Weakness:

-.-

Best speakers around for the price. I used B&W CDM 7, Elac, Heco, Hgp speakers. Against the ProAc's they all sounded like Shoe-Boxes!

Strength:

Great finish, wife pleasing design. Great sound in a relatively long, skinny and bright room. Tried B&W CDM7 but a little too unforgiving for my taste in music. Live music, blues and more sophisticated rock sounds outstanding. The extra chestiness perfect for a rather average set of components. I absolutely love them.

Weakness:

Price. For the money, it just seems like there should be more than just a small tweeter and driver. How do they do it? Hard to get placement right and spikes chewed up the hardwood floor.

Try these out if you can find them. Take a Dire Straits, Lyle Lovett live and a bluesy female artist with to audition.

Strength:

soundstage, accurate production of chorus and human voice, and the drama it adds to classical music

Weakness:

it lacks the bite and impact of its rivals in special types of electronic music which I rarely listen

I mainly listen to classical music and jazz. Searching for a neutral, natural loudspeaker is a tricky process. I bought a AV receiver (TX DS 777 Onkyo) for dvd and video mainly and my wife was very happy with the receiver and the added Pioneer 515 DVD player. I am not interested in TV DVD and video etc, for me hi-fi is the priority. In several shops I listened several equipment and loudspeakers. What I looked after was the realistic reproduction of the piano, cello and violin sound. While in Ýstanbul (thanks to lotus hi-fi, the Turkey dealer of pro-ac.) after a short listening period of several types of music I realized that evreka!. Proac's were hooked to Krell 300 amplifier and a matching krell CD player. I first thought that it would be an overkill to match these lovely speakers with the onkyo receiver and pioneer dvd player, but it worked perfectly.
There is a midbass excess but it adds significant drama and impact to classical material and operas. Listening to chamber music and jazz is a real delight with the Proac 125. Between 1000-2000$ you cannot get better hi fidelity whatever the source and amplification you use.
