Strength:

Just about everything, as it should be for a $10k+ speaker.

Weakness:

Would be slightly bright if not for the tweeter level adjustments.

Among the best speakers I've ever heard, only outdone slightly by the Salons, and of course the Dynaudio Evidence (which was very good, but nowhere near $75k better). I'm not going to try to describe the sound, if you want that check out any of the various reviews online, they do the audiophile vocabulary much better than I do. What these speakers do for me is much more important than the various aspects of their sound. My system now is one of 2 or 3 I've ever heard that makes me forget I'm listening to a stereo unless I think about it. They amaze me that a speaker can really be this good. But most importantly, they make me sit up at night listening until I can't hold my eyes open anymore, then set my alarm an hour early in the morning so I can get up and listen more. That, not anything you could describe in audiophile terms, is what makes them worth every penny (and more) of their now $12,000 list price. And that is what makes me no longer care about any other speaker out there.

These are the finest speakers on the planet for the price
I paid 10,000 dollars and never looked back. They are very reveling. Ilooked at alot of speakers before I bought them
icluding the watt puppies. The Revels are much better at
everything they do for half the price. I liked them so much i bought the entire system ,It includes the voice and the embrace and the sub for theater. I Built the whole room and all the components around them.

Strength:

Good dispersion and imaging
Tight and fast bass

Weakness:

Midrange not as "natural" as Nautilus 802
High Frequency roll off beyond 10KHz affect LP sound

I did an extensive auditions aming the above listed speakers. This is a very good speakers for people who prefer less bright (some people call it neutral sound when the HF response is sloping down; this study was doen by double blind test but that is another story).
B&W produces better human voices ; they sound as if somebody (real person) was there !! but it is brighter which is good for people who prefer an accurate reproduction of the actual recording (flatter frequency response).

Strength:

Endless detail, soundstage, value considering the competition.looks

Weakness:

none at present

Firstly,I had no intention of buying £10000 speakers, My current system is Mark Levinson no.39 and 334. It used to be connected to Sonus Faber Electa amator 2 all class A listed products, but after a couple of months of running in I was not totally happy with the sound. It was a bit lumpy in the bass and not very clean. So I upgraded my speaker cable from Transparent music plus to Transparent reference not to my dealers advice. This actully made it worse it was showing that the speaker for what they were, the problem is I've always been a Sonus Faber fan and have owned a couple of their speaker but it was time to move on. I went back to my dealer for advice about other options, he knew the type of music I listen to and the revel studio speaker came up so I went round to listen to them. When I walked into the room I was in heaven the best speaker I've ever listened to, but my room was only 13ft*12ft so I was a bit worried, but my dealer advised me he has set them up in simaler rooms. Then the price came up I expected it to be wilson watt puppy prices, No it less than half I was very surprised and to be honest it sounded better. so after a good p/x on the Sonus I have a pair of revel studio in blue and so far very happy

I auditioned the Revel Studio ($10,000) immediately following sessions with the Revel Salon ($14,000) and B&W 802 Nautilus. I loved the Revel Salon and I liked the B&W 802 a lot. See my review of the Salon on this site.
The Revel Studio sounded as accurate as the Salon, but the bass a little leaner, about the same as the B&W 802. The immaging was different than any other speaker I have experienced. The soundstage was much larger and there was an airiness that completely changed my perception of what two channel audio can provide. I think it maybe due to the rear firing tweeter, but the output for the rear tweeter seemed much lower than the other drivers. I found the Studio sound to be at least 95% of what I heard in the Salon. The Studio is much smaller and $4,000 cheaper. I give the Studio 5 stars for nearly the same sound in the smaller package with the lower price.

Levinson 333 amp, Levinson preamp, and Levinson CD and DAC, plus top quality cables.

My wife laughed outloud as she said no the the B&W 802 Nautilus, she said it looked like a helmet with a microphone on top. She hated the Revel Salon because it is quite large (53" tall) and very high-tech looking. The Studio is smaller (43" tall), but it has the same high-tech styling. I am still trying to convince her that the studio in black is really unobtrusive.

I am a very lucky person. Very lucky in that I happen to live a couple of miles from an audio shop (Definitive Audio) that had a pair of these wonderous speakers in the 'big' room. All electronics were Mark Levinson, and it looked like most of the cables were MIT. MY GOD WHAT A SOUNDSTAGE! Regardless of the CD that was playing, glorious music poured from the mighty Revels. I've listened to lots of speaker systems that cost much more (B&W matrix 801's, and Wilson X-1's are two of my favorites), but these conveyed so much more emotion and intensity... It seems obscene to call $10K speakers a bargain, but these really are. I'm curios how the rest of their speaker line sounds. It sucks, I went in to listen to the B&W ASW 1000 & 2000 subs, and the B&W CDM1 SE's, and was pretty happy with their sound...but then the salesperson was nice enough to let my friend and I listen to the Revels...now, of course I can't think of anything else other than ways to generate a bit more cash in order to to afford them.

By far the best speakers these ears have ever heard.

So, who was it that said "The Revel Ultima Studio speakers sounded so damn natural, colorless, a perfect midrange with imaging and soundstaging that are amoung the best in the world, coupled with air to spare,in a speaker that is not very room or positioning sensitive!"? Oh......I remember now, that was me. I own them and wouldn't trade them for any speaker...except maybe the Revel Salons. If you haven't heard them or don't own them already,well....sorry.

Strength:

Huge soundstage, beautiful midrange clarity, tight, fast bass

Weakness:

None that I've identified yet!

I've had the Revel Studios in my home for two weeks now, and it continues to be "love at first sight." I was auditioning B&W Nautilus 803's and Martin-Logans (not really a fair comparison, as both were about $5,000, vs. over $10,000 for the Revels): I loved the midrange clarity and soundstaging of the M-L's, but felt they lacked the tight, lean bass and dynamic range of the B&W's. I was leaning towards a compromise with the M-L's (I really loved that soundstage), when I auditioned a demo pair of the Revels at Take 5 Audio in New Haven, CT. Forget compromise, these had the best of both worlds! Huge soundstage, and even punchier/tighter bass than the B&W's. The fairer comparison would have been with the Nautilus 801's, but the dealer where I auditioned B&W assured me that the 801 was too much for my 150W Krell integrated amp (300i) to handle. The Krell handles the Revels more than adequately, with Transparent cable: when I eventually upgrade electronics, the Revels will undoubtedly benefit, but they sound fantastic on the Krell. All forms of music sound great on the Revels, but the things that have almost moved me to tears are large symphonic pieces (Beethoven's 9th, Hanson's 2nd), and acoustic jazz vocals (Sinatra with Basie, Sarah Vaughan). Percussion sounds great, too: well-recorded latin jazz CD's are phenomenal (Eliane Elias, Michel Camillo).
