I picked up a pair after first reading about the PN8. I did not likethe PN8 that much, but then I listened to the PN5+ and could not believe
the clarity and presence of these units.
Like any small speaker, they are best positioned close to ear level.
I put them on top of my old big&cheap Technics (cabinets slightly modified), which were the "stands", and connected them to the secondary speaker output on the amp.
The bass is lacking, but they will handle power quite well. In fact too well, since one day I got too brave and killed the tweeters in the process.
For a long time I used them with the Technics together (A+B), without a crossover. The sound was not "mushy", as you would expect. In fact, it was more precise than some recent (expensive) tower speakers I've heard. This setup gave way to custom made speakers with a bass larger than life... not due to any deficiency.
They are definitely bright and well suited for a full-range CD sound. Most impressive with Jazz, but do justice to classical as well.
If you listen to music at less than ear-piercing levels and have space for a subwoofer, these speakers would deliver great sound.
And for the used price...
