Strength:
Excellent cabinet, they DO NOT rattle at all. Though vintage looking they look nice. Aren't to big.
Weakness:
Foam surrounds but mine still haven't gone bad. I have had these speakers 6 years myself, My father had them 10 years maybe even a bit longer before I had them. These speakers i will honestly say beat out 90% of your speakers today. They have a crisp clear midrange and an excellent bass. The bass on these are incredible they rattle your rib cage. The bass is so natural instead of a long drowned bass, from oscilation they have a huge Punch. I went to best buy and circuit city and listened to $1500 speakers and they sounded nothing close to these babies. These will not be replaced unless i suddenly become rich and can buy some speakers from definitive research, those are the only one's ive heard better and they are 3500 bucks a pair for their 12's ive only heard their twelves. I still want to hear their towers with 15's. Not many speakers today can Hit the 20 hz low's and 25,000hz high. I've blown so many amps with these, yet they have not blown. Now im currently running a Sony 525 reciever which sounds great with my infinity surround speakers. Only thing that's blown em is my dad's Kenwood 1000 watt Power reciever. Strength:
great sound and seems to be very efficient.
Weakness:
base can get muddy at high volume levels. wow, I can't believe that I am not alone in singing the praise of this speaker. I am currently shopping for a new a/v receiver, as my 2 year old pioneer blew up during the p-51 flyover in Saving Private Ryan..well, that's another story. Anyway, I have been shopping for the perfect a/v receiver, the salesman asks me what kind of main speakers I use, and I said an old pair of mach one's and he almost laughed. Young punk. He cranked up a pair of b&w's being pushed by a big yamaha, and said something like "...this is what a real speaker sounds like.." Well, my darn 17 year old REALISTIC Mach one's sounds 10 times better to me..more transparent and light highs, and tight base. I will keep them forever...I don't have the problem yet, but where does everyone get the refoaming kit for these? Similar Products Used: kenwood, jbl |

Strength:
Wide frequency response- excellent midrange. Adjustable midrange and tweeter controls.
Weakness:
Bass gets muddy if placed on floor. (this is for the Mach II''s) Bought new in ''86 and still have no reason to replace. These speakers will rattle the walls of the neighbors if you desire, then can play soft passages with astounding clarity. You could not find a better value in the ''80s and I still haven''t found one. An improvement over the original Mach I, the Mach II''s were way beyond what you would expect from Radio Shack. The woofer foam surround on my pair looks as good as new. i Similar Products Used: Cerwin Vega. Sony. Bose. |

Strength:
Pumping Bass, amazing for Acoustic Reflex speakers. My cabs aren''t even sealed at the moment, and the air still moves through with alarming force. My 40 watt reciever on the first notch will rattle dishes in the kitchen cabinet.
Weakness:
Foam around the woofers. Still have the original, and I REALLY REALLY wanna re foam them, but I don''t know how to. Someday it will happen. I''m 17, and am SOOO glad I''ve heard real speakers in my life. My dad traded a 5¼inch 20mb Hard Drive to my uncle for his amiga I believe in the early 90s. What an amazing set of speakers. I have experienced the same rubber surround problem, and am surprised at how good these cheapo new Shack 15" woofers sound in here. Not nearly as good as the original ones, with the 32ounce magnets. We have a 1983 Radio Shack catalog with these in it for $239 each. I love them. Teamed up with my "40 watt" Pioneer sx-680, I have the best and loudest stereo in my whole circle of friends. I''m also using Realistic Nova-5 speakers that add warmth and a little more midrange to the sound. Unbelievable. Mine is the second best setup I''ve ever heard, next to my uncles. He has JBL studio monitors and the pioneer sx1980. Need I say more? Similar Products Used: My one friend has Mach IIs, but they suck. I''ve heard some Cerwin Vegas with 15" woofers that sound almost as good. |

Strength:
Bass, 15 inches moves alot of air, adjustable liquid cooled horn tweeter and horn midrange from -6db to +6db. Can handle 160 watts continuous with 500 watts peaks. Very efficient, you don''t need alot of power to drive these. Even with the most timid receiver/amp you can get high quality sound. Sturdy construction.
Weakness:
Like many speakers their age the foam around the woofer eventually falls apart. Either refoam or replace the woofer. I bought these beasts 21 yrs ago and have never regretted it. I''ve gone through countless receivers and amps but my Mach 1''s still remain. I am currently running a Dynaco Preamp with a Carver Cube(200 per ch) for my Mach 1''s and the power amp of my Pioneer VSX 5000(100 per ch) for my rears (American Acoustics Labs). The Mach 1''s handle the power with ease and produce crystal clean highs, warm midranges and tight thunderous bass you can feel in your chest even placed a foot off the floor. My family and friends are amazed and delighted at the high quality sound these speakers produce whatever your taste is. If you can find these speakers, buy them you won''t be disappointed. The horn woofer all of it is just a great piece of work mellow with power
Weakness:
The only weakness is the receiver i have to enjoy these puppys u need an old monster kenwood, they so much better i tried it. It is the only receiver that could actually destroy these monsters These are the best speakers made in their day they were put together so remarbley well at such a low cost. These can hold up a 1000 air of speaker any day. They have been in the family for 9 years, and still pound today. Similar Products Used: none |

Incredible bass response and overall a teriffic sounding speaker!!
Weakness:
When I got this pair of Mach One's,the foam surround for the woofers was about 90% gone on both of 'em.I replaced both woofers with the newer Radio Shack Polypropylene versions.I still got a super deal on these sweeties, even though I had to buy woofs for 'em!! I really do love these speakers!!!They are efficient, look beautiful and can rattle the windows like nothing I've ever heard before. If you can find a pair of the walnut veneer originals from the late 70's/early 80's in good cosmetic shape for less than 100.00 for the pair,GET 'EM!!!!Even if you have to replace the woofers, you will still be glad you purchased a pair of the late great Mach One monsters!!!! Similar Products Used: I also have a pair of 1999 model Radio Shack(Optimus)STS-1000,which are quite similar to the Mach One.It is a 3-way system as well, but has a 12" woofer and not a 15".It also doesn't have the mid and high frequency controls that the Machs have. |

AWESOME bass power it will shake the pictures off your wall
Weakness:
none mach ones are the loudest but clearest speakers i have ever heard they have great mid range and all the bass you will ever need.I got these speakers really cheap and was really impressed when i cranked them half way and a picture fell off the wall. The only down side to these speakers is they get a little hard on the head after a while but thats what I love the most about them. if you ever hear of anybody selling some buy them as quickly as possible! |

Weakness:
Big not always easy to fit in your living room. I have owned a pair of mach ones for almost 20 years. They were the first pair of really good speakers I bought. I listened to them for about ten years. I was using a sansui au d11 mkII amp and one day when I wasnt at home someone whose mame I will not mention tund the volume and bass wide open Similar Products Used: Kliphsh hearesy |
