Strength:

Price, sound for their price, go quite loud for their size.

Weakness:

May lack when pushed to hard. No bi-wire for for the price who cares

This was my first serious set of speakers. At the time I was concerned that they wouldn''t be able to handle some of my heavier must and rap but they surprised me. They handle it fine and go quite low for their size (providing you don''t push them to hard). They made me hear music a new way but as I moved on to more expensive things they didn''t seem as able to fill some of music dvd''s by themselfs. I have now moved them to the rear and use Krix Lyrix for frount''s.

Tested lots and lots of speakers in their range and they appealed to me.

Strength:

Sound Clarity, soft trebel w/ nice mid-range Good bass sounding, Liteweight good color,(mine has a bi-wiring capability)

Weakness:

not made in UK but its no problem its still a Tannoy masterpiece and it sounds good to me

At first u would say this speaker couldnt do something special well ur wrong. This speaker is capable of spreading the news that this speaker sounded great!! U wouldnt believe it could play bass even it has a small diameter woofer which I doubted before. In my home theater set-up it is also good as front but it is ideally for rear position cause it couldnt play that loud for it has a low peak power level. The looks of this speaker is elegantly nice, nice grey oak color with a grey grill, liteweight so u can hang it on with the use of a mounting system. I dont know why other speaker of this kind have no bi-wiring terminal. But mine have those terminal for ease of use connection (may be this model are sold only in Asian market). A must have! Buy a pair now!!

Strength:

A good speaker for a cheap price

Weakness:

Quite laid back at times

What I needed were some small speakers (due to having a small room) they needed to be an upgrade from what I had (valdus 200's) yet still quite cheap.
After listening to them in the shop and comparing them against other speakers of the same price bracket I decided to take the Tannoys and was not disoppointed. The treble is sweet Midrange spot on and bass good for the size but nothing special.
As I highlighted in the weaknesses section these speakers have not got much in the way of attack but make up for that in just about everything else.
As I paid just £90 for these speakers I have nothing to complain about.

Strength:

Great clarity and treble.

Weakness:

None for a speaker of its size.

The MX1's are the firts set of speakers I purchased in my start-up home theatre system and I am driving them with the Yamaha RX-V393 receiver. So far the quality of the speakers has been great, with excellent sound clarity and detail, little distortion, as well as a surprising amount of bass (except for really low frequencies). The MX1's handle jazz comfortably and fill a relatively small room easily enough, but dance enthusiasts will find them limited.
For the price, they were far better than other speakers in the range like the JBLs, Sony's etc. For the person that has a limited budget but still wants good quality start-up speakers, the Tannoy's are a good buy. Base freaks should not even bother.
I will be moving to the rear shortly where I'm sure they'll continue to deliver the same quality sound.

Strength:

Punchy bass, natural treble, detailed midrange

Weakness:

none at the price

I am a hi-fi enthusiast and decided to dip my toes into home-cinema.I bought 2pairs of these at the amazing price of £76 a pair from Unbeatable.co.uk.
Using them with the Yamaha A5 and running them in for a few hours with Fat of The Land from Prodigy, I found that they
give an impressive enveloping for movies. I was impressed by the bass quality rather than depth from these little speakers- especially with the foam bungs taken out. They look and feel alot more expensive than even there retail price of £120, and I prefer the white paper cones to the black of other Tannoy models. Using them with better amps and sources, I feel these speakers could prove their mettle among more expensive rivals. I think that maybe the B&W 601S2's may have them beat though.
These speakers aren't crippled by high volumnes either and take what the Yamaha can throw at them very well indeed. They do well with music too, bringing out the sparkle and boogey factor from Whitney Houstons new album.
Overall these are very well balanced speakers and would do well with equipment costing several times more than their price.

Strength:

Midrange, Awesome bass for its size (minimonitor)

Weakness:

None so far

My brother sold his ARM1 and he asked me to look for a good replacement. I ventured on just about any speakers that I can hear/see. I tried auditioning B&W302, B&W 303, AE Aegis 1, even some latest designs from Infinity. Finally I saw this dark oak Tannoy MX1 at a mass-market audio-video shop (strange isn't it?). I asked the lady to hear it. She obliged. Wow, the sound is amazingly big and complete (I thought a subwoofer was hidden somewhere). I reported this to my brother and we then bought it. Now that it's here, I can give a full review.

Tannoy says MX1 is "small only in size". Take that as a gospel. It really sounds so big! Can plunge down to the low 30Hz in our room (no parallel walls, unique audio room). I sometimes play my Bass Mechanic CD and boy, I can hear the window grills vibrating. It's as if our Velodyne subwoofer is ON. I have to go over to the Velodyne to check if I did turn it on.

The midrange is so clear and natural. Listening to Kohala CD (hawaiian guitar masters) is like listening to the real thing. This speaker can reproduce guitars with amazing accuracy. Voices are rendered amazingly exact too. Diana Krall, Jacintha, Holly Cole have now become my favorites (hey I suppose to belong to the New Wave era!). We played Acoustic Alchemy (Reference Point CD) and I swear it sounds close to the Sonus Faber Guarneri we heard over at Upscale Audio Mega Mall.

Treble is a tad laid back, truly British. We can listen to this baby for hours without having that fatigue that we use to have with some other speakers.

Overall, I'd say this is a very good speaker for the money. You have to spend much more to find a more superior sounding replacement. For me, I'd rather buy more music instead of considering upgrading!

Strength:

Clarity, nice treble w/ punchy bass, stylish not that heavy good for mount placement

Weakness:

no bi-wiring,less peak level must not be played at high volume if u want this speakers to live longer.

Sorry about my last review, about the bi-wiring thing. My MX1 doesent have the bi-wire option, I've mistakenly described MX2 as MX1. Nevertheless, this doesnt compromise the quality sound of MX1. Even if it is small the sound is at par that those expensive ones.

With the size of this speakers it is ideal for rear effect channel of ur home theater set-up. U'R TRUELY SURROUNDED!!

I still give these speakers a rate of 5 stars.

Strength:

clear sound,unique midrange,Q bass!

Weakness:

none at this price range

i am assembling my first Home Theater System in my room, and
accoording to my stereo time exprience,i think of the Tannoy.I can said that honestly that the first reason for
me to choose Tannoy is it's fantastic finish. They just fit
my room's furniture.Back to sound topic, test with Louis Armstrong, the trumpet is full of energy and clear, the human
sound is rich and sweet, especially the female singer. The high range is comfortable without peeping my ear.and the bass is enough for me.I own many Jazz CDs,i think they do
really good with them.Mx1 is eazy to drive, with my av amp
YAMAHA A5 the sound is punching me!I think i will add a
power amp with them, but i will buy a MX3 for front first.
The speaker is not everything,it has it's own weakness.
But if u love what it brings to u,don't consider that much,
u will love them more and more.
