Strength:

NONE-> EXCEPT THE TWEETER SEEMS FAIRLY GOOD......AND THEY USED GOOD SIZED CABLE INSIDE

Weakness:

EVERYTHING EXCEPT TWEETER, SOLID WOOD TOP, WOOFER, MIDRANGE, BINDING POSTS, CABINET... ETC

THESE SPEAKERS HAVE MANY PROBLEMS, THIS IS JUST A FOLLOWUP OF MY OLD REVIEW... BUT WE NOTICED 1 GOOD THING AND ABOUT 5 MORE BAD THINGS. THE TWEERTER HAS A GOOD SIZED MAGNET AND WIRE GOING TO IT. THE MIDRANGE BEGINS TO MELT AT HIGH VOLUMES.... THE WOOFER FLAPS HORRIBLY AND ALL THE DRIVERS HEAT UP TO THE POINT WHERE THE BACK OF THE BOX GETS BURNING HOT. WE WERE POWERING THEM WITH LOTS OF POWER AND CLEAN POWER AT THAT.

Demanding load

This section is obviously starting to attract the trolls. Too bad. Note to Bee: try not to plug speakers directly into the electrical outlet. Find Nirvana with your Technics receiver and don't bother sharing your experience.

I listened to an HDCD recording of pianist Mike Garson on the Gold-i (with Acurus & Adcom electronics) and I don't believe I've ever heard any system sound more like a grand piano was actually being played in front of me. (Including the Revel Salon, Thiels, Martin Logan...) Amazing weight and clarity.

The Vandersteen 3A, likewise, is an amazingly musical speaker, possibly more detailed but lacking the speed and ease of the Golds.

But, I can't afford the stratus line (or amps that can power the Gold without clipping) so I auditioned Paradigm, Energy, NHT -- chose the PSB Image 4T.

Strength:

It does everything pretty well. A great home theater speaker.

Weakness:

It doesn't do anything superbly.

I'm considering the PSB Gold i and the C6 center for my home theater system. First off, the PSB Gold i is excellent for home theater. It rolls off the highs a bit, which is an asset to a home theater speaker, because soundtracks are way too bright You also don't really need a subwoofer, as the Gold i goes to about 30 hz. It won't give you bass performance like the best 12", 15", and 18" subwoofers, but it's enough for a medium sized room. The Gold i is also relatively easy to place, and it's a relatively easy load. Of course lots of power never hurts, but it's not essential like with some speakers.

I first listened to the Gold i in a high-end 2 channel system with all BAT gear and Nordost Red Dawn cables. I wasn't particularly overwhelmed, nor was I disappointed. As a music speaker, the PSB is a pretty decent full range speaker for the price. There wasn't much soundstage depth, the midrange was slighly congested, highs were rolled off, imaging wasn't totally solid, bass was loose, there was port "chuffing", and orchestral climaxes overwhelemed it at high volumes, but this is compared to some of the best speakers in the $5000 price range. In it's defense, the Gold i sounded a lot better than many $5000 speakers I've listened to. The Gold i is certainly way above mid-fi gear, but it's not quite up to affordable world class speakers like the more expensive NHT 3.3, Dynaudio Contour 3.3, and the Martin Logan reQuest. Basically, the Gold i doesn't do anything superbly, but it doesn't do anything badly, either. For a home theater speaker, I think it's one of the best choices out there in it's price range. However for music, I personally prefer the NHT 2.9 or the Martin Logan SL3, but he PSB beats these when it comes to home theater applications.

All you want after this is relax andd listen to more CDs. A kind of warm but accurate. Bass is little more overdone. Best speaker you can get under $2k.

I also found the PSB Stratus Gold to be a nice sounding set of speakers butat a similar price, I bought the Thiel CS 1.5's instead. The Gold's were
too "rich" or "warm" in the mid-range and the soundstage and imaging were
not as good as the Thiel CS 1.5's. The Stratus Golds seemed to have a
lower bottom-end but the Thiels were more accurate across the spectrum. If
heavy bass is your thing, think twice before buying the Thiel 1.5's. The
bass is there and its nice and tight but don't expect to shake the walls.
The PSB's may be a better "party" speaker.
Its all a matter of personal preference.

These are marvelous speakers. It made all my live GRP recordings sound so real. The sound seems really wellbalanced and transparent.

The enclosure seems so solid that the music doesn't seem to be coming from a box. They're not cheap but it
seems like they're worth more!

Have had the Goldi's for about two months; had Gold's for over three years prior to them; have true and careful A/B tested them vs.: Von Sch. VR-3, VR-4, Boston A. Lynnfield 500L, Dynaudio Contour 3.3, Totem Mani-2, and Martin Logans!!! Impression/conclusion: although each has a different signature sound, Goldi's are tied for the best for the money against the VR-3's for what is considered "B-Class"! Only if they did not have the mid-range coloration and a bit more controlled bass...even though this is spiliting hairs! My opinion of the Goldi's overall rating: #1 considering the entire "package"...

Strength:

Great fit and finish, Dark Cherry finish, Great sound quality, Awesome value, Canadian EH!!

Weakness:

A tiny bit too much bass, must be gettin old, could also be my room is a little small.

These speakers are running through Bryston 7b's and they image like crazy, they have a very full sound, no sub needed for music, they are very well crafted for the dough. To all you audio sales people go out and get the following: Alison Krauss + Union Station's "New Favorite" CD this Lady's voice is magical, use tracks 13, 10 and 3. Watch you speaker sales go through the roof.
