The best speakers for the money. Comparable to speakers that are twice the price.

I paired these speakers with a Pioneer VXD-557 reciver to start my dorm system with and they sound fantastic. Suprisingly strong, quick bass for floor speakers. Best speakers for my money I've gotten yet.

Great speakers for the money. Excellent bass response for the size of the speakers. They are excellent for home theater use and in 5.1 surround they sound incredible!

Strength:

Very cheap for the level of quality, good mids and highs

Weakness:

Weak bass, can't handle the 150 watts it's rated for

This is a great pair of speakers for $120. They can't quite handle my receiver (see above) which is 100W, much less 150W. But then again my receiver is way out of their league. These sound really clear but the bass starts to crap out at higher volumes. You definitely need a subwoofer if you're going to use these. Nevertheless, these speakers are a tremendous value. The value is so good that I am going to give it a 5 overall rating even though they should probably only have a 4. Thay are far better then you'll imagine getting for the price.

Strength:

These are elegant looking speakers, floor-standing units to boot. The size allows great flexibility in placing. Not a lot of deals can be still found for three-way speakers that sound this good. The cabinet allows the bass to come off better than expected for the 6-1/4 woofer supplied. Even though the shelf model had a larger woofer, the bass came across better, or more natural in these units.

Weakness:

Cabinet design and size of woofer allows crimp in bass, but I plan on purchasing a low-end subwoofer to all but make up for it.

Best Buy has these on sale for 69.00 each. I used the in-store console to compare these with several the MF515 and a bookshelf unit- for the price, these
Sony's are the best deal, with the future investment of
a sub-woofer. The mid-range provides a welcome return to the enjoyment , mix and variety of rock and pop vocals, and not just constant cymbals and bottom-basslines all the time.If you do not plan on adding a sub-woofer, probably stick with the Sony SS MF515 units- Hey, Best Buy has them
also on sale for about 119.00 each.

I'm moving my MS1800 RS Radio Shack two-way speakers out of the room, maybe to use as rear units in a surround sound. The Sony's will take their place.

Strength:

Price, looks

Weakness:

low power handling, cheap materials(what u get for $160)

These speakers are pathetic, I have a 100w reciever and the damn things start clipping at 10 o'clock, unclear and restricted sound, poor bass.Cheap connectors, I guess they are ok if you have a small room, subwoofer and a tight budget. I recently took them back to best buy and invested in a good pair of yamahas. they are second to none
