Strength:
Sound and vision. A thing of beauty. Flawless reproduction of music in a warm involving way. Fantastic soundstage. Perfectly shaped in all respects.
Weakness:
1. Cost, if that is a limiting factor. 2. They need top flight source components. But then again all speakers in this price range will need that also. They keep making my jaw drop and my tongue hang out. Firstly, price quoted as being paid is GBP....I waited 3 years to find a pair of these speakers second hand. Most folks who buy them keep them for life i guess. Well, after a long wait they finally arrived in my living room, in mint condition and already run in. The craftmanship involved in making these instruments is incredible (i think of them as instruments and not merely speakers). After 6 months of listening they continue to take my breath away on a daily basis. For Jazz, vocals, acoustic they are immense. I also reckon they do a fine job on Springsteen and all rock that ain't heavy metal. Ok so they're more Sophia Loren than Pamela Anderson but that suits my tastes just fine. Anyone lucky enough to be able to afford a pair of speakers in this price range seriously needs to audition these beauties. They make music come alive in my living room and thats good enough for me. Strength:
Utterly live sound. Involving, will not fatigue your ears, imaging, soundstage, quality, looks, just the right size, classy, rare.
Weakness:
What! Are you kidding!? These speakers just keep impressing me more and more every day and the more they break in. It's reassuring to know that after spending so much money you absolutely made the right choice. To me with special recordings they sound utterly live. With more ordinary recordings they sound simply fantastic. There are speakers with better bass, but so what! It's the total sound and tonality that sets the Guarneri apart from the others. They also look great to boot! This is the first time since I've been a critical music listener that my system sounds better than any system I've listened to in high end music equipment shops! We all know that stereos sound better at the dealer right? Well I can finally say that my journey has ended with these Guarneri. I love them to death. Strength:
Stunning craftsmenship. Let's face it. Your audio system will not be playing ALL the time. Wouldn't it be nice to also be able to look at this stunning piece of furniture in your home? Broad soundstage and very realistic reproduction. Your best source material will have you listening all over again(but your worst material will reveal new flaws you might have missed). Especially well adapted to acoustic instruments and vocals, ie. classical and jazz.
Weakness:
Expensive Best used with only the best electronics you can afford. Very revealing. May force you to discard lesser quality source material. Unable to reach the lowest lows. Definately not the best choice for fans of heavy metal. This speaker is fine wine and does a poor simulation beer. It has been four years now and I am happy to say that I am more in love with this speaker now than when I first hear it in the showroom. Highly recommended! Originally my challenge lay in finding a speaker that would offer an accurate and realistic soundstage in a farly small space(an upstairs loft of approximately 700 Sq. feet). I auditioned many excellent speakers and eventually narrowed the choices to two very fine 2 way speakers--Guarneri Homage and B&W Silver Signature. I made the right choice! The sound has improved over time. Highs are amazingly clear and lifelike while it's lows are surprisingly deep given the relative size. Being a jazz fan, this speaker brings out the very best of acoustic instruments and vocals. They allow me to forget the speakers and concentrate solely on the beauty of the music....no mean accomplisment as I feel many products force certain parts of the audio spectrum on you in order to validate their worth. At Sonus Faber no sonic gymnastics are necessary. This is a speaker you can enjoy and never tire of for a very long time. Strength:
True to the music.
Weakness:
None When we forget about the essence of music, we tend to talk about detail, clarity, air, warmth, coloration, distortion and resolution. Speakers are meant to play music as enjoyable as possible. This is one big reason I purchased the Guarneri Homage. It plays music like no other speakers. It sounds like a musical instrument but plays vocals and instruments with aplomb. This is what a speaker should be! ENJOYABLE! This is the biggest single investment in my system that puts a big grin in my face time after time. associated equipment : krell 280cd krell fpb300 krell pre (cast) DIY silver interconnects DIY silver speakercables SF Guarneri Homage Similar Products Used: No other speakers makes music like the Guarneri's! |

Makes music!
Weakness:
Lacks all out bass but people who purchase this speaker will not be buying this speaker for bass. I currently own a few set of speakers although some are very transparent and some have excellent bass, non has been as musical and as involving as the Guarneri. Having owned a pair for over 2 years now, I have decided to purchase another pair soon in case Sonus stops it's production. Similar Products Used: JMLAB Grand Utopia, Krell LAT-1. |

Strength:
Musical, emotion, involvement, soundstage depth is amazing.
Weakness:
-Sleepless nights -Future upgrade path will be hard to come by without compromises. This is a 2002 model S/N 1952. First ever speaker that I have listened to that offered so much emotion, depth, involvement song after song. For anyone in the market for a pair of Guarneri's, please audition it for at least an hour then you will understand what I mean. No amount of words can express it's qualities more accurately than hearing one yourself. Choral music takes on a different depth while vocal jazz opens up the soundstage as wide as your room can muster. |

Strength:
Involving, emotional, natural and non-fatiguing sound. Aesthetically pleasing and sounds it too!
Weakness:
Bassheads may be disappointed. Upgrade path is almost non-existent! This is a 2002 built Guarneri. S/N 1952. First time I took this baby out of it's wooden crate, I just can't help it but to think this is a priceless antique furniture. I was very impressed by the literature included and the packaging is worth the money asking for this speaker. Fresh out of the box, it sounded a tad limited in the midrange but the treble just flows with silkiness and the air that surrounds every instruments are still there. I was very very impressed with the resolution. The soundstage was wall to wall on a 30ft wide room. Furthermore, the Guarneri depicted each instruments consistently in it's own acoustic space which was absent with the Concertino. After about 15 hours of listening, the midrange loosened up and the sound is very easy, clear and rich. IMHO the richest and clearest I have ever heard in a speaker. Bass was adequate for my listening tastes (vocal jazz, acid jazz and standards). Having gotten used to the sound of a Sonus Faber Concertino, I find that there are songs where the Guarneri sounded like it had a subwoofer accompanying it. Since this was a "indent" order which I waited 3 months for it to arrive, I have been worried about it's low frequency response or the lack thereof. But now, I have to say that it is satisfyingly full and surpasses my expectations. Anybody who is planning on getting a Guarneri, GO FOR IT! This is a timeless classic that will sure go down in the audio industry as one of the best sounding and best looking speakers. Should after 20 years or so, when the drivers have all but given up, you can leave it in the house as a decorative fine furniture! Hats off to Sonus! |
