Strength:
mids and highs
Weakness:
bass I have listened on these speakers for 2 years and they still sound great. I use a KLH sub with a crossover at 80Hz. These speakers lack good bass extention but are good for the money. The mids and highs are very clear however. |

Strength:
Good sharp sound and value for money
Weakness:
not loud enough or bassie enough for my liking These sonys are alright but i rekon lack with rock music in the mid range and dont go low enough, u need a sub. I listen to mostly music and the bass distorts once u put some power into them. Similar Products Used: sony amp |

Strength:
Full range, technically accurate sound. Handle reasonable power / volume levels. Decent bass for the price bracket.
Weakness:
"Musicallity" lacking - they tend to sound like two seperate boxes of drivers, rather than a well integrated, transparent system. These speakers replaced a pair of ageing Sony 12" , 3 way floor standing units, so pretty much anything was going to be an improvment. The closest competitor in their price range is a similar-specced Denon system, but they are somewhat dearer (around 20%). So, how do they sound? In a word, interesting! They have a lovely, rich midrange (albeit a little over-bright). The top-end is clean but does lack some polish and sparkle; and the bass is surprisingly accomplished from a speaker in this price bracket. Overall a very professional effort from a manufacturer not renowned for their speaker systems. |

Strength:
Great price, sound very clean, have a "full" sound, attractive
Weakness:
None These speakers are fantastic. Definitely an improvement over the Sony bookshelves that came with my mini hi-fi system(which were pretty good speakers). I'm using these hooked up to my mini hi-fi stereo reciever(Sony MHC-BX6A) and they sound very clean; even though they aren't getting the power input of a real reciever or amp. Although the bass output isn't extremely low, they are ported effectively so they can go a little lower then the midbass range. You'll probably want a quality 12" sub to pair with these as I barely even notice my 8" now. Similar Products Used: Sony SSM-600H |

Strength:
Excellent bass for the size, One of the best buys for the money, Good music and movie quality, Looks nice
Weakness:
Needs a somewhat higher rms level. These speakers are not gonna blow away any Definitives, Polks, or Infinity. For the money they are excellent. I bought these speakers for my room i wanted something cheap but with good midrange and bass. I use these for my music or my movies. I live out in the country so I am able to listen to them to their full extent. If you are a bass head like me then you will want a sub. For overall listening and money you should give these towers a look. And if you are looking at a sub try cerwin vegas new 300 watt powered sub 12 inch for 349.95 at best buy. Strength:
price and size, mid and hight sound is fine
Weakness:
low is what you pay for I got these speakers 2 months and very happy with them. I have crossover on 80 Hz, so all my bass goes to Sub. And I think they design to use them this way. Excellent 55-50KHz range for DVD-AUDIO and SACD. Very clear mid/high sound. Similar Products Used: lots of them. |

Strength:
Nice Bass and Very High Treble
Weakness:
Speaker connertors could be better. I purchased these speakers in August of 2001 and I have enjoyed them. I currently have the Technics SA-EX140 reciever but I will soon buy a Sony STRDE475. These speakers work great and really have some rich, but sometimes too boomy bass. I have enjoyed these from the day I got them and I know you will too. |

This is a review on the 300 not the 400.
Weakness:
Box is a little flimsy.Bass does distort on some beats but i think thats cause its not broke in all the way.Very little dampening inside but how much do you need for a sealed cabinet?Whatever the woofer cone is made of it bends easy.i havent had a chance to test them to the max cause my receiver doesnt have enough power, and i dont want to blow them because of the cliping.Need a good sub with tight bass to fill in the lows and match the sound. These sounded like sh!t in BB,but when i got the home they werent to bad.The highs were sharp but i let them break in when i wasnt in the room that way i knew my ears didnt adjust and after about 10 hours they sounded a little warmer but i think theyll need a little more time at louder volume to fully break in.All in all not a bad deal for what i paid but im only using these untill i can afford some high end speakers, but ill have to wait awhile because the system im using needs to be upgraded first. |

Strength:
Clear sound,
Weakness:
At high volumes sound tends to be to "sharp" and "cold" I use these speakers with sony's STR-DE475 A/V Receiver (80 watt per chanell)and I should admit that this combination gives me clear sharp sound but I would like it to be "warmer". I had expected problems with deep bass(receiver's range 40-20000, speaker's range:50-50000), but anyway in most cases we need active subwoofer for HT ,so that I hope to improve the situation with some kind of sub under $200.
