If you’re thinking about buying PSB please read on about my recent PSB customer service experience. I own PSB Stratus Bronze fronts that I purchased 14 months ago, along with PSB Century 300i rears, and a C5i center that I recently purchased. A while ago the veneer on the front right speaker began to peel up and curl in such a way that it could not be glued back down and still cover the cabinet. Wanting the speaker fixed, my customer service nightmare with PSB began, throughout which my wife and I kept a journal. It reads as follows: (information in brackets is added to original content to avoid confusion) Jan 28:Email K. Pritchard @ PSB (with info regarding problem) given info to call. Call 1-800-263-4641 ext. 4201 (as instructed) Talk to J. Wideman @11am and give situation re: speaker veneer peeling. He calls back later that day with directions to ship to Pickering location. Tells us he will put a rush on the repair and that we would hear from PSB the next week regarding the status of the speaker. Feb 03:Ship out speaker, email J. Wideman about it. Feb 04:PSB receives the speaker and signs for it. Feb 18:Email J, Wideman about status of speaker because have heard nothing. No Reply. Feb 21:Leave message @ 1-800-263-4641 ext. 4201 about situation and inquire about status of speaker. No Reply. Feb 23:Morning, call 1-800-263-4641 ext. 4201 and talk to L. Tells me she is looking into it, going to talk to the technician assigned to them. Will call us back. No Reply @11:30am. 4pm we call back L., put on hold, then told she will call back in a few minutes. No Reply. 5pm we call back L., not answering phone, try till 5:20. (office open till 5:30) Call service manager at a PSB dealership, ask him to try to find out about speakers, give him info. (Great guy, we did not even buy the speakers from him) Feb24: @1:30pm try calling L., no answer. 2pm talk to L., informs me she is waiting to hear from PSB international, referred to some email she received from them. Apologized profusely for not calling back and the run-around. Will let us know by end of the week about repair. 4pm PSB dealer calls back with more details, says he talked to Paul Barton himself. They are replacing the cabinet of the speaker. If we don’t hear back from them (PSB) by Friday, call him back to call Paul Barton again. Feb 27:Try calling L. from 12:15pm to 1:30pm, no answer. Call Dealer back, he will call them and find out what he can, he will call us back. Dealer calls back, tells us they said it should be in by next Thursday (which is March 04, this dealer has been so helpful and selfless, will definitely buy future products from them ‘The StereoMan’ in Woodstock Ontario). Mar 04:No speaker. Call L. from 2pm to 2:30pm, finally get in touch, ask about speaker status, she says she will call back in 30 minutes. No Reply. Call L. back @3:20pm, say s no one has returned her calls about out speaker. I ask her to please find out about the speaker as we were told last week it would be here by now. She said she would find out for us and call us back. No Reply. Call L. back @4:20, leave message about contacting someone else to find out about our speaker (as we still don’t know the status of the repair or what is happening to our expensive speaker). 4:20pm call and leave a message with Paul Barton himself (the owner and designer for PSB Speakers) asking for info on our speaker. (ext. withheld) Mar 05:Paul Barton calls back and leaves a message on our voice mail @9:30am. He informs us that he will find out what is going on and that PSB will get back to us today. No Reply. 4:30pm we call L., she stated she spoke with Paul about getting our speaker. Put on hold to call (warehouse?), gets no answer. Asks if she can call us back while she goes and checks on speaker, we ask to wait on hold instead. Informs us that the speaker is ready to ship. Will ship it Monday (March 08) by Purolator and that we should have it by Tuesday, maybe Wednesday. We informed her of our busy schedule and she said she would call us when it was shipped to make arrangements. Mar 10:(Wednesday) No speaker or call from PSB. 4:20pm leave message with L. and Paul Barton about terrible service and current situation and ask to be called back. 4:30pm (after calling every number we could get a hold of) we talk to another PSB representative C. She tells the speaker has been shipped and gives us a tracking number. Mar 11:No speaker or call back from PSB @5pm. Call Purolator and they have no idea where our speaker is, launch investigation. Call PSB and leave messages regarding situation. Mar 12:Finally, Purolator finds our speaker, we get to pick it up at 6:30pm. We examined the inner packaging, and find it has no piercing, so the damage must have occurred prior to shipping. So we again find ourselves in the same situation we were six weeks ago. We have a damaged PSB speaker that needs to be repaired.

i love the bronzes, i had a set about 4 years ago when they first came out but sold them and bought the PSB Image5t nice but not as great as the Bronze. I have now finally sold my 5t's and bought a new set of PSB Bronze and love them. i don't have room for a subwoofer right now but the bronzes fill in bass perfectly. i will however be looking at either the new Sub6 or Sub7. nothing but good things to say about all PSB speakers. a great buy ay 1150.00 Cnd

Will show shortcomings in sources but that's the price you pay for detail. Mid-bass can sometimes have a little too much weight

They're not forward (which I consider a plus) with highs. They're much more attuned to accuracy.

I had no intention of buying PSBs. I went to a high-end audio shop in D.C. prepared to bay twice as much. But a friendly guy there overlooked his commission and suggesed I give these a listen. I've been thrilled since. I've driven them with two amps -- an NAD and a Rotel, and I can promise you that you won't find such impressive, uncolored sound for anywhere near the price. They blew away speakers costing more than twice as much, and after four years, I'm just enjoying them more and more.

Bought these speakers primarily based on price. I was concerned about the quality of the boxes but they sounded so good in the store I couldn't leave without them. I hooked them up to my old luxman equipment with the cheap speaker wire the salesman gave me at no charge and they sounded just great. I still think these are great speakers for the price. I have just one complaint. Two weeks after I got them home the laminate started peeling off one of the speakers. It took PSB more than 2 months to ship out a replacement. I would have given you 5 stars PSB if you took better care of your customers.

Sound fills med-large size room quite well. Imaging rivals that from speakers that cost 3-4x the list price of these guys. They look really really good. Their 92db sensitivity requires them to be registered at your local police department as any amplifier can give big sound. 5-way posts allow bi-wiring and bi-amping.

Magnetic shielding is not included on most models, although I hear you can order them with it. Matching Center speaker is very costly. Any other shortcommings of these speakers can only be determined when comparing them to speakers that cost 4,000 dollars and up.

I recently purchased an Onkyo TX SR600 receiver who demanded that I upgrade from my older Technics tower speakers. Like many others, I did not set out to purchase these speakers. I had been listening and considering floorstanding models from Energy, Paradigm, Tannoy, NHT, B&W, Mirage, and Polk. While calling around for prices one day the salesman asked if I had listened to Stratus line from PSB. I hadn''t, so we arranged a meeting. What I found when I got there was a pair of really nice looking speakers. Fairly narrow with a handsome depth and finish that made them look like they were way out of my pricerange. But the real surprise was the sound that came from these striking speakers. I sat at various angles and distances from the speakers and was amazed at how they maintained incredible imaging and sound. I was quite honestly amazed by these staging and bass that the Stratus Bronze were capable of. I was incapable of hearing any hiss or twing in the highs, and the bass sounded well below 30 Hz, but was at no time sluggish or muddy. Mid-range excels on these 2 1/5 way guys and Sinatra sounded simply amazing (I felt I owed him money for the performance). The point of all this is, that to get this caliber of sound quality from another speaker manufacturer one would have to spend 3 to 4 times the amount that the Stratus Bronze sell for (I kinda feel quilty that I didn''t pay 2-3X more). Had I paid twice the price for these speakers I would still brag about the super deal I got. Bottom line, if you listen to these speakers and hear their price, even your girlfriend will want them (maybe you could even get her to buy them). I couldn''t be happier with the performance of PSB''s Stratus Bronze speakers.

Very good highs. Awesome Midrange. Impressive bass for 26.5 woofers. (If you like dance music buy a sub for god sake!) Cabinet very classy, nice for the price. Haters are comparing it to 5000$ speakers cabinet. Keep it sensible.

Well... I wasn''t looking for these speakers. I was looking at the Paradigm studio series, the Energy Veritas series, Thiel''s, B&W 600 series..etc.. All impressive speakers for their price without a doubt. What I found with the PSB Bronze speaker was a beautiful 2 and a half way floor standing speaker for 1300$ CAN with a very impressive naturally neutral yet unboring sound. The highs: crisp, dynamic, natural, without making every high note sound like the Electric Circus. Beleivable! The Mids: fast, smooth, airy yet real. Very acurate. The bass: (keep in mind two 6.5 woofers) To put it simply, it will play the low notes of classic, jazz with a lot of authority. Dance and rock music is represented with adequate amounts of low end, no Klipsch type bass, but very accurate and musical. And can still go very loud to satisfy those twenty something impulses that we all have. You will be impressed with this speaker. Overall it''s a pleasure to listen to. Everyday I come home I look forward to seeing my girlfriend... I really mean my speakers. I can''t lie. Price to performance ratio in the same league as paradigm. Enough said! Peace!

The feet.

Bought these to use in my home office after being very pleased with Silver i''s that I bought 2 years ago. Sound is similar to the silvers and excellent with perhaps slightly less well controlled bass than the silvers. Very detailed and uncolored sound with good imaging. I listened to other speakers which sound as good, but not at this price. Incredible bargain compared to the competition. Rated at 4 ohns but don''t require overwhelming power. Cabinet (I have black ash) is OK and doesn''t look cheap but it''s obvious that the cabinet is one of the main places PSB saved to be able to offer such good sound at the price. However, like the silvers they are unobtrusive looking for their size. The feet are cheap looking and feeling though they attach solidly and the carpet spikes are fine.

Okay, So heres the deal. I had bought a pair of Wharfedale Modus 1.6 from Ubid trying to go cheap. You know how it is when you are a student at a university. Anyway, one came in damaged and the other was perfect. Ubid, after 4 weeks of emails, sent me mailing labels to send them back. Last summer, I went to a local high end theater store and demoed the PSB Stratus Silveri. Boy was I amazed but could not scrap up the $1700 they wanted for them. After returning the Wharfedales to Ubid, I came actoss reliable audio video on the net. They were selling the Stratus Silveri for more than I can still afford right now, but decided to go with the Bronzes being that they have the same tweeter as the Goldi and Silveri, and the price was right! I placed my order on a Thursday night, and I had them by the following Friday afternoon for the weekend! I was worried about shipping damage, but the boxes were thick and also had thick cardboard liners inside! Now, I am upgrading my old 12 year old Kenwood/JVC system one piece at a time. I hooked these up to the Kenwood 2 channel reciever with some cheap Wal-Mart special speaker wire I had running to the JVC towers. Boy did it make that crappy Kenwood sound awesome! I went and bought some 12 gauge monster cable (XP), and biwired them. Just that made the bass tighten up and the highs better!! The imaging on these speakers are awesome as well. There are things I never heard in movies and CD before. The detail got even better when I bought the Adcom GTP 760 (although I am running the preamp out for the fronts into the CD input for the Kenwood until I can buy a good high end amp). Yes I know that these speakers are not the Stratus Goldi or Silveri, or the best speakers you can buy. But when you are really into music and movies as I am, and are just really getting into High end home theater, these are worth the money. Last note, these speakers can sound better. Let me explain. I am 23 years old, and still living with mom and dad while at the local University. I have them set up in our bonusroom over our garage as my second room. There is a lot of furniture in there, but can not seperate the speakers enough. To make these rock, they really need a bigger room to get the best imaging out of them. But they kick but for what I am working with and the price I paid!! I highly recommend these speakers!

Price, performance, imaging, quality

An excellent value/performance combination. The sound is clear and defined. Stereo imaging is very clear, and the audio detailing is outstanding for the price. There is ample bass as a result of the 2 1/2 way design. Like most people I auditioned many speakers, and the PSB out performed most at considerable higher prices. The speakers handled vocals from Sarah McLachlan exceptionally well. The Bass response from Prodigy also performed very well. There are reports that the PSB's are a little bright in the first few months but that is not the case with the Stratus Bronzes. An exceptional speaker at any price.
