Strength:
depending on the dvd/cd, the subs can be turned off, as these polks have enough low extension detail. the midrange is quite precise and forward.the soundstageis very wide in my 18 X 13 ft rm. although, the depth of the soundstage's presence lacks a little compared to the phase techs. this is a subtle diff.
Weakness:
ok ok i know there are better speakers!! but...@ $100.00 dollars, each!!! and , I LIKE THEM!! I LOVE THE MUSIC THAT IS PRODUCED BY THESE POLK R50S!! SO THERE!!! these polk r50s were a deal, $100 each & i didn't even need stands, as they are 36" floor standers with two 6 1/2" drivers & a 3/4" soft dome tweeter. compared them to $2000.00 pair of phase techs my friend has. the phase techs are too warm sounding for me. he bought them used for $1000.00/pr. however, for 1/5th of the price,i'll take my polks. i hear more from the polks! even if the phase techs are more forgiving... Strength:
Crisp high end and just enough low end to turn the sub off. Instrument separation is awesome! I was never able to hear the bass guitar as a separate instrument until now!
Weakness:
None for the price. If you want to be picky you might ask for better quality grills. These are awesome speakers for the price! Sound quality is excellent and rivals that of more expensive speakers. I think Polk has very distinguishable low end bass that I happen to like. Let face it, everyone's ear is different, so how could there be a one size fits all speaker. You just have to buy what sounds good to you! Similar Products Used: 10 year old Bostos Acoustics A120's. Still have them and still love them. Superb speakers but weak on bass. Passive radiator just doesn't do it. But so clean! |

Strength:
Solidly built - heavy chasis. Good range in high, mid, and low. Clear sound reproduction. Attractive design. 5 year warranty. Excellent price (199 each). Long base seperates the speaker from the carpet.
Weakness:
Needs a seperate subwoofer for hard bass. Handles high volume well as long as the levels are at stock - adding bass distorts. Good sound for the price, crisp bass and sharp treble. Equivalant to the Boston and Klipsh versions. Much better than Sony, KLH, and JBL's. Not as awesome a speaker as the highest end ones. The bass can distort a little when pushed hard, but the mid and high hang on well. Not the speaker for shaking the house and waking the neighbors, but a great speaker for acurate sound and normal listening. Strength:
Powerful, realistic sound Good bass extension Dual 6.5" woofers sound great
Weakness:
Better in home theater setup than a stereo setup Polk name These are part of my first home theater system, and I have been rather pleased so far. I know that these are certainly not the greatest speakers out there, but for the money I couldn't find better towers. I audidioned speakers at all of the local home theater stores, big box stores, and all in between. These fit within my budget, and had a very full sound that fit well in my small living room. I'm very happy with their definition on anything I play - including CDs, DVD video, and DVD-Audio discs. These work well with my other Polk speakers in a 5.1 setup, although I'm feeling like I'm almost ready to drop some money on speaker upgrades, simply because I know that I can find something even more wonderful. I would recommend these speakers to anyone looking to spend ~$500 for a pair of tower speakers Similar Products Used: Polk Csi30 center Polk Fxi500 surrounds Denon 3803 receiver Toshiba DVD 4700 Denon DCM 380 Denon DP 29F turntable Denon DRW-585 Cassette Deck |
