Strength:

Fantastic bass response. Great highs and clarity. They just sound right.

Weakness:

They don't serve beer.

I'm drooling over how good these speakers sound. Hooked up to a Marantz PM7000 integrated these are just amazing. I like heavy rock and electronic music and these deliver. I have nothing more to say, this is the sound I was looking for. Rock on.

A very nice soundstage indeed. I am very, very pleased with these 20's, I don;t think you are going to do any better in the price range. I am experiencing a little brittleness in the high mid- top end. I do not think the speakers are the culprit though. I am using an Auio Research D-100B, rotel preamp, Sony NS500V (great price, maybe need an upgrade)

Strength:

Beautiful styling, silky smooth tonal range and perfect treble response without making adjustments to the receiver.

Weakness:

None that I've ever found, other than that I find myself being very protective of them.

I currently have one pair of Studio/20's, and just placed an order for one more pair and a Studio/CC. Due to my falling in love with the Rosenut finish on my current 20's, I had to have it on the new ones. They are gorgeous to just look at, much less to listen to. I don't find it necessary for the speakers to have deep bass response, since they match well wtih my Velodyne Servo subwoofer. They 20's can play very loud without straining. The convenience of binding posts is appreciated, but the option to bi-amp or bi-wire them seems frivalous. They are remarkable speakers for the dollar amount that you pay. You can find them with a vinyl finish, but then they simply look like any other boxy speaker - the real wood finish gives them a nice curved side-panel that is quite appealing.

This review is a follow to my previous one. I have these speakers for a while now. They are amazing speakers for less than a thousand bucks. They are the best IMHO. Diana Krall's "Cry me a River" sounded so good that my visiting brother in law thought it was a live concert in my living room. The piano and vocals were realistic and detailed. These speakers will be in my system until I can find the juice to upgrade to Studio 100 V2 cherry veneer. Highly recommended.

Strength:

The most transparent and musical speaker for the money...other than the Maggie MMG

Weakness:

Limited ported bass...but hey you cant have "everything" at this price!

As most reviewers know, in the 500-600 dollar range there are not that many choices for a truly hi-end sounding speaker. The better designs are 2-way standmounters that at their best produce a convincing musical experience. Based on the excellent reviews here and in the press I decided to audition the studio 20s. For a reference point I did an a/b comparison with two highly regarded speakers I was already familiar with: that is the NHT 1.5 and the Monitor AUdio silver 4i. The key areas of critical listening I focused on were:transparency, detail, soundstage, imaging, and low frequency response. One my favorite tests for transparency is the famous alarm clock piece from Darkside of the moon. Of the three, the Paradigm was far an away the most transparent, with the speaker virtually disappearing during the alternating clock sounds. The only other box speaker design that accomplished this as well was my old pair of spics tc-50s. To my surprise, the NHTs were the least transparent sounding of the lot, and although never bordering on "boxy", the sounds could be cleary located. As far as soundstage, the Paradigm again was the leader of the pack. For this I used Chris Isaak's "Forever Blue", which is one of the cleanest and deepest recordings I have come across. THe studios had very good top to bottom depth, with the sound clearly coming from behind the speaker plane. Of the three, the Monitors sounded the smallest, while the NHTs didn't have the depth and width of the studios but had more height. They sounded alot bigger than they looked...which goes for the studios as well. For detail, all three of these excelled. Surprisingly, the NHT and Paradigms, which are often noted for sounding bright, were as smooth or smoother than the MA. This might be due to the fact that the MAs were the most forward sounding of the punch. For my test I used a cd from a french group called AIR, which can be best described as "modern instrumentals", and through the course of the cd acoustic guitars are used in and out. If I had to pick one, I would have to go with the studios. In regards to imaging this is where the studios really distance themselves from the lost. More than any other speaker I have heard in recent memory they were able to produce that 3-d phantom center channel sound audiophiles love. The NHTs did this at times also, but often the imaging was localized aroun

Strength:

Great Stereo/HomeTheater speakers if your on a budget and want great sounding speakers.

Weakness:

Needs a good Subwoofer preferably Paradigm PW-2200 or Servo 15. But that's all folks!

Pick up these speakers at Sound City these guys were on the money when they said these were great speakers. These speakers replace my JBL studio 310 floorstanders. Paradigm blows the away with the crisp high's and tight low's ( bout 40hz). Although I have a PW-2200 to match with my Studio CC . This combination of speakers will put others well regarded speakers costing twice as much to shame. All I have to say is if you have the money get'em you won't regret it! My system: Denon AVR3802 Toshiba 4109x DVD player Yamaha Natural Sound CX460 Stereo AMP Toshiba 36' inch TV Cinema Series. Paradigm Studio 20's Paradigm Studio CC center speaker. Paradigm PW-2200 Subwoofer. Canton's surrounds.

Weakness:

Lack of bass driver

I figured it'd be a good time to write a follow-up. Since my purchase of them over a year ago, I've also purchased a Marantz SR7200 A/V Receiver and a Paradigm PW2200 12" Subwoofer, both of which I like a lot. The speakers still sound great, and are much improved with the new amp. All traces of brightness are now gone. Build quality still remains first rate, nothing has failed, and they continue to impress me. My only complaint really is that they don't have a bass driver.

Weakness:

no bass driver, all running off basically a mid driver. would have liked to compare these to the studio 40's which are the only paradigms i have not heard in the ref. series.bass is nice but not like the 60's and above(extra driver)

I have to say that for the money you cant go wrong with studio 20's. the reference series paradigms are such a bargain. all can easily outplay speakers almost double the price. i compared these side by side with b&w and definitive tech's alike models. and my wife and i both easily agreed on the paradigms. unless you like loud volume levels these speakers are for you. I must say though, if you can shell the money out for the studio 80's or better yet the 100's. I also run the 100's with a bryston 4b amp and i cant see how it could sound to much better. the soundstage of these speakers are simply amazing. so accurate. and no coloration!if you like jazz/smooth jazz, or any easy goin music these are what you want. if you like rap or metal, look else where. but if you want to apreciate high end sound, these are the best bang for your buck! buy them and get a 3b bryston amp and a 25 bryston preamp, you will be very happy and all this can be dont easily under $2000 if you buy the brystons used(have 20 yr. transferable warranty!and backed better then anyone) off a audiogon classified seller or some where.your gettin high end sound at very low cost. but like i mentioned if you want loud levels id say studio 100's with a 4b!that will knock you off your feet! mine sounds amazing and the acoustics of that room absorb everything. no speaker has done near what these have in that room. sounded even better downstairs! get these speakers if you have $700 or less to spend, and usually you can grab these for at least $600!sometimes lower. beware of the break in period for all paradigm speakers even there subs! this is true!count on 3 weeks before your gettin 95% cabable sound maybe longer

Strength:

Vocal reproduction is stunning. Imaging is quite good, but will depend greatly on set up and positioning.

Weakness:

Bass extension (as you might expect with a small monitor) but it's not at all bad.

After owning Titans for several years, my decision to upgrade to a higher quality speaker naturally led me to audition the Studio 20 from Paradigm. I am thrilled with my decision to purchase these speakers. They complement my electronics extremely well (see below) and make for a most enjoyable listening experience. The Studio 20 possesses an amazing balance, with a smooth, if not slightly forward treble, and a tight, controlled bass. I purchased the 20's with the cherry veneer which adds solidity to the speaker and its sound, not to mention that it looks great with my custom built cherry stands. These are quite good speakers, and I recommend them highly for those that must be careful of price and have limited space for installation. Also, I found that using EZ-Tack between the 20s and my stands had an immediate and poitive effect on their sound. Folks, I'm not kidding here! Strength:

***** Solidly built, beautiful, sound really great.

Weakness:

Price is cheap and makes people doubt the ability.

I've got the studio 20.v2 second hand cheaply from a friend of mine going into HT. One word to describe this speaker - awesome. Comparing to previous cheap speaker Mission and KEF bookshelf this speaker will blow them to dust. The midrange is excellent, bass? What can i say, wondering how come this kind of bass can be produced by this standmount (fast, tight, dynamic). This is a very good speaker and I really believe in this statement "Rubbish in, rubbish out"- this is what a good speaker do, That means it will sound bright or harsh when wrong setup wrongly. It will provide me many years of enjoyment unless I got the bucks to upgrade to higher end stuff, but simply said Paradigm guys are really fabolous as they can produce such a good speaker costing lesser than a lot of other speaker manufacturer.
