Strength:

compact, big sound

Weakness:

subwoofer could be a little stronger

This speakers set is great, sounds awesome, very clear, and easy to place anywhere (doesn't take up too much room). Overall it gives good sound but the subwoofer seems to bottom out a litter sooner than expected.

Strength:

Small but Powerfull

This is a perfect system for people with not too much money and roomspace. I have a small room (5 by 5 M) and the speakers sounds great. The subwoofer is very powerfull and the other speakers sounds very clear.

Strength:

- nice sub
- small speakers
- good sound for relative cheap speakerset
- cheap

Weakness:

- perfect for home theater, sucks when listening to normal audio cd´s...

overall rating: 5 stars. keep in mind, only for home theater, not for "normal" use...
then it´s worth the 5 stars...

Strength:

Size, design, clear sound

Weakness:

price (always a weakness in Argentina), lack of bass

This is good for only not demanding people, the lack of bass is annoying if the volume is a little loud, the subwoofer should be more powerful, the dialogues are not natural in such a small center speaker.

Strength:

satellites are small
subwoofer does a decent job given its 6 1/2 inch size

Weakness:

one way drivers in all satellites
complete lack of lower midrange/upper bass
very tinny/bright sounding
sub can be boomy/distorted at times.

This is a review for the SA-VE315 system. I used this package for about 15 months and it was enjoyable for movies but not really for music. I never really paid much attention to what quality I was getting out of this system until I upgraded a pair of $30 indoor/outdoor speakers in a separate setup in another room. I bought a nice pair of CSW Newton M50s and decided to bring those in to the home theater room and do a few tests. What I learned really surprised me. Speakers with one midrange driver cannot reproduce the lower midrange and upper bass at all. There was a huge frequency gap between the tiny satellites and the sub and this is why my ears had told me the system did not sound good with music. When compared to decent speakers with separate drivers for the high and low frequencies (tweeter and woofer), the Sony satellites literally sounded like tin cans. And since they lacked the upper bass region, the subwoofer never merged with the satellites. There was always two distinct sounds: bright/tinniness coming from the satellites and boomy bass coming from the sub. I had no idea what I had been missing all that time. I rewatched some scenes from movies I've seen many times and it was like I was listening to the movie for the first time. There were sounds I had never heard. After all of these tests, I decided to upgrade all the satellites and for about twice what I spent on the Sonys, I got speakers that are about 10 times better in sound quality. In the end I also decided to upgrade the subwoofer but only because I wanted a little bit more lower bass (Sony sub is only a 6 1/2 inch woofer) and something a bit less boomy. I would say that the Sony sub though was much more seamless in its interation with the new speakers than with the old satellites. I gave the satellites to a friend and decided to keep the Sony sub for my office/computer setup.

My recommendation is that even if you're looking for entry level home theater system, stay away from speakers with one midrange driver (most of the small satellite systems), especially if you listen to any music at all, and save a little more money and get a decent package from any number of speaker companies out there (Polk, Paradigm, CSW, Axiom, JBL, Mirage, Energy, etc.). In the long run, you'll thank yourself. If you absolutely can't spend anymore money then look at something like the Kenwood HTB-504 system which gets high marks from most.

If you don´t want to spend too much money, but still want a nice surround sound these speakers will do.

Strength:

crystal clear sound, really smal

Weakness:

sub a bit weak

This is a great surrond speaker set, the speakers are really small, but give great sound anyway. Sub is good enough, it shakes things around on the tabels just fine. I would recomend this to every audio enthusiast, but thoose who are audiophiles should look for a system with a more powerfull sub.

Strength:

Compact in size bu delivers serious clear sound.

Weakness:

The subwoofer could be stronger

This is a must for people who:
• have set themselves a small budget for purchasing speakers and want big sound for home entertainment usage.
• people who have limited space at home for speaker placements and don't want to sacrifice the space the other furnitures in the room already possess.

Considering that it gives a total power output of 580 watts (100w x 2 fronts and 2 rears, 120w center and 60w subwoofer) the sound is amazing for such a low price. If you're looking for big cinema quality sound for home entertainment, then this is it!
It's very easy to install and delivers the same crisp, clear sound that the bigger speakers has to offer.

Strength:

Nice, crisp sound

Weakness:

not for audiophiles, sub is underpowered

These speakers are my first surround speakers and they're great. I hooked the up to my Kenwood VR-406 receiver and there is no noticable distortion at all. But because these speakers are inexpensive, they aren't for people who want great sound. Since this is my first set of speakers, I have no idea if the subwoofer is good or bad, but I was expecting more out of it. These speakers are perfect for people who want great sound for a low cost.

Strength:

Great value! Good for first time users with a small room. Very clear treble and midrange for 1-way speakers. easy to place.

Weakness:

all 1-way full range speakers. Not a home theater sub.

I got this after Christmas this year and I am mostly satisfied. Since I am 14 and don't have much money, this was about all I could afford. At the store, it sounded way better than all of the mini systems in its price range(Sony, Panasonic,Aiwa, etc.) and was much cheaper than other home theater systems. When I placed the speakers in the upper corners of my room, it was a very easy task, even without brackets. (I hammered in nails and hung the speakers on them except for the center channel, which sat on top of my TV.) The sub sat a few inches away from the wall in a corner. As far as sound goes, it is very clear and good surround placement is easy to achieve. The sub, however is a little underpowered(though loud for only 60 watts) and distorsion is a big problem. To avoid this, I never turn it up more than half way. By the way, these speakers came packaged with a Sony STR-SE391 reciever, whichbis great, except for having to rely on a motorized knob for volume. (very hard to know where its set in the dark.) Some adjustments I made were 10 db up on the surrounds and 5db down on the center. That evened things out considerably because I could barely hear the surround and the center was a bit overbearing. I plan to eventually replact the front speakers with a pair of JBL ND310's. The small speakers could go near my bed and the little sub can be used with computer speakers. I would give less stars, but for the price and howe awesome it will be when upgraded, this package is unbeatable!
