Strength:
Norhing to really remember them by other than weak tweeters. I would say it they were replaced with a set of old peerless soft domes they may have a much more balanced sound. I just had these connected to an old 75wx2 BGW amp while auditioning some old Polk Monitor speakers that I sold. I ran 1 of each on the amp and the Polks were far better sounding (Im not a Polk fan at all) and the Polks would never make it into my system. I only paid $15 for the set and have 1 orphaned of a different model but its basically the same thing. Fixing the surrounds is very difficult and Ive fixed hundreds of drivers over my life. Trying to fit it up and attach rubber to styrofoam is not easy since Styrofoam melts when any type of solvent touches it. And very few glues are made to permanently bond to Styrofoam. They have some strange ideas I dont tend to agree are necessary but it may just be made in way thats different from the ordinary style of speaker design, hoping it will intrigue people to buy them. People tend to buy things that have unusual design but serve the same purpose. It worked for Chrysler (PT Cruiser) and Dyson vacuums, Bose did it and made millions, but I think Phase has entered into the mix just a bit too late since most people have moved past looks and accepted a certain formula thats been working and speakers have really not changed much in 100 years with the exception of a few brilliant out of the box thinkers. JanZens electrostatics, Heils airmotion, Klipsch Horns and folded designs, Magnaplaner panels, and of course some not that fantastic Dome drivers thar have dominated the speaker business due to their low cost and easy to mass produce design. Some work, most dont. This is a prime example of some that dont work. Weakness:
Unbalanced sound, needs a super bright amp . They should have made them with separate inputs for woofer and tweeters so they could be bi amplified, one amp channel driving each driver may be a way to make them at least tollerable. Id say Bose cube speakers sound a bit better than these just because they produce a much better midrange whi h this speaker has none at all. Ive owned (and still do) hundreds of speakers, big, small, medium, brands like Kilpsch, Snell, PBS, Cerwin Vega, infinity (from 1971 to 2012}, Aztec, Polk, JVC, Sony, Paradigm, Boston Acoustics, BIC, Mirage, KLH, Altec Lansing, JBL, Warfdale, Energy, Sonic, Marantz, Nuance, Sonas, DLK, DCM, radio shack, Yamaha, Denon, Pinnacle, Diginitive Tech, Atlantic Tech, Flaunce, Audio Source, Universal, Dayton, RCA, Technics, Hitachi, Advent, Jensen, Akia, RTR, Scott, white van, and thats just whats on hand right now with my main speakers being DIY'd from JansZen and Monitor Audio 2 way biamped Price Paid: 15

These are outstanding speakers! Although far from perfect, they're very, very good for $750. If you like rock, dance, or vocal music, these speakers are an excellent choice. They have a very smooth, pleasant, somewhat dark sound. They are not supremely detailed, but for rock this is a plus, as the inherently harsh sound of amplified, re-mixed instruments is smoothed out and made much more pleasant. Soundstaging is amazing! Imaging is diffuse, just like in a real concert hall, but the soundstage is HUGE! Wide, deep -- the sound they produce is utterly expansive and room-filling, almost like you're floating in the music. The moveable tweeter also allows a lot of leeway in placement, although these speakers should really be placed far apart -- beyond that, it doesn't really matter all that much. They are also extremely loud (93dB sensitivity!) and have excellent bass, although the upper bass is slightly over-emphasized. Overall, I found these speakers very good and very enjoyable. They are not transparent -- if you want that, look to the Dynaudio Audience 50's (everything Dynaudio makes is extremely transparent). Rather, it's a question of whether or not you like the coloration of these speakers. I did, and I find many audiophiles do. If you're a fan of Sonus Faber or Vandersteen but can't afford them and are looking for something a lot more forgiving of low-power amplification, Phase Tech is an excellent choice. Even if you can afford the others, the PC-2 are definitely better than their low-end offerings, and I would probably choose them over the $995 Sonus Faber Concertino or the $715 Vandersteen 1C with most electronics (e.g. NAD, Arcam, Linn, Denon, Thule). This is a great speaker overall, and is also absolutely spectacular in a home theater system -- possibly one of the best in that regard. I suggest to listen to these with the grilles on. |

Strength:
Deep sound stage, full rich sound, much better midrange and base than similar speakers
Weakness:
Hard to find I listened to dozens of pairs of speakers before purchasing these. They are extraordinarily rich and warm with a very deep detailed sound stage. The vocals are also incredibly rich and warm. These speakers do not produce the "boom boom hiss" type of sound that seems to dominate the mid-range speaker market these days. They do reproduce beautiful detailed music with realistic warm tones. When compared to Polks, Infinitys, or even Paradigms there is simply no comparison. The Theils are somewhat cleaner and crisper, but they also start at about $2400 and require a high end system to run them. In my opinion, there are no better speakers on the market for $750. They are very hard to find–but do yourself a favor and find some. Try them and I think you'll be amazed at how they stack up against similarly priced competition. I was. These are a fine speaker, and they seem to have the same tweeter and Mid as my older PC-100's (the 100's are towers though and included an extra mid/base driver). Similar Products Used: Phase Tech PC-100's and PC Center |

Strength:
Neutral sound, easy to drive, small package, wide soundfield, good value for money
Weakness:
When compared to MUCH more expensive speakers, not quite as transparent. These are great small speakers. For the money, you will not find anything more transparent, they are bettered only by MUCH more expensive products. Setup is less critical than some other speakers, and you get a decent image over a wide area. Very nice binding posts, they are able to be bi-wired or amped. These speakers (like all of phase technology speakers) are very easy to drive. I had more than enough power with my Jolida 15wpc integrated amp, and would expect any 300b based amp to be able to drive these speakers well. This generation from phase tech is the first to get rid of their persistant midrange colorations that plauged them in the past, so don't be afraid to try these now!
