I was going to purchase a pair of polk speaker when a friend that work at the store told me to listen to these pinnacle ref. gold speaker. All I know is that day I walk out with the Pinnacle's . In a side by side comparison to the polk rt 400 the sound to me was better . The bass was a winner hands down and the high end was as good as the polk. Both these speaker were in the same price range. Also Home theater did a review on these speaker in Dec 97 issue the gave them a 85

The only bad thing about these speakers is their finish, which I guess is where they save their money to price so low. But the sound is incredible. They sound just like NHT's that cost nearly twice as much! And with the matching Sub-350's, Center-channel and rear channel's, they make a great 5.1 system.

I recently purchased the Reference Towers direct for a great price, direct. these speakers are amazing, for the money, I do not beleive there is a better value. I do not care what has been said, these speakers are "audiophile" quality in their sound. My first impression upon listening was these speakers are "sweet" they do not come at you, they persuade you to listen, the low end is veru defined and mature, while the highs are clear and accentuated. They come with binding posts and good-looking standoffs for the bottom. I have been more impressed while listening to Jazz, Classical, jazz-Blues, (anything multi-instrumental) than with Rock, although they rock quite favoribly. There build quality is fine, although a tad plain. These speakers can hold there own w/ Klipsch, Paradigm, Def Tech, etc, any day and win hands down if cost is factored in. If your ego demands that you mortgage the house and make payments to enjoy fine sound, go elsewhere, if you want audiophile quality for change get these now, while they are still bargain priced.

Im going to agree with most of the other reviewers on the pinnaclegold refrence being a significant value if purchased at a somewhat
discounted rate. However I have noticed a difference between the
gold reference and the gold towers to me the towers are a little to bright
the reference seem to be much smother and result in less ear fatigue at high
volumes. Positioning has a extreme effect on these speakers more so than
some others I have listened to, focusing the speakers in on the listening
area several times should result in optimum sound. As to the constuction it
is a bit shaudy but what do you expect for the price real wood dont be a
dumbass please! I feel the design is very unique and the footprint is very
small in contrast to the sound produced. By the way I have listened to
these speakers next to klipsh and NHT's and personally contrasting price to
sound there can be no better speaker for the money. My star rating is
subject to relative value versus listening pleasure. However if your hung
up on build quality then maybe you should consider a pair of thiels, no
speaker is put together better in my opinion but your going to pay for it!

These speakers are Awesome !!!I just purchased a pair for use as rear channels in my home theater set up. I have the Aerogels as mains, the Classic Gold center, and an RBH subwoofer.
For $895 retail they are a steal. I paid about $600 for the pair. That is a crime considering that they kick the buttocks out of any speaker from B&W, Paradigm, Energy, Klipsh and NHT. I parked these speakers side by side with the B&W DM 603S2 and the Pinnacle Reference absolutely kicked the crap out of those oil can B&W's. I couldn't believe the difference, honestly. I was not expecting 2 speakers in the same price point to sound so differently.
While the finish is nice but not great on the Pinnacles, the sound quality more than makes up for it. I care little about appearance and more about performance. The Pinnacle Reference are the clear winners here for sure!

I agree, these speakers rock. They throw off such a nice soundstage and have incredibly deep bass for its given cabinet size and driver compliment. They are well worth their retail price. I give 5 starts based on performance/price 4 stars on build quality and 5 stars based on customer service from Pinnacle.

Strength:

Exciting, detailed sound with excellent bass, open midrange and smooth high (but see comments!)

Weakness:

needs careful set up and matching equipment. Used thin speaker wire. Grille to loose attached to speaker

When I bought my speakers I was somewhat dissapointed: the bass was limited and booming, the midrange was 'shouting' and the high was sharp and colored.
Replacing my vintage Yamaha 810 amplifier by a NAD 314 improved the sound and specially adding DH-Labs Interconnect and DH-Labs speaker cable (replacement of Monstercable) upgradedmy speakers a lot. Now the sound was quite nice: better bass controll, more open sound stage and sweeter treable. Replacing my (not so old) Sony CDP 500 CD player by the fabulous Njoe Tjoeb 4000 (tube) CD player upgraded my system to a whole new level. Now my system sounds perfect with rock solid bass, very open, detailed midrange and exciting, but never harsh, treable. The speakers need carefull set up, specially because of the large ducts at the rear of the speaker.

I have good experences with customer service: An accident with a glass table deestroyed my tweeter and grille. The customer service rep was very friendly and within a week I had my replacement parts. The build quality could be a notch better, but the accident with my speaker left big holes is my drywall and only a small scratch on the speaker cabinet.

I'm now very satisfied with my (modest) system and I would give 5 stars for the value and 4 stars for build quility, but overall I think the Pinnacle gold ref. is a great speaker (with the right equipment a location).
