Strength:

mid to high sound

Weakness:

bass is kinda funky

great sounding sats very clean sound, but bass could be better... im thinking a nice 12 inch sub will make it perfect. i payed only 150 dollars so im not gonna complain.... heres what happend, i went into the local store looking to get some decent surrounds and a center channel ... and i found a nice set of sony speakers that were only 150 bux for the set of 3, so i told the salesperson that i wanted them... so he looks them up in the computer and says there is only 1 of them in stock and goes and gets this big very heavy box and i look at the price on it .. and it matches the 3 speaker set that i asked for so i took it to the register and payed my money and went out the door .. and as i was walking out... i noticed on the box it said it had a 150 W powered sub and i was puzzled by this.. so when i got home i opened it up and found this 1000 dollar speaker set in the box! the damn thing was miss marked! but hey it saved me 850 dollars =)

Strength:

Small and unobtrussive. The style. Extended definition to 70,000 Hz. 150 Watt Powered Sub. 140 Watt handling.

Weakness:

Rear wall brackets Can't handle 12 gauge wire.

I AM TOTALLY SATISFIED. These small 140 watt speakers have a heavy weight to them. They sound awesome, crisp, clear, full of detail...and have an extended definition frequency response up to 70,000 hz. They handle the power I throw at them. The active subwoofer as a built 150 watt amp that is more than enough power for my home theater system. DVD's come alive and music sounds great. These speakers also look awesome. Bravo for these babies. I was missing the Bass and extreme highs with my last pair of speakers. I also like the sub's auto power. Since I have 12 gauge wire running through my walls for my rear speakers, I spliced a 6"length of 16 gauge wire to the 12 gauge so that it could go through the wall brackets. I was able to get the 12 gauge in to my frot speakers.

Strength:

very high quality movie /DTS sound production.
Good/artistic looking speakers. put these next to a vase
and they won't bother that much.

Weakness:

cheap cables, plastic stands used for speakers.
not usable for normal radio/cd music listening.(sounds bad)
subwoofer has music/movie switch...advice: never use it for music...it adds nothing to music.

There speakers are I would say the best choice you could make for a 5.1 satelite movietheater set I think.
The best score they get for their looks.
Wifes mostly hate the looks of wooden boxes filling the
whole room. Whatever woodcolour they are made with, they mostly don't integrate easily with the furniture and space
in the living room (especially when you live in the netherlands or England. Yes there are better speaker sets out there. But they mostly have the boxy look and are larger (excluding Bose).
Bose has a warmer and far better midrange then the sony.
Better for music listening. the Sony speakers should never be used for normal music (radio cd music cassette) listening!!!not even if you combine it with other speaker systems (with a strong and a good midrange)!!...
If you do (which I tried)...you at first hand would get
better sound (the low and the highs sound better..the sound
from the music is much clearer and cleaner...But clearer and cleaner doesn't necesary mean better. The best sounding
systems (which are a joy to listen to).. are mostly
systems that produce at a low level muffeled (warmer) sound.
Because of that the system produces a kind of relaxing
vibration to the mind (think of meditating).
The sony have none of that!!!...(no wooden boxes (shells)..
only aliminium)...so listening to music through the sony
would give you a hard time eventualy...that is exept for DTS music....
They look like having a very weak midrange when listening to music. However.. when using a dolby digital or dts cd dvd..The music and sound comes to life like no other speaker set system can reproduce. The whole weak midrange theory seems to disappear for 80%....!!
The whole sony system is molded for hometheater only!!!!
The active subwoofer gets just 4 out of 5 from me. Mostly
because it has a music/movie switch , wich indicates that
it could be used for listening to music....which I would not recommend. Use your old speakerset for music and turn of the subwoofer if you're listening to music.
They should've used a wooden casing for the woofer and the satelites if it should be used for music..
If they did for the woofer..it could easily compete with the other great $1000 subwoofers...again..the aliminium /plastic/metal casing works against revibrating. I think it's meant to do that because it must produce the sounds as natural as they come (movie sound).
The subwoofer is strong enough (even too strong) for the whole system)..
the satelites are great. At low and high volumes no sound
disformation..and no sissling noise at very low sounds.
You could easily use them as headphones and the sound would be as good as any headphone.
I'm using a marantz sr5000...and it is more than enough!!
to get enough out of the speakers!!!
In setting up the speakers be sure to set them up facing
the movie watchers (don't use wall bouncing technics)..
They should all be facing towards a centerpoint.
the woofer can be placed anywhere but try to avoid corners.

The system is concerning desing and options (70.000 hz) is
worth the price . But unfortunately DTS music is a far away
option for any of us and so is the new cd standard which
is capable of reaching that high frequencies.
so they get a minus instead of a plus for adding that option (and including it in the price)

It's a system which generally needs new technology devices
(which are to date very very expensive)to get the most out of it.
But if you are a DVD enthousiast (and maried..or living with a girlfriend) you can't go wrong with this system.
It's not the best buy...but it's a great buy!!
best would be ..definitive technology...Better Sub and better midrange and compatible with music listening. But less highs less natural sounds and less exceptable to the wife..

it's just what you choose for...........

Strength:

Small yet very large sounding. They look great and sound great as well. The details that are put into them.

Weakness:

None so far...

I purchased this great speaker system from Etronics.com and saved a lot of cash. MSRP is 1500 dollars, but shipped to my house was only $740 through the above site. The quality is downright astounding. I had Pinnacle AC-650's main and 450's for surround before, but my wife tired of the largeness of those. (GREAT speakers BTW...) These speakers sound great and really make DVD's, as well as music, jump out and grab you. To be honest, I realize that there are better (and more $$$$) speakers out there, but the SAVE815ED speakers hold their own blowing the competition (in this category - Bose, JBL, etc.) away. I must note that my Paradigm PDR-10 subwoofer does sound better than the Sony's sub, but I now am using both to give even more punch. If you are looking for small, unobtrusive, great sounding and great looking speakers, then the Sony SAVE815ES is worth a look. Your friends will be envious, I assure you.

Strength:

Size, looks, sound

Weakness:

not quite a Jamo but didn't pay the price

Purchased after comparing several lines of systems. Wanted something that was simple in design, but I didn't need a high end sound system. The speakers do not sound weak and they seem to compliment the room fine. Finished basement and the Audio room is 18 x 12.5 ft. Spouse does not care for the extreme sub abilities, the control is a nice feature.

Good system for the money. Could have spent more, but I doubt that I would have noticed much of a difference.

In house teen age son gave his stamp of approval. He seems to be more in tune of the abilities.

Strength:

Really cool design. Very compact and works pretty good in Home Theater mode, although my friend's BOSE have a slightly better sound quality.

Weakness:

Playing music on this system is a joke. Sound quality is very flat and lifeless. Very poor dynamic range. For music I'm now using some 10 year old Sony floor speakers and they have much better sound quality. I'm driving this with Sony's STR-V777ES receiver.

Pretty good for home theater, although they definitely aren't great for home theater. Absolutely worthless for music. I'm a little disappointed with these. Alot of work on the appearance and very little on the sound quality. Speakers are meant to be heard and not seen. Poor product from Sony. :-(

Strength:

I agree that it sounds weak with regular stereo music, but when paired with SACD, they sound like nothing else, simply amazing, but it could be the SACD too.

Pair them with SACD, and I can't think of a better system
