Strength:

SDA circuitry for clarity & image stabilty.
Bass extension to an honest 25 hz.
High sensitivity - 92 dB/w/m
Butyl rubber surrounds on woofers - no foam rot here!
Large dia. passive radiator- no port noise artifacts.
Warm, well-balanced sound - no boom or screech.
Low listener fatigue.
Built like a tank. Tweeters fused for protection.
500 watt clean power handling on music program material.
Genuine wood veneer available(mine are walnut).
Binding Post speaker terminals.
Built-in pedestal base.

Weakness:

Big & heavy - a deal breaker for some people (until they hear them!)
Low impedence balance requires an amp comfortable with high current demands.
Designed to be used with grill on for anti-difraction - not a big deal.
Other speakers more revealing but for a lot more money.
Note: none of these are really weaknesses, just facts of life. Worth it to get sound
this good!

I've owned these since 1984 & still love them. Incredible build & sound quality. The
SDA circuitry adds clarity to the sonic image. Bass extension to an honest 25 hz.,
still better than vast majority of speakers on the market. The low bass adds a rich-
ness to the material that has it, yet is never boomy or overdone. Every frequency
is in balance with the others - no part of the spectrum calls attention to itself. 92 dB
sensitivity, so it's not a power hog, but the impedence drops into the 3 ohm range,
so it loves a high-current amp. I upgraded from a Yamaha RX495 receiver (70 wpc)
to a Yamaha A1000 integrated (120 wpc) and the sound improved noticeably, with
better bass extension and a more unstrained, effortless quality. I can listen for
hours with zero listener fatigue, even at substantial volumes.
There may be more revealing speakers available but the cost would be a lot more,
especially if the speaker also has comparable bass extension. At $200-300 on the
used market, these are an absolute steal! At full retail new, I still got incredible
value for the money. Recommended!

Strength:

The handeling of all frequencies efficiently...the clear tones and ability to make any style of music sound natural...in my case when paired up with speakers that tend to compensate for the bottom end they are fully complimented

Weakness:

I'm not entirely sure they have weaknesses but rather were designed to sound natural (ie:without excessive mid or bottom end)

I just recently purchased these incredible speakers at a fleamarket for the paltry sum of $45.00 pr.(US), knowing full well that I was getting a fantastic deal. I 'm using them as one of the two sets of front speakers for a 5.1 surround configuration, the other front speakers (vintage Criterion 90, 5 -way) having an even larger woofer to round out the missing low end and mids. I'm using a small set of Bose bookshelf speakers for centering and a modest set of Pioneers for the rear. The amp driving these is a JVC RX-558V, which seems to do the job quite well. Aside from the fact that the speakers have sustained some timeworn minor damage (mostly in places that wouldn't be noticable) they are fully intact and working well. Most notably, they sound excellent, even at low levels.

Quality Sound Looks

Weakness:

Two things come to mind when I think about these speakers. Quality and Sound perfection. I have owned these speakers for close to 13 years. They are in tip top shape. These speakers are quality built. They also sound like they were brands new. I really enjoy the sound of these speakers. I have them hooked up with a small subwoofer next to them to give a little more bass punch. For 2 channel music, they can't be beat. Listening to classical music on these speakers sound like your in the middle of a concert. Can't say enough about these speakers.

Strength:

Imaging/Sound Stage, Clarity, Above-average Efficiency, Goog Looks(oak cabinets)

Weakness:

Can be kind of bright/harsh on some recordings at higher volume; Bass response is good, but not great; Kind of Big

I bought my SDA-2As new in 1987 and still have them. I recently auditioned some of Polk Audio's newest high-end line, the LSi series, including the LSi-15 and 7 with subwoofer. It quickly reminded me of just how good my old SDAs still sound. I've always felt like the SDA sounstage is very realistic. It's not contrived/hokie like some speakers. Some recordings seem to make the speakers disappear. These speakers have very good clarity - minute details stand out. They also have very good balance. One instrument doesn't stand out at the expense of another one. They're pretty efficient - I drove mine with a 65 w/ch Denon receiver for years with very satisfactory results. If I had it to do over again, I would have sprung the extra bucks and got the SDA-1s - they don't suffer from the occasional mid-range harshness and have a little better bass response - but I've, nonetheless, enjoyed these speakers for a long time.

Imaging is fantastic quality and sound

Weakness:

Let me give you a little background on my speakers. They are the SDA-2B's. They are hooked up to my Adcom amp and Denon CD player. That is all I have in my 10x15x9 room. I also have 1 chair sitting in the middle rear of the room. All my audiophile friends are astonished by the sound quality and imaging of these speakers. I have these speakers wired with kimber 8TC's. They are magnificent. When I listen to these speakers, it sounds like I am in the middle of a concert. The artist is on stage with the band in the background. These speakers are superb. I have owned these speakers for the better part of 10 years. I purchased these speakers from an old friend, who at the time didn't know what he had. He loved the sound that these speakers produced, but wanted something bass heavy. These speakers are not. They produce ample bass for my needs, but I suppose a seperate subwoofer is ok. I like the richness and fullness of these speakers. The sound tremendous with jazz music.

Strength:

Sounds quality sonic prescence appearance-although large and bulky

Weakness:

I won several pairs of Polk SDA's. I am very happy with the sonic clarity and the imaging that these speakers produce. This is my third pair. I also own a pair of the SDA-1C's and a pair of SDA-CRS's. The 1C's have more drivers, but I think that these 2-B's sound just as good. If you can get a pair...I would. You can't go wrong. These speakers are awesome!
