Strength:

Incredible imaging. Excellent integration with my sub.

Weakness:

None so far.

I am simply blown away. I just got these speakers and set them up today.

I played with the positioning until I finally ended up with them in the middle of my floor. I was willing to sacrifice aesthetics for imaging. I have of course taken the grills off.

I've been listening for about 8 hours now. The first CD that I put on since I set them in the middle of the floor is Nirvana's Unplugged in NY. The imaging is just incredible. It sounds like Kurt Cobain is 7 feet in front of me. I can hear the tiniest of details in the recording like a faint cough in the audience and Kurt taking breaths.
I can only imagine how good these speakers will sound once they've been broken in.

The speakers themselves look very good. They look like a much more expensive model. The Sony emblem on the front is attached to the grill, so removing it as easy as taking the grill off.

I have the speakers hooked up with bananna plugs and 12 guage wire. I have my wires suspended off of my floor with clips I screwed into my wall (very inexpensive solution. :-) ).

Synching the speakers with my LFE was a little tricky since I have two subs. I have Sony's SA-WM40 (Which is very good) and a 100w/10inch DCM sub. I have my xover set at 100hz in my reciver settings. One sub is out of phase, and the other, in.

Overall, I highly recommend these speakers to anyone looking to get an excellent product at an amazing price. And, do get the extended warranty at BestBuy. It is worth thirty dollars to have full protection for 6 years (2 years sony + 4 years BB). They are not trying to cheat you, folks!

Strength:

Think about the price range.

Weakness:

Once Again, Think about the price range.

To start off with I have a Pioneer Elite 29TX receiver with a Panasonic RP91K DVD Audio player. As you can tell in my similar products used: I have brought home, auditioned and returned a lot of speakers. The Bose I auditioned were a lifestyles system which I kept and set up in my bedroom because of the excellent deal I got on them. In the given price range I thought the Yamaha's imaged the best. The only real gripe I had with them was even after a month of break in, they still made my ears bleed with their piercing aluminium tweeters. So, I once again was on a quest for the most bang-for-your-buck speaker. I had auditioned practically everything Best Buy had to offer except the Sonys. I was skeptical about their home speakers because I absolutley dreaded their car speakers. (But that is another review.) So anyway, at this point I figured why not and purchased a pair and took them home. I got them home and hooked them up only to find that they were very detailed without being too harsh in the high end. The imaging was not as seperated as the Yamahas but still pleasing just the same. The definitly needed a sub hooked up with them, but only to complement not to seperate. With the range these speakers can handle I was able to dial them in with sub to be perfectly transparent with one another with the aid of my Avia disc. (Anyone who has a home theater should own this disc.) After about a month of break in, I noticed the highs to be more soothing and refined, and were less harsh than when they were fresh out of the box. The mids were very detailed and transparent. The subs, (in the cabinet) were clean and detailed without being overdriven or boomy. I grew fonder and fonder the more I listened to these speakers and decided to go purchase another pair for the surrounds and the matching center channel. The center channel was an immediate improvement over my old Bose center. The dialogue was crisp and detailed and did not need the help of a sub, for it could handle all frequency ranges with certin ease.

Now for the ultimate review. As I said before, I have a very nice DVD-Audio player. Now at this point I have four of these towers for my mains and surround, and the matching center channel with an Infinity sub. I popped in Metallica the self titled album (or Black album) on DVD-Audio. The sound was sooooooooo clean, clear, transparent, seperated and absolutely awe inspiring. I would recommend these speakers to ANYBODY who is trying to build the ultimate home theater on a budget.

Remember these are not the best speakers. They are certainly not the most expansive speakers. But, they are the best speakers on can buy for under $500.00.

Strength:

Price, Looks, Sound In Every Way!

Weakness:

Hauling them up 2 flights of stairs!

These speakers kick ass! I'm not usually a fan of Sony, but they have done quite well. I got them for a second system in my Jam Room and I am totally impressed. I was worried about the bass but WHOA! Position them the CORRECT way (see your catalog) and the lows are fantastic! My main system is all Yamaha for audio and Mitsubishi for video. My Yamaha setup has the whole nine yards (powered subs, center, digital surround) and these Sony's could hold up to them any day, even without a sub! I have listened to every thing from Gershwin to Miles. Rock, Rap, Classical, Jazz, everything sounds excellent. If you want some inexpensive, great sounding speakers, check these out! Put them up against $1000 Bose for yourself.

Strength:

Very good quality for the price compaired to other brands.

Weakness:

None so far

These speakers blow others out of the water when it come the value. I've looked at $500 JBL's that dont even compair to the sound quality that these put out. If your looking for a decent sounding setup for a good value... here they are!

Strength:

Highs, Mids, soundstage and imaging, and they look pretty cool as well

Weakness:

deep bass and kinda power hungry

Good mid price speaker, but I have to say in order to get a true sound experience you need to compliment them with a subwoofer, but even alone they are still outstanding. Even though they dont have the best sound, as said before, you would need to spend a lot more money for anything better.
