Strength:
Perfect sound except for the lows (about 50HZ and under).
Weakness:
Distorts some vocals only whden played VERY loud This speaker is a big bang for the buck. I have had them for about a year now and no problems at all. I use them bi-wired to a Yamaha receiver (A&B terminals). They produce the clearest sound and your ears will be ringing before you hear distortion when you crank them. Strength:
sound quality, construction, value
Weakness:
none The more I listen to these speakers the more I am impressed with their sound. I have done a side by side comparison to my Klipsch Epic CF-2's (which cost considerably more $)and am amazed at how well these little speakers stack up - especially at high volume. I can hear details in the bass instrument that is not apparent in the Klipcsh. I plan on using these in a home theater that I have not yet finished. For the money I am very happy. Don't think you can't go wrong with these. Similar Products Used: Klipsch Epic CF-2, Bose 501 (circa 1979). Also compared Aegis, PSB, and KEF |

Strength:
very musical, good imaging, wide soundstage
Weakness:
none When I first hooked these speakers up, they sounded Horrible! Boomy, boxy bass, and overall muddy sound. I thought about returning them but decided to try biwiring them first. I used some cheap lampcord. What a difference! The boxiness was gone. And they sounded much more detailed. Then I bought a pair of monster MCX-IS biwire cables. Oh my god! These speakers sound excellent. Don't use cheap cables! Similar Products Used: Paradigm, B&W, Infinity, Acoustic Research |

Size, build, looks, and Sound
Weakness:
Package weight, I had to carry these for a 1/4 of a mile, and that wasn't fun. (Pakage weight was 76lbs) I recieved these speakers a couple weeks ago. I got these because I didn't like the way my Acoustic Research Ar15's were sounding with my Acoustic Research 112PS subwoofer. Plus it was time to upgrade again. After the long haul up to my dorm room with this heavy package, I took them out and marveled at thier size and build. They are very deep, deeper than my friends AR towers. Plus they weight a lot for thier size. I bi-amped them to my Technics SA-DA8N (soon to be changed to a Marantz SR8200), and they sounded great. I had to do some ajustments, but they blend 10 times better with my sub than the AR's did. I am very happy with this purchase, I can't wait to get rid of my other AR speakers and replace them all with Polk. Similar Products Used: Technics, Sony, Acustic Research |

Strength:
Can handle the Watts.. Excellent punch
Weakness:
Polk can use a little design help as far as the cabinets go. Polk is very basic design. The lack of knowledge by the Audio staff at Circuit City.. So do your homework I am using the rt55 X 4 as my home theater system. with Sub and center. They are connected to a Onkyo 777.. and can handle everything the Onkyo puts out. I did a very extensive listening with all competetors and my personal opinion was that for the money Polk Audio blew away the Bose, Infinity, and others. Similar Products Used: bose Lifestyle. |

Strength:
Great imaging capability, creates real soundstage, Small so you can stack them up, let there be no doubt bright not reserved
Weakness:
No bass need subwoofer What a great speaker for its price. I use them as mains now stacked 4 high on the left and right. You need an amp that can handle low impedance, B&K Sonata monoblocks, but it creates a soundstage that is staggering. 8 6" woofers and 4 tweeters on each side. The wife heard it the first time and jumped it sounded like the players were in the room. I like classical and some vocals and prefer a Rega turntable. She's heard me swap out many different speakers but this one got the first immedate reaction from her. I used her in A-B ing with the Magnepans and the puny Polks simply created a louder, more detailed and larger soundstage--from the floor to ceiling. The image is easily apparentm, not finicky like th Maggies. I use an Audible Illusion Modulus tube preamp which has the reputation of creating a remarkable soundstage. Your buying excellent drivers, stripped down, not the best not dynaudio quality, but still very good. I just auditioned in a high-end shop the Vienna Acoustics Mozart at $2500 and I smiled--I heard a very reserved thin sound no image to speak of. Use your own ears. Strength:
Good musicality, bass is adequate, high-quality manufacturing, low cost. 2x binding posts for bi-amping!
Weakness:
I have noticed that the voice reproduction of these speakers is lacking. I used these for a short time as my only speakers (FL & FR) and I do not recommend this because they need a center channel speaker to accurately produce voices. I have not/nor would I try to mount these on a wall, eventhough they come with a power port that you could mount. Needs lots of power. These are good speakers for the buck. They are by no means the best available, however if you like Polk, they are pretty much the same as a few of Polk's tower models for a lot less expensive. Its the RT600 or RT800 that is exactly the same drivers, they can just produce a tad bit lower frequencies due to the size of the tower. Bi-amp these bad boys for better sound.
