Strength:

Smooth effortless sound. Great imaging. Extremely efficient.
Beautiful rosewood finish.

Weakness:

In short, an awesome audiophile quality speaker at a budget price.

There are better sounding speakers out there but you'll have to go to your bank and withdraw around $2500 to get them. I paid $599. What a great investment.

These speakers are dead on accurate. Male vcals are extraordinary but female vocals are for lack of a better word, spectacular. I listen mostly classical and jazz but
these speakers shine no matter what the medium.

HT is great particularly when coupled with phase tech 6.5 VDT center and power 10 subwoofer. You feel like you're in the movie.

Can't say enough but probably have so do yourself a big favor. Buy these speakers for $599 or less, and use the two grand you saved to buy a 60 inch rear projection HD TV like I did and enjoy!

I listened to every brand and model of speaker between $500 and $1200, I could find in North and South Dakota for two years before I found some that I fell in love with. I took home a pair of klipsch(don't remember model) and returned them. I was talking to an audiophile (has a $40,000 system)that I work with and he told me to go listen to some phase technology 7.5's that just came out. I did and was very impressed. I took them home a year ago and are the best purchase I have ever made. They sound great and project the sound very well. I have them hooked to a two channel Denon(DRA-775RD) 90 watt receiver. When watching vcr movies the sounds seem to be coming from behind and beside you. You don't need surround sound with these speakers. I think they are very balanced in sound, plenty of base.

Strength:

Balanced sound. Good mid and high ranges. Nice bass.

Weakness:

Tone is a slightly subdued.

I auditioned everything I could under $1000 in town. Every speaker has character, and I am cautious to buy speakers without the chance to audition them.
I directly compared these to the Veritas 2.1 ($1000). I wish I had the oppurtunity to A/B these with the Monitor Audio Silver 4. They had great sound but lost out because
I LOVE the detail heard in the Veritas line.
These are great speakers for the money. I have the 4.5s and wish they had more bass. In the store the Mini Monitors ($350) sounded great. These more well rounded than the Paradigms when placed side by side.
In the end I chose the Veritas. They actually share a similar tone. The 7.5 has a bigger bass sound. In the Veritas I hear the musician actually plucking the strings and the snap of the drum a little more. This is being picky. And of course I want the $1500 Veritas 2.2 because they sound richer. But that is in a different class.
The Phase Tech did have a more clear or bright sound than the PSBs, which were well reviewed but I did not like at all.
I am no expert, obviously. My eqpt is only a Yamaha receiver & CD player. This board has been a great resource for learning but it comes down to what sounds good to you.

Non so far

After comparing my old bookshelves (PS-10 "Design Acoustics") with my friend's B&W 602s about a year ago, I was sold on B&Ws. The 602s imaging & clarity for the price was astounding. So about month ago I walked in my local B&W dealer ready to purchase the 602s but in a spare of the moment I decided to audition the Phase Tech.Teatro 7.5 V. as well (I had read some good reviews on the center channel 6.5).

The salesman played my Chesky Audiophile test CD. After doing the A/B switch I was blown away. Could not believe how clear and detailed the Theatro 7.5 sounded. The 602s in comparison sounded muddy which was very hard to believe. I even touched the speaker to make sure the right speaker was playing. I even did the A/B switch between the 7.5s & B&W’s 603-s2 and for me again the Phase tech. was the winner and they cost half the 603s. It was a revelation. Needless to say I end up taking them home that night and they sounded great out of the box but about 20 hrs of breaking period is recommended. And the Phase Tech. Center channel 6.5 is on order. The 7.5 V. are magnificent speakers for the price but do your own A/B switch & test them yourself.

This review is for the upgraded version of the 7.5T with the titanium woofer. They are called the "7.5T VDT". The original 7.5T's had a 7inch black polycone driver and rosewood finish. I owned them for 2 months and generally thought they sounded very good, but they had a few problems. They suffered from bass boom and midrange suckout, when partnered with the wrong electronics and bad recordings. Consequently they didn't mate well with solid state electronics and sounded much better with my ASUSA K2003 4 watt tube amp. I traded the original 7.5T's in for the 7.5T VDT. The Manufacturer claims that there is no difference in sound quality between the two, but I disagree. The 7.5VDT's are a completely different speaker. They are consistent and musical regardless of the electronics. The midrange is also much more transparent and tonally accurate. The biggest improvement is with the bass, which is deep and musical. There isn't a problem with boom and overhang. Overall this is a much improved speaker that sounds better than some costing 2 to 3 times as much.
If you own the old 7T's or 7.5T's you should upgrade to these without thinking twice. And if you live in NJ purchase them from Professional Audio Consultants in Millburn, they are an excellent dealer.

Strength:

Nice asthetic apperance, excellent bass reproduction, clear highs.

Weakness:

Fit and finish not superior

I went looking for a speaker which would double for HT and home audio. I did limit myself to a budget but did not want price to dictate my purchase primarily. I tried all the aforementioned brands and found myself coming back to the Phase Tech's. There was no question that the B&W had a very refined sound and wide sound stage but at double the price I could not justify the purchase. The NHT was way to tinny for my ears and the Paradigm's focused a bit too much in the mid area while lacking the low end punch. The Phase Tech's seemed to comprimise the best with clear high's and tight bass. The imaging in my room appears to be picky and not very forgiving. Once set properly the soundstage opens up in front of you very well. The bass reproduction out of these speakers are tremendous. If you listen to drum and bass tracks and intend on HT use these are very, very nice speakers. The bass is extremely tight and not muddy. The highs are very clear but the mids appear to fade a bit. I did notice however that good cabling did make quite a differnce on these speakers. I'm running a Denon 3300 with a Denon CD player. I'm using Tributaries cabling throughout the system and it did help the tonal range on many tracks and brought out vocals without being chesty. With almost zero press issued on this company it did bother me but I trusted my ears and went with them. I picked them up for $399 a pair and at that price I felt they were a gift.

They do open up once broken in. I've been running pink noise and some bass heavy tracks to help. After time they seem to get a bit better tonally. In my opinion they are a best bang for the buck.

In addition I did test all speakers being run through a Denon 3300, same track of music, and all tones set to flat to insure a semi-controlled test bed.

Strength:

Does everything well, Highs & Lows, Home-theater, Audio, price, size.

Weakness:

Doesn't do everything great.

After a long search for new floor-standing speakers I finally settled on these. I felt the Dynaudio was a better speaker except in looks and bass. Vandersteen was better but they are not shielded and they made rainbows on my TV. B&W were great but wife didn't like the size, same with Klipsch. Acoustic Energy and Monitor Audio just sucked. For life of me I can't understand why everyone raves about Monitor, maybe I just had bad pair? Phase Technology gave me bass I needed for big room, work well for both audio and HT, look nice. In some ways I feel I didn't get the best speaker possible, but I would have had to double price spent to really get better, and I couldn't justify. I listen to wide range of music, jazz, alternative, rock, classical, and these were the best on all. Some speakers were better on classical (B&W) but fell off in other areas. Dynaudio good in acoustical, but fell off in rock.
I ended up with a compromise and so far am very happy.
