I have a pair of RT12. I was more than happy when I first got them. For the price, they are a great pair! Bass is wonderfull, power ports work really great. In time and becoming more critic I would prefer more high detail

I've had a pair of RT12's for over a year. Although they aren't perfect, I'd say they were well worth the 450 I paid for them. The only complaint I have is the tweeters. They're great at lower levels, but after about 11 o'clock on the volume they start to sound a little worse. The bass is amazing for the size of the speaker, and they can handle a good amount of power. If your really into music though, I would recomend getting a subwoofer. I (temporarily) have a pair of the NHT1259's, and even with a crappy crossover, they seem to blend together pretty well.
You'll never get sick of listening to music if you get these speakers.

After reading all of your reviews, I made my own. I recently owned a pair of RT-12's, a CS-250 center, RT-5 surrounds, and a Polk sub all powered by a 750W Classe THX 5-channel amp and a Classe digital processor. The Polk RT-12's seemed a little shaky to me. The crossovers are _ _ _ _! Actually, I bought my own crosses, put them in and my Polk's had performed better, but still not the cleanest. My advise......spend the extra money and get the RT2000's

These speakers have excellent dynamics and have a vivid presentation, this makes them suitable for rock/pop music.
when switching to acoustic jazz and classical they revealed
unlistenable colorations, extending as you crank up the volume.
these are 5-star for rock/pop but only 2 star for hi-fi.
classical fans - try a more delicate speaker like B&W 602.

the good:easy listening- not harsh, i can listen for hours without feeling knives cutting into my ears.
good low frequencies
midrange ok
the bad:
not exotic
not lively-somewhat thin sounding, flat
tweeter is not 'liquid'
vocal range seems a little muted-not great for home theater
equivalent BA speakers sound so much livelier, bigger soundstage
i thought these should be better (esp. at discount)
but others sound better. I know that Polk has redesigned
them. They should have put in a real midrange and their
trilaminate tweeter- my aftermarket car speakers have better
mids and highs so this is dissapointing-
no longer made, anyway

Best Speaker ever made for under a $1000.00 The Polk RT12 does it all. Plays both in surrond sound and music just as well. Paid $725.00 on ebay for the speakers, not a bad price and value for the money. Polk hit the jackpot with this Speaker!

Pure ear "CANDY" The Polk RT12 are a great looking speaker that matches speaker in the $2000 price range note for note. Lows are fast and thunderous. Midrange are silky smooth and the hi's are clear and steady. all in all these speakers are a steal for the price Polk charged fot these fine speakers!!!

I went the local good guys to listen the RT12 and energy C8. I don't think
RT12 is a better than C8. I think C8 is more dynamic and clean. But C8 is
a little high. RT12 has better male vocal, and C8 has better female vocal.
RT12 is a good speaker for its price. my opinion only.
