Strength:

very nice with voice sound, percussion very dry.

Weakness:

Bass not very deep. Must be completed with effect speaker for home theater but not necessary for music listening.

I bought these loudspeakers with the Cambridge D500SE and A500 integrated amplifier. The retailor advised me to fill it with dry sand, what I didn''t do immediatly. I recently bought a Arcam CD72 with a nice price and I have the famous dry sand in the loudspeaker filled (about 15-20 kg each). The arcam CD give more details and articulation than the Cambridge but the tannoy are incredible beter with a 2 buks dry sand within. The impact given to the bass is fabulous. I have biwired the speakers and I would like to add a P500 to bi-amplifier. Configuration Arcam CD72 QED silver spiral Tuner Cambridge T500 qed qnuex1 Cambridge A500 Tannoy MX3, qed original 2,5mm for trebble, 4mm for bass

Strength:

Clear and crisp sound. Excellent for music and movies.

Weakness:

Watch out for how much bass you put in them. They can handle quite a bit, but be careful.

Excellent speakers for the price. They have done very well with everything that I have put them through. Go out and pick up a pair.

i use this loudspeakers with ayamaha rxv596 and akenwood cd player dpf-2030 i have heard many speakers and many combinations of systems but yet i have never heard such a natural sound from speakers at that price come to think of it i have never heard such a natural sound period. very balanced speakers work great almost with every kind of musicgraet withe soul music . the bass is also powerfull not the most powerfull around but well resrined the trebel is also not the most explicit around but he is balanced and never scrach your ears he is also very natural the midrange is also very natural and he is certenly the best around this tannoys are never wrongfooted they are for sure the best speakers you can buy at that price and even more expensive speakers cant compit with the mx3 in the overall record other loudspeakers can do better with aspecific kind of music but no speaker i have ever heard (and i lissend to many) can do that good with almost every music.

Strength:

Midrange, smooth high frequencies, weighty bass, great all-round

Weakness:

finish could really be better, the vinyl could have been applied much neater

the first moment I heard these speakers I knew they just had to be mine. The midrange is so glorious, it can put some speakers costing twice their price to shame. I was very surprised about the bass weight these babies brought along. they never tend to boom, they just stay amazingly clean. they are very submissive to placement and the kind of room they're in. The first moment you pull them away from the wall the image becomes much deeper. Which brings me to their best quality : imaging. I played a track from Jacques Brel, and I brought my mother in. She couldn't believe her ears. Neither could I. The singer is just there, with you in the room.
They can also shake the room if that's what you want, and therefore make an ideal all-round speaker.
TIP: mass-load them ! -> huge improvement in bass performance, they grab your floor and kick it !

Strength:

Nice look with clean lines. Good range and very clean sound at moderate listening levels. Will suit the average person. Definite step above the cheaper unknown makes.

Weakness:

The side wood panels are simply too weak, heavier and thicker wood should have been used. Hence too much sound escapes from the side making imaging poor. The problem can be solved by separating the pair by at least 10-12 feet. Something not always possible in small rooms. Cannot handle higher volume without starting to distort. Not recommended for hard rock listeners.

I needed to buy a pair of good speakers for a second listening room to replace some cheap KLH. I listen to mostly classical and opera from reel to reel, LPs and CDs. Ocassional FM stations. I evaluated at the store both the MX2 and MX3 using my own CDs. Both sounded good, but the MX3 was definitely a more robust with more body (bass) in its sound. Amplifier was set to flat. The spectrum of sound from high treble to low bass is well covered with smooth transition. Excellent sounding speakers, but I expected a more solid construction for the price paid. Probably further research could have made me happier. The main reason for choosing the Tannoys were its light color wood finish which was necessary to fit the decor. To close please read the weaknesses I found.

Strength:

Articulate highs, fine midrange, great imaging and bi-wireable.

Weakness:

Narrow "footprint" compared to height, Taiwan assembled.

For those individuals on a budget, this speaker is a thing of beauty. I did some serious comparisons of the B&W and PSB models noted above (I think I drove the salesperson at the audio store to drink), and the Tannoy mx3 came out the winner. Although the sound of all three speaker models do a fine job of faithfully reproducing music, the Tannoy mx3 appeared to me to be the best "value" for the money.

The best attributes this speaker has have been noted above. The highs are very clean---I listened to this speaker at a fairly loud volume (-12dB on a Marantz SR7000 Receiver) for about an hour and did not experience any listening fatigue, which surely would have happened if the highs were harsh. The bass is respectable and present, but not overpowering. So if you use these in a HT setup, you will need a subwoofer. But then, who doesn't have a subwoofer these days? The imaging of the Tannoy mx3 is superb and brings out detail in music I haven't heard before---with music I have been listening to for years. This speaker is going to give my music collection a whole new life!

The only negatives I can see thus far have also been noted above. Although I wasn't all that thrilled about buying something that is made in Taiwan, the "fit and finish" of the Tannoy mx3 is very good, nonetheless. Besides, isn't that the same thing we as Americans said about products that were made in Japan about 30 or 40 years ago? The main thing is that this speaker is designed and engineered in Scotland by a company with over 70 years experience.

If you are in the market for a great-sounding floor-standing tower and are on a budget (under $500), the Tannoy mx3 is a tough act to follow. I highly recommend them.

Sound transparency, appearance

I bought these speakers for mains in a primarily HT setup:
Denon 1801
Tannoy MX3
Tannoy MXC
Tannoy MX2

They sound great. I compared them to B&W, paradigm, energy, nht, all were good, but for the money Tannoy wins hands down.

Listen before you buy, but I love mine.

Strength:

This speakers are awesome. They sound great with my Philips DVD player and they are excellent for movies in both stereo or in DD 5.1.

Weakness:

None so far! Are you crazy?¿ :-)

A have just bought a pair of MX3 from my local dealer and i think is the best purchase i have ever made. I am combining them with my Philips DVD 957 player and with the new Kenwood KAF-3030R amplifier. What a combination! They sound great,awesome...(no words!) with different kind of music. It was like Sade,Texas singer and Mark Knoffler were there playing in my livingroom. My girlfriend was also impressed and she likes them a lot. She stayed listening to them one afternoon without getting tired of the sound.

I have been researching the market for more than 2 moths. I wanted to waste 500$ and no more and i REALLY found this speakers made to me. The first time i listened to them i thought these should be mine as soon as possible!

I was close to spend likely twice the price in some AR Status S40 which i liked too but after looking at the price i took the MX3. Even the MX3 sounded much better than the AR´s in the middle range.

Please, take in consideration my advice and go for these jewels. You will never regret about your decision.

I bought a pair of MX2 but i still have to test them. I am waiting my Denon AVR-3802 receiver in order to achieve this task.. I can´t almost wait more!

My equipment:
- Philips DVD-957 player. Fantastic!
- Kenwood KAF-3030R Have a look at the buyer guide at www.hifichoice.co.uk on the amplifiers section
- Pair of MX3
- Pair of MX2

Still waiting for the MXC and the Denon!

Good look everybody. I am just very happy with my affordable equipment wich has given me a lot of satisfactions! If you are a normal-mortal user (which has almost no money like me!) go with this! I kicks asses to most expensive equipments!
