Strength:

Powered main speaker, decent build quality,ok bass

Weakness:

Bass can be a bit boomy if set to sub 1.Awful surrounds.

This product can be taken three ways as nice bedroom H/T setup,an excellent upgrade project or in the dumpster.I chose the upgrade the first step throw the surrounds away.Far AWAY!Next Requires a mid/tweeter and crossover replacement. My path is for the serious DIY hobbyist. It's not bad though as a secondary system(Can we say garage) out of the box.But again and I say it with impunity the surrounds are total junk.Sony is not famed for it's speakers
so don't buy unless you see them at a garage sale for $40.

Folks,
If you buy this system, you need to be shot!! The SA-VA speaker line is meant for the Sony Maximum Television line. We bought into this because we live in an Apartement and wanted a cost effective HT/Music system. The TV i.e 41" or 43" projection is excellent!!! But the speaker system leaves a lot to be desired. The best way I can describe this to you is to say that this is classic Sony. They all ways do something right then pair it up with a world class failure. The TV is good, the front speakers are decent (if you are on a tight budget), but the center channel and rears are miserable. We have seen this speaker used with outher projection TV's but it is primarily for Maximum TV. The center speaker is too weak and gets drown out in HT by all the other sounds like explosions, etc. The rear infrared speakers are a good concept because you do not need to run wires (a major plus if you live in an apt.). Major hiss, bad sound and on occasion we end up picking up radio signals, like when our neighbour listen to radio. Also you can not have any light source on while using the rear. You get major hiss. i have done a lot of research and have found that this speaker is returned by mostof those who buy them. Even stores like Circuit City and the good Guys are not positive about it. If any sales person convinces you that this a good speaker system, you have my permission to shove a pie in his/her face. But if you can live with the drawbacks then go for it. it all comes down to what you can live with and budget.

Strength:

easy setup, no amp needed

Weakness:

center channel

This setup is perfect for the bedroom. All you need is to plug in a dvd player and your good to go. Don't listen to the idiot who gave it one star. As a second system its much much better than the mini systems poppin up.
