Strength:

A lot of speaker for the dollar. Nice deep base good mid's and high's.

Weakness:

Needs a lot of power to sound good. Can not use 12 guage speaker cable.

Most important, if you do not have a high output receiver or amp (At least 100 watts per channel)you will not like them. They do not sound good at all.I have two pair hooked in parallel and drive them with an older Pioneer sx-1250. Output is 160 watts at 8 ohm's and 220 at 4 ohm's. Running the receiver at 4 ohm's really makes these speakers work well. They do not sound as good as my Infinity sm-225's or my Polk RT-2000's. But none the less, for a set of speakers under $200.00 I do not think you can do any better.

Strength:

Price

Weakness:

Doesn't produce high Q clear sound

I paid $70 each, from circuit city. For the low price, these speakers are GOOD. They may not produce really high quality sound like those by bose or infinity but I added 2 JVC SP-ST1F to pick up the treble and clarity. Others may claim that the CR77 have no bass but I hooked them up to my Aiwa reciever and with the T-bass, my windows are constantly shaking!
Last word of advice, if you just want cheap yet OK speakers as fronts, this speaker is the best deal out there. Want high quality and don't mind the price? Go look at pages on Bose!

Actually the Sb-Cr77 has a 12" woofer instead ot 15" I bough the Sb-cr99 the one that does have the 15" woofer I am impressed with the sound and the house shaking bass the comes out when I turn them up. I have a Technics SA-EX140 reciever that has beraly enough power for them every now and then the speaker will click but I am happy it still sounds good at low volume and shakes everything a high volume great deal at Circut City at $99 each I reccomend buying it they are worth the money with the massive woofer

Great sound, monster bass, crisp mids and highs and good power

These speakers rock! They pump major sound and i only have a 75 Watt Aiwa reciver. At $50 a pop they were a steal. They have no distorion that I have heard and they make movies sound real. I rate this a 100% buy!

Strength:

If you ever run out of wood, pressboard burns pretty well.

Weakness:

paper cone tweeter, crossover, cabinet, woofer, spring clips, etc...

I bought these for my garage/party room.. I figured they'd be good beer-thumpin speakers. I could spill beer on them, they could get kicked, and I wouldn't care cause they are cheap. Besides, anything sounds good when you are drunk right? Wrong. Dead Wrong. Even with a BAC of .2% these things hurt my ears to listen to for longer than 5 minutes. The price is no excuse to subject yourself to these speakers... If you care enough about music to invest in a component stereo, there are plenty of decent sounding bookshelf models out there that wont break the bank, or your eardrums. (I scored a pair of jbl S26's for 150/pr that in my opinion sound better than any tower on the market for under 400/pr)

But enough over-dramatization. Honestly, don't waste your money. Those speakers that the white van men try to sell you in the parking lot have more to offer than these.

Strength:

They're large enough to sit your knick knacks on as long as they're not breakable.

Weakness:

The fact that anyone who knows speakers knows that these are inexpensive pretty much brings harsh judgment on them.

I think the model number for this page might not be correct. I the SB-CR77 has 12" woofers, but mine is the SB-CR99 which has 15" woofers. The description mentioned 15", so that's what I'm reviewing. Look at the spec sheets here to see that I'm correct about this:

http://www.dbe.emit.pl/obrazki/kolumny_opis.jpg

I don't have a massive budget to spend $8,000 on a speaker system. I run these with a 500 watt Kenwood receiver/amp (100 watts per channel) and right now I only have two speakers hooked up (two more identical speakers are being shipped to me as I write this). Yes, I liked them well enough to order two more to expand into the surround sound arena. I've seen other reviewers talk about horrid or undefined bass, or woofers shutting down because the crossover overheated. Well, in my experience running my speakers only 15 points below the maximum volume, I've never had my speakers cut on out on me. I think perhaps the other person might have an amplifier that's cutting out. I had one in my car do that from time to time.

I think that for 15" woofers, when playing music the attack on the bass is pretty good, but of course, having some 10" or 12" woofers in addition to the 15" would be much better. I bought these mainly to build a home theater system with a lot of frequency range and with that I've been very happy. I had friends over and we watched Dracula 2000. After seeing the movie just with two speakers, they liked it well enough that they wanted to invest in a speaker system, too.

I can't find anything to complain about with these. They've performed flawlessly in the 24 months or so I've had them, even after my roomie literally maxed out the volume on them playing Billy Gilman's "One Voice". Incidentally there was no distortion in the sound.

I played Psycho Circus from Kiss at 80% volume running 100 watts per speaker. After the song was done playing, there were candles other objects lying on the floor around the speakers. Pictures hanging on the wall were not vibrating...they were literally moving...swaying back and forth. Some dishes I had haphazardly stacked in the sink avalanched into the other sink. Yes, these speakers are loud and produce thunderous bass. Precision I can't comment on without reference to other speakers, but I'm very happy with them.

I hesitate, but do give the overall rating five stars because I must say that I've never actually heard the thousand dollar speakers perform. And right now, since I can't spend that much on speakers, I really dont't want to hear them because then, if there are any imperfections in my Technics speakers, I won't be able to rest until I replace them.

Strength:

Substantial sound, non shrill highs and picture frame shaking bass.

Weakness:

Not expensive?!?

These are value speakers, so I will rate them as such. My Dad is an audiophile, he has a full Infinity/Luxman system. 1000 watt amp etc, so I know what a hi-fi system should sound like. Now I am a pre college student who needed lots of sound for a home theater and music. I didn't have enough money for a subwoofer, so I figured teh next best thing was the 15" woofer. I have a problem with rattling and vibrating arounbd my home theater room when I turn the volume and bass up. It gets to teh point where anything loose within a 20 foot radius shakes, which can be annoying, but demonstrates the substantial soundwaves. The highs are crisp with fat cable, and teh bass is good, not to mention teh midrange which sounds smooth and unwavering when needed. Just listen to the cd oxygene and that should be a high note demonstration in itself. For home theater use I do not beleive it can be beat out by any speakers I have seen for the money, don't fool yourself, I am using a Harman Kardon avr 20 mkII receiver, with a relatively low wattage rating and teh amount of power that these babies puts out competes with just about anything. And at a fraction of the cost. If yous ee these for anywhere under 100 and you are looking for home theater/ music sound, you should buy them and enjoy wall shaking movie experiences. I have been testing them for about ayear now and plan on moving to digital decoding with them. They are a deal and they perform, while they may not be of teh hi-fi clarity of a very expensive system, for a medium budget, look cool and show off yer big woofers. I cannot say enough, but I will shut up now.

Weakness:

RMS Power

Picked the pair up at a factory outlet for $89.00 a pair!! They are the best value I have found in a mid-quality, yet good sounding loudspeaker. Good Clarity in the high end, rumbling bass at moderate listening levels, and a smooth overall sound. The RMS power rating of 100 watts is a possably exagerated, as both my Dennon surround reciever (at 80 watts x 5), and my old Pioneer SX-750 (at 60 watts x2) will drive these speakers to distortion. Nevertheless, they are capable of producing a more than acceptably loud signal with enough bass to rattle your dishes. When I compared these speakers with other floor models in the store, the first thing that struck me was overall clarity of sound. Better sounding speakers can definately be bought, but not at this price. Sound GREAT for music, and make acceptable (though not perfect) front channels for home theater. I currently use them as fronts and rears. GOOD VALUE!!!
