PSB Speakers Image 6T Floorstanding Speakers

PSB Speakers Image 6T Floorstanding Speakers

DESCRIPTION

This powerful combination of three 6.5-inch woofers and the Image tweeter takes the impact of music and movies to peak levels. It is hard to imagine any likely use in any likely home listening/viewing room that will stress this speaker or cause it to lose any of its "you are there" detail. This is a speaker for high demands, even in big listening rooms.

Sound!! Looks,quality,biwireable,price,etc.....

Weakness:

none so far.

I love these speakers!! I have only had them for about a week but just love them more and more each day! They just fill my livingroom with sound, and GOOD sound. I think they take a little time to break in and speaker placement is critical, so take your time and get your room set up right. I bought an all PSB set up and couldn't be happier. The lows from these bad boys will knock your socks off! The mid's and high's are great. I have been playing cd's that I haven't listened to in years, all over again. I am so glad that I discovered PSB. The quality is great for the money.
If you want great sounding speakers for about half of what you thought you were gona have to spend get the PSB's! I am very happy with mine. My system consists of the following:

Fronts: PSB 6t's
Center: PSB 9c(also excellent!!)
Rears: PSB 2b's(also excellent!!)
Sub: PSB Subsonic 6(Very good)
Receiver: Marantz SR-19 (Love it!!)
DVD/CD: Tosh 2100
TV: Tosh 36"
Cables: Ultralink

Weakness:

For the price, these speakers are very good. I'm still breaking them in but have already noticed that they are smoother than when new. The bass is very good for 6.5 inch drivers and the mid and highes keep up very well. I would find it difficult to match the sound quality of these speakers with any others in this price range. I liked the B&W NT series but just couldn't justify the added expense. I'm using these speakers for approx. 30% music and the rest for home theater.
The only drawback I can see, and it doesn't concern me because I have a large rear projection TV, is the depth of the cabinet. The depth might cause issue if using a DLP, LCD, or plasma! That would be the only drawback I could foresee with the 6T.

Strength:

The most impressive review is from my girlfriend who cant tell the difference between a DVD and a VHS copied from a television broadcast. We both noticed a major improvement from my old JBL 1000's. First, the bass responce is impressive for any speaker, but more so from one with 3 6.5" drivers. The bottom most driver is crossed at 500 Hz lending to somewhat natural bass with The deftones, coltrane, Miles Davis and even bass heavy hip-hop. The mids are very strong and natural, and when the speakers are placed correctly the sound blends to the center of the plane. The tweeter is mellow, no ear braising high hats or artificial digital snare, just a balanced with the mids wall of sound. Very realistic. The speakers look great and as mentioned are very big, especially deep. They shine in a home theater setting. I dought youll need a sub with these unless you have 15 inck Kickers in your car, and that floats your boat.

Weakness:

I need a more powerful amp. My 5X 60 watt DENON is struggling even when bi-wired. I can hear the amp clipping at ~50% volume. You need to drive these puppies.

These speakes are an insane value even at list price. They are not perfect but are far superior to what circuit city or good guys has to offer at any price.

Strength:

Awesome Appearance and build quality, and smooth top end

I saw these speakers on the net and they looked so impressive that I had to listen to them. I went to their web site and found dealers nearby. They look as awesome as they sound. These speakers are made of Hometheatre. I think that they are the best mix for HT and for music. They don't have the midrange of the NHT SuperTwos but they have an awesome top-end. I was sold on aluminum tweeters after this. For music one can probably find another speaker for the same cash but I don't think that one can find a better speaker that works as well with HT AND music as the PSB Image series
The 6T makes for an awesome front pair of speakers for a HT.

Strength:

Full-range, appearance, highs, mids, lows, quality, separate enclosures for each woofer

Weakness:

none

These speakers are incredible. Even if i hadn't payed 600/pair, they are definately worth their price at retail. In this price range, nothing compares. I was quite impressed with this speakers to pound out low tones from only a set of 6.5" woofers. The mids in this speaker aren't muddled; listen to jbl if you want to hear muddled.

The highs are incredibly clear and precise, the mids are crisp, and the lows are deep and up-front. These speakers are quite deep and develop one hell of a boom.

My System:
Yamaha RX-V596 Receiver (very good)
PSB 500 rears (used to be my mains, but very good)
PSB Status Subsonic 7 (insane)

I recommend these speakers to anyone looking for a good, full-range, non-powered main tower. They work good for all types of music and are excellent for home theatre.

If you are skeptical of these speakers, please go listen to them, they are insane.

Muddled Mids

I've been in the process of evaluating speakers for the past 3 months. Listend to Paradigm, NHT, Energy, PSB. I REALLY liked the 5Ts, even after listening to the Stratus Bronze. The Stratus Bronze was definitely warmer and had more detailed mids. So it was with great anticipation that I waited for the 6Ts. I really wanted to like them. I thought the 5Ts were a HUGE improvement over the 4Ts...I would expect a similar incremental increase in the 6Ts.

The 5Ts were definitely not as good as the Stratus Bronze...but they were half the price. The 6Ts were being sold at $999 so only a few hundred less than the Stratus. I found them to have lots of bass...but the mids were not as detailed. If you're on a budget, I would opt for the 5Ts because the imaging is significantly greater (IMHO) and subwoofer will give you all the bass you will need (i.e. Subsonic 6). Otherwise, I would seriously recommend the Stratus Bronze over the 6T. Not nearly as much bass, but much warmer and more detailed.

I noticed similar results when comparing the Paradigm Monitor 9s to the Paradigm Reference 60's in that the M9s had a lot of bass but not as much detail or warmth. There you go...my two devalued centavos.

Take it with a grain of salt because your mileage may vary. (I love mixing metaphors!)

Strength:

Smooth, wide freq. response, broad & deep soundstage, transparency, power handling.

Weakness:

Very revealing!

The 6T is an exceptional speaker, particularly when found for a 'bargain' price. As noted in some other reviews here, the aluminum dome tweeter should break in for a while and will result in a very sweet, musical presentation. I had been using speakers with assertive horn tweeters, and I now realize that the resultant bright sound can be fatiguing. This speaker has tight, punchy bass response due to the multiple driver array. I've been pleasantly surprised by the amount of solid low end that the hard-working 6-1/2" woofers put out. The 6Ts present a very detailed, open soundstage...when the source material provides it. The only thing about a speaker this transparent is that it reveals what is too often lacking in lesser recordings and subpar electronics. This is by no means a weakness on the part of the 6T, but rather a penalty one pays for buying poorly-produced cds and inferior electronics. In HT, the Image Series is equally impressive. I've teamed the 6T front L/R with a 9C center and 2Bs for surround and I couldn't be more happy. Still shopping for a sub (I like the Hsu VTF-2), and not entire sure I need one! For the record, the 9C and 2B models are just as impressive as the 6T, in their respective classes. A very nice suite of loudspeakers!
My humble system is comprised of the above speakers driven by the NAD T770 A/V receiver, a Phillips DVD-711 for DVD & CD (really a very competant unit for <$200), a seldom-used Yamaha casette deck, and an old Sharp Hi-Fi VCR (who cares?!?). All connected with AR 'Pro Series' interconnects (good for the low $), and Ixos & Apature speaker cabling.

Strength:

Wonderful bass,beautiful design,room-filling sound

Weakness:

A tad fuzzy with some New age electronic music and some full- orchestra classical

This review is from a music lover point of view...I don't pretend to know much about the technical side of audio gear...but I am sure there are plenty of people who just want glorious music like me...It *is* possible for a woman
to care about the quality of music she listens to!
I listen mostly to classical music...and I have found that the intensity of the richness and fullness of these speakers
varies a bit from cd to cd...it is most likely the recording , I would assume...
Piano and acoustic guitar "sing"....and are reproduced with clarity and beauty...full ordchestra varies from
full , room filling sound(I was surprised some reviews cited lack of bass...when I played "Fanfare for the Common Man...I was almost knocked into orbit)... and I have heard nuances I had never heard in these recordings before...
Some of my older CD's have a bit of a haze , but in no way disrupts the beauty of these speakers...
I plan on upgrading my Sony receiver at some point and hope that these small quibbles will be lessend...
Until then....I have done justice to my passion for beautiful music...
