Strength:
Good Detail, very natural sound, GREAT HIGHS due to the ribbon tweeter.
Weakness:
kinda loose in the midrange, I use a subwoofer and would recommend the use of one with these speakers. What can I say, go buy a pair, even if used! Great speaker for Jazz and other music with lots of overtones. Similar Products Used: None |

When I first hooked these speakers up I sat and listened to them for a while and thought that they were horrible, but upon my wifes request I moved them around and found a very sweet spot. The imaging is wonderful and I constanly find myself looking around to see where the sound is comming from. I could in no way beat these speakers for the 59.99 I spent on each of them. |

I have owned a set of four PRO-LX8s' for about year and a half with a PRO-CS5 as a center channel and an AUDIOSOURCE MODEL SW8 subwoofer. As far as most of my friends and I are concerned this system is excellent for home theatre in a mid-sized room. I've played Desperado and Blade on my DVD (Creative Labs 3rd generation) and this system crushed a friend of mine system which only differs in speakers, he has Bose 301 IV, as well in music. For the price that Radio Shack is literally giving them away at have your local dealer do an area computer search and grab a set if you still can. I have two friends who will most likely clear them from Wichita and Salina so look else where. Good Luck! |

I just purchased a pair of the PRO-LX8 based on the reviews at this site. I am using them for a surround syatem along with the CS-5 centerspeaker. Great sound for the money. I went to tne major stores (Best Buy, Circut City, ABC) and never thought that I would purchase the speakers at Radio Shack.. I highly recommend them for this type of system. They are getting scarce - took the floor models. Thanks for the info. |

I concur! I have been longing to upgrade my main speakers, particularly as I have gotten into jazz. But like many others I just didn't have the funds to get into a pair of paradigms, mirage or NHT, then I dropped in at the local "Rat Shack" and found the Pro LX8, I was very impressed. The price on the tag- $199 each, darn. The salesman says "let me check that" and sure enough its the last pair in the store on clearance for $79!! I snapped them up! I love 'em, excellent imaging, fantastic bass for a bookshelf speaker ( along with my powered sub, movies really rumble!) If you can find 'em, get 'em before its too late! Simply can't beat the cost and quality. |

As popular as the LX-5's were, it really puzzles me why these LX-8's didn't become at least as popular as their smaller sibling. Because in overall sound quality, I feel the LX-8's are superior- a more accurate speaker than the LX-5's. I have been listening to the LX-5's for over a year, with powered sub and they sound really clear and super-spacious but I also felt they were somewhat bright. I can listen to these LX-8's for a long period and they sound more natural with all types of music but they really excel on acoustic music. And to my ears, the soundstage seems even wider on this speaker than on the LX-5's. If you're not super critical about having a speaker that goes below 50hz in the bass region, I think you'll be hard-pressed to find another speaker pair at $160 (clearance price while they're still in stock) that delivers the performance these things do. Four stars for overall performance but five+ for value. |

I purchased these speakers to supplement the Optimus LX-5s I currently have on my rear channels. For Dolby Pro Logic the LX-5s do a very good job. However, I had no idea how clear the LX-8s are and how large of a soundstage they project. They have enough bass to more than satisfy my taste and the imaging matches the high dollar speakers I have longed for. You may dislike Radio Shack for whatever reason(s), but my hat off to them for offering high quality sound for the masses at a fraction of the cost. "Good Job Shack!!" |

I purchased the Optimus LX8 on clearance for around $184 the other day while picking up some batteries at Radio Shack. I needed to replace some floor speakers that took up too much room (in my wife's eye) The speakers sounded pretty good at the store, especially for the price. I got home and placed them about 4 -5 feet from the wall on stands as instructed by the salesperson. WOW!I was very impressed. The vocals are extremely detailed and clean. The bass output is a little weak, but when combined with a subwoofer they sound incredible. The honestly do sound much better then the floor models they replaced in my home theater system, and they cost about 3x more. Again, the highs are as clean and open as any speaker I could ever afford. It's very important to keep them off of shelves and a few feet away from the wall so the tweater on top and spread the sound throughout the room. |
