As of summer 2016 Pinnacle is no longer is business. How do I know? Well I called the original dealer that sold me a complete set of Black Diamonds to inquire on warranty repair. He said good luck on getting a return call as he had tried for other clients with similar requests. In fact he also offered the owner's direct phone number which was in 413 area. I wrote to both email addresses on the web site (no response), called the owner Rich at 413-545-xxxx never got a return call. Then I found he had a brother in Florida who was managing a division for Pinnacle Speakers (Micky Rothenberg), he didn't respond either. I then found a tech for Pinnacle was corresponding answering questions on the woot.com web site. Again no responses from anyone. In all hours of wasted time to replace a mid-range driver. I bring the speaker to a local repair place as it was difficult to remove the mid-range driver despite I had removed many speakers in the past (see damaged driver below with cone tear). He tilts the cabinet forward and the driver dispenses. In looking at the housing,it was all plastic. What garbage. This probably happened during shipping and now showing an inferior product. In fact the magnet is quite heavy and unclear why anyone in their right mind would build or use such cheap plastic materials. (see other images). I then start from scratch in pursuit of a mid-range driver to fill the void. After ultimately working with Madisound Speakers in Wisconsin, we find a SEAS brand match with a metal housing. I took all the measurements such as diameter, depth etc as well as frequency response so that it matched the built in passive crossover. A week later the SEAS mid-range driver(s)(bought two one for each speaker) arrive and they are 1.5 mm off on the diameter (about the thickness of a paper clip). Those go back to Madisound. We find there's only the Morel CAW 428 at 118.5mm diameter however the driver peaks at 3k instead of 4k but was advised by Morel that won't make a difference these can still handle the 4k high end. They arrived yesterday and fit snug, even the screw holes line up. One new challenge though, the clips coming out of the cabinet did not match the tabs on the Morel. Those had to be cut, then stripped and new wire clips put on. I post this for anyone out there considering these speakers to know there is NO WARRANTY from the manufacturer. You are on your own. Should any component in this cabinet become damaged, good luck trying to find a match. Pinnacle went proprietary on everything even the wire clips. I suspect they greedily did this to make sure if you need help, no standard speaker would work and you were forced to pay Pinnacle. I sold Pinnacle speakers back in the mid 90's. I was always impressed with their build quality, big sound stage and clarity. In 2004, I was finally in a position to put together a home theater system. I had recently picked up a Harman Kardon AVR 7000, which is a monster receiver and back in 2000 was HK's flagship receiver. Anyways, I digress. I knew there were some great buys on ebay and you could get a lot of speaker for much cheaper than retail if you were willing to buy used. I fell in love as soon as I saw the piano black finish on the Black Diamond 1000's. I found a dealer who wasn't going to carry the Pinnacle line any longer. He was selling his floor models for $350! Retail on these at the time was $1100. I bought them without ever listening to them first. Yes I was taking a chance, but I knew the Pinnacle reputation and the audio magazines were giving them pretty good reviews. Being that they were floor models, they were fairly broken in, but in excellent quality. The sound the produce was lush and very clear with a large sound stage. They don't take up a lot of room either. I was surprised at how small they actually are which is due to the drivers only being 5'1/4. About the only complaint I have with them is a lack of really low base. They have two seperate drivers dedicated to low frequencies and are rated down to 34hz but I don't know about that. If you are sitting right in front of them they sound great, but if you walk away, the base definately doesn't follow you. At any rate, they still sound wonderful. I have since added the BD300 center, BD500 bookshelves for surrounds and the Digital 600 sub. Since adding the subwoofer, base is no longer an issue and in fact I probably went overkill with the Digital 600. I have it set to less than 1 on the volume and it still shakes the room. There's nothing like dual 12" drivers with a 600 watt digital amp driving them!! Anyways, I know you can still get the Pinnacle Black Diamond series. They even have some larger speakers with 61/2" drivers now. I doubt you can find too many other speakers in this price range with the same quality. I thoroughly recommend the Pinnacle Black Diamonds.
