These do an excellent job for raw volume on my high-passed amplifier. With them high-passed (bass filter) at 100 Hz at 12 db/oct, these speakers shine once attenuated on the high end. They are also constructed like tanks. Surprisingly very heavy for their size.

Bass isn't anything special from a 5" (then again, it's a 5")...Vocals don't have enough high end w/out tonal adjustment. The matching between the mid and tweet weren't engineered very well. Extremely inefficient - they live up to their 84db efficiency rating ---Definitely power hungry.

These are fine at the herrendous price I got them at (63$ shipped) from an error on a website - However, although they handle the power and distribute the volume like champs, I would recommend these only as sorround speakers if that and only if you can get them for under 150$. If you want a similar product that's MUCH better, get some klipsch quintet's - In a comparison w/one klipsch and one pioneer hooked up and playing a saxophone track at extremely high volumes (dial turned almost all the way over) - the quintet's are of almost equal volume with the pioneers. However, when you fade to the pioneers, you can tell exactly where the sound's coming from. When the balance was turned to the klipsch's the WHOLE ROOM was lit-up w/the warm sound from the tweeters on those. Overall, if you can get them cheap, they're wonderful for theatre/sorround purposes, but put your money into some nicer product w/the cash that these demand most of the time (around $180/set on the web). I give overall 4 stars just b/c with my reciever high-passed these speakers get SO loud - they handle the pressure well - that and - they do come in a set of 3 identical speakers.

I heard this as a package of 5 with the S-W200 sub at the time when most places were having a hard time getting in DVD players. The S-CR505 consists of a 1" tweeter/5" midrange standing about 10" tall, Pioneer claims in can handle 160w and has a frequency range of 55-35K hz (though it did bass good, I don't know if it can go the 35K since my hearing isn't that good). The source material was the LD version of Top Gun which I don't remember which type of LD player but it was hooked up to the Pioneer VSX-D906S (IMHO the best Pioneer AVR I personally heard considering I have heard two Elites which really were no better). These speaker was very clean for their size projecting a field of sound that made me constantly check to see if it was these monitors or the MB Quarts floor model beneath them (these were incredible if you consider that they were in a room about 20' X 25' X 12' with an open archway toward the store front entrance room which in itself was also similarly sized, though the sub sounded quite weak maybe being too small for such an area as most subs would). I think these are the type of speakers that should be considered for mini-monitor based hometheater and I will rate them for theater because though they sounded very well with Kenny Loggins (Highway to the Danger Zone), though for hometheater they do need a sub (but don't most non-power towers?).

Great sound! Good sounding bass for such a small speaker. An over-all excellant reproduction of sound. Guitar strings sound incredible, it's like the guitarist is playing right there in your living room.
