for fronts and center speaker, and DCM Subwoofer, the KLHs were good enough for an underpowered rear channel, or so I thought..... Strength:
The price, take an additional 10% off by appling for the shack credit card. I paid $116 a pair! The construction.
Weakness:
Sound is a bit off, no detectable bass even through my eq. Totally weak wiring setup. They use 20 guage wire from the x-over to the wires. At least it is a real crossover! The sound? I am using them as my rear surround speakers. Surround itself is not a great source of music. I then connected them to the main speaker outs from my Yamaha RX-393 and was still disappointed. Good thing they were on DEEEEEEEEEP discount. For the price they are a novel speaker. Aluminum housing, dense construction and to be honest I have not really given them a break in period. Using them as surround speakers they really don't get a full dose of wattage. I am playing around with them and I am actually so in love with them that I am going to buy another pair for the garage. and experiment with the first pair. They seem so advanced in their design. |
