Size, shyness at low volumes

I have to admit that I hadn't heard these speakers before I purchased them as none of my local Hi-Fi dealers had them to audition. I listened to a multitude of speakers prior to purchase and none seemed to meet my requiements. I found an online store that would take them back for a small fee if I wasn't happy so decieded to risk it and sent off for them baised on the various reviews I have read on-line. I hadn't wanted to spend quite so much on speakers but now that I have I am glad that I did. The stereo immaging and clarity of sound was amazing right out of the box, but as time went on they got noticably better and better. Unfortunately the speakers have highlighted weaknesses in other parts of my system, specifically my amplifier, and now I will have to replace that!
The only criticisim I have of them is that they seem shy at low listening volumes, but perhaps that is the fault of my amplifier, but when you crank it just a little they jump into life.

Sound, looks, value, size!

probably too big for some people.

Simply suberb. These babies are everything a good set of speakers should be. Sound is flawless, looks are great and the price is just right.

And as a bonus you can rent out the boxes they come in as a spacious 2 floor apartment!

Imaging, sound quality with excellent detail, bass response, price, ability to play full range of music!

Size

I wanted to love some of the other brands mentioned above, and listened to all of them extensively for the past two years. After much experimentation switching cables, sources, processors, etc. the Tannoy Saturn S10's stood out above the rest! Admitedly, several of the other brands looked better, but none played the range of music I listen to quite like the Tannoys. A couple, including the Monitor Audio's and JM Lab's played classical and jazz quite well, but you put some rock, country or a broadway musical on and they sounded thin, edgy and uninvolving. I feel the S10's image better than the Monitor Audio Silver 5's and there really is no comparison between the two on bass. In fact, I am now rethinking my need for a subwoofer as the S10's can put out a breathtaking amount of natural, tight, powerful bass! I attempted to get the same bass out of the MA's with mass loading, good cables and a robust amp, but they could never really touch the Big, Bad Saturns. Let me reiterate, these speakers put out amazingly accurate bass without sounding boomy, bloated or overdone. Though I don't really buy into all the of tweaking that some people make wild claims about on this site, I did find that different cables can make a difference. For my ears, the Kimber 4TC cables seemed to give just the right control to the bass while replicating clear, smooth highs on the upper end. A couple other cables I tried overdid the bass and took away from the amazing detail these speakers can produce. Don't take my word for it though, try your own "gear" and see what your ears think. Thus far, I am very satisfied with these speakers and am glad to finally have this part of my system rapped up!

natural, dynamic and easy to live with

After thirty odd years of listening to hundreds of high end speakers, I believe the comparably priced Vandersteens may have a slightly more open sound but they should be placed much farther away from the back wall. The ProAc Response 3.8's or 4's have more control and punch. And the hard-to-drive Thiel CS3.6's and CS6's excell at jazz and female vocals. But latter two brands cost three to four times what Saturn 10's cost and don't, IMHO, deliver that much more...certainly as long-term additions to your system

What I like about my S10's is the sonic truth they deliver and how, after almost a year of almost daily listening, they still wear very well on my ears. It is amazing how they naturally detail female voices, strings and percussion. And their full bass response is not boomy like some less refined brands and pricey subs. By the way, there is a SIGNIFICANT improvement in bass response between the S10's and S8's for a small price increase.

There's a good reason many recording studios use Tannoy monitors containing the same dual concentric drivers as the Saturn series: they reveal everything and add little. However, the Saturns are more pleasant to live with than Tannoy pro monitors.
