Strength:

Hard to say

Weakness:

Muddy base, lack of control and a blanketed effect with voices.

The R3s did not compare to the clarity and control of the R2s. Since the R3s are £200 more expensive I do not see how these speakers can compete. I ended up buying the R2s and getting better value for money as well as purer sound quality.

Strength:

Imaging, warmth

Weakness:

maybe too warm for some people

I think the previous reviewer was listening to a
pair that hadn't been broken in. Out of the box, the
R3s sounded muffled and flabby. but after 20-40 hours
bass tightened up and the high end opened up.
The r3s are warm speakers with suprising detail and
very good bass extension. well behaved when played
loudly. treble is clean and laidback but fairly
revealing. soundstage is a tad forward but deep and
imaging is very good. The R3s are a bit picky about
electronics and placement. mates very well with bright
amps/sources. keep out of corners, but likes a rear wall.

Strength:

precise, precise precise

Weakness:

none

Go and listen. I cannot explain.
I listened to a 30 different loudspeakers in this class, and so did my wife, separately.
Se both fell on these ones, without hesitation.
Sound is so precise, and so clear!
It changed our audio life.

Strength:

Looks, bass, midrange, treble, sound

Weakness:

A little too "relaxed"

Auditioned also B&W CDM1 NT's, ProAc Tablettes, and a pair of Dalis. These nice-looking floor-standing speakers are a treasure. I listen to a lot of live music and these speakers are perfect in that they forgive some deficiencies in the recording. The bass is controlled, not boomy at all, and the treble is very pleasant with all kinds of music. These are not for the high-endist but for the music-lover. Five stars and worth every dollar.
