Strength:

Looks very good without speaker grilles.!!! Sound is great. Great bass for small drivers. Can be bi-amped and MDF construction is superior. Bought mine for $86 bucks a pair. I use these as surrounds. They are worth about three times their price. Rear-firing bass port for deeper extended bass.

Weakness:

Sensitivity is pretty low, 86db 1w/1m; which means they need alot of power.

These are great speakers for music and home theater. they sound incredible for surrounds.

Strength:

The bass and its looks.

Weakness:

Why bother trying to decipher its weaknesses when it sounds so good.

I'm not an audio junkie, but these speakers gives you more bang for the buck. But I didn't buy the speakers alone, it was included in a package (along with a receiver, equalizer, tape deck, and 60 cd changer, center and rear speakers, as well as the rack - all from Technics), and I got it all for $1198 (Canadian) which is pretty damn good.
I really like the bass it brings (for how much it's worth). And the overall sound is very clear. The salesman who sold it to me at the store turned it up (somewhere along 2:00 on the dial) and it still sounded great. It is my first time having a rack system and planning to upgrade (if possible). I'm doing some more research to find out more about speakers, amps, etc. I think I'll be using these speakers for a while. A suggestion: play a rap song (one with good bass) and feel the floor vibrate like it's just a piece of paper.

Strength:

Takes up a small amount of floor space, Great sound, Deep wall shakin bass, An unbeatable price (150/pr.)

Weakness:

Drain a lot of power unless bi-amped.

Well, I have owned these speakers for only 3 days and I have fallen in love with them. When I first hooked them up, I was dissapointed in how much power the speakers drained from my 130watt/channel receiver. When I read the manual and figured out how to bi-amp the speakers, they were great sounding and VERY LOUD. These speakers produced ear rattling bass, in my cement floor basement. I am very impressed with Technics speakers and the exceptional price of them!!

Strength:

excellent imaging, broad soundstage, smooth and detailed

Weakness:

speaker cabinet too tippy, need to add weight to the bottom

Some advice to the last two posters: These speakers are
inefficiet and require gobs of power. A 50 watt/channel amp
is much too weak to adequatley drive these speakers. I own
a surround sound rcvr putting out 100x5 and its still not enough power. At 12'oclock, the speakers come alive, at 2 0'clock they begin sounding course because the amp doesn't have the reserve to adequatley drive them.
As far as boomy bass goes, they are ported in the back and
need to be moved away from walls. The bass on these are
incredably tight and accurate for such a cheap speaker. Yes they have to work harder than a 12" driver but they can take it. Midrange and highs sparkle on these speakers. Again,
placement is key with these. The only negative quality besides their ineffiency is that they need to have some weight added to the bottom of the cabinet to make them less
tippy.

Strength:

Small footprint, decent looking, clear enough sound

Weakness:

Cabinet not so rigid, analitical but non-musical sound, low sensitivity (86dB/W/1m), made in US!!!

Well, I'm back with a new review on these speakers. Why? - just get a pair - actually was something like a bonus in my brand new system. So I didn't pay nothing for them!!!!
On my 50W/8ohm amp hardely I put them at 2o'clock - the bass drivers seems to blow away. 'Cause low sensitivity they are a tricky speakers, believe me!
Comparing with Sony SS-MF415: these ones has a good bass, but no mids. Somehow I prefere Technics in that particular case.
Conclusion: for the money ($0!) they are the best I can get - but I need to upgrade in the proximate future.

Value for money

Just got a set of these to replace my very old Technics SB-2070 speakers. Also got 2 sets of SB-T100s to run as centre / rear channels when I get a DVD audio player. The SB-T200 is an excellent speaker, you really can't go wrong for the $$$.

Strength:

Nice&tall floorstanding, small footprint, rigid-looking cabiet

Weakness:

Sound is dull, clear but dull, overrated (100W DIN? yeah...), boomy bass, cabinet not so rigid

Technics SB-T200 are FOR HT, not for music. For movies they deliver a decent sound (explosion, rain, screams, a truck engine - all are there). But for music - c'mon! Bass is boomy (don't expect to get 100% of deep bass), mids are uninspiring... ok, highs are clear enough, but maybe too shy.
Warning! Do not play too loud with them, only if you want to buy a new (better) pair of speakers. An real-50W amp. will be MAX for them. Even my service guy said that you are not allowed to play loud (shaking house level) - he personally have some issues with T-series. The speakers will get nasty and, in time, they will transform into nice-looking trash-music engine ;-).

Conclusion: if you can buy these at $100 - will be fine, at over $250 - look elsewere.

Strength:

Dual woofer usage actually achieves the killer bass that Technics claims. good size, looks and tweeter.

Weakness:

Absence of mid-range.

I've submitted this review just in case anyone has the same decision that I had to make a few months ago - whether to purchase the Technics T200 or SB-LX70 speakers. I sampled both extensively in the store checked reviews and product literature etc... TO GET TO THE POINT - the SB-LX70 are in my opinion much better speakers (based solely on sound quality). The T200s have great highs and a depth in bass that rivals the bass produced by the LX70s 12 inch woofers, but the lack of an adequate mid range in the T200 and the fact that the LX70 generally cost less cannot be overlooked. N.B. the dual woofers of the T200 viabrate violently when the volume is increased on a bass intensive song, whereas the LX70s are barely even bothered by the same increase ; this leads me to question just how much bass the T200s can handle before the speakers are damaged.
The T200s are great speakers for home theater use but not as good as the LX70s for Home Audio. The advantages of the T200 are : a good height(better soundfield). less width (hence easier to place in a small room). Magnetically shielded (can be placed near to the T.V.). Bi-wireable.
So If your looking for a good, cheap pair of home theater speakers I'd suggest giving the T200 a listen, but if you just want killer HI-FI speakers stick with the LX70.
Overall I have to give the T200s 4 stars.

Strength:

Fantastic bass! Highs are somewhat crisp, mids ok.

Weakness:

The highs are too piercing, mids aren't so strong.

I have owned these speakers for most of this school year and enjoyed them quite a bit. They have worked great for everything i need them for. I throw small parties here at my townhouse where i need the bass to throw up strong house beats and i use them for my theater system as front speakers. For the majority of the year i had them hooked up with just one connection to the low posts with the bi-wire bar still in. I read someones review on here about a month ago tho, where in they said that they hooked up the high posts to the A speaker terminals, and the low posts to the B terminals. After doing this....OH MY GOD!!!! My roomate and i are constantly in awe of how much of a difference this has made. These little speakers make my kitchen floor shake, and they're in the living room, 40 feet away!!!!! I would highly recommend these speakers and try hooking them up as described, it is totally worth it!! Good luck.

I recently bought a pair of Technics Sb-200. When I first saw them I was drawnto them because of their price (I go them for 50% off). When I asked them salesman to hear them I was imeditaly sold. With their dual 5-1/2" subwoofers
and 200 watt power handling they were perfect for my system. And with my income
($8 a week in allowance) they were the right price. The cone type woofers are excellent at handling bass with the volume turned up. And the 1" dome tweeters
do an excellent job at handling the high notes. The two put together and you don't even notice the absense of a mid-range. Positioning is easy, just place them about 10" away from the wall and they should sound great. For the price
that you pay for them and the quality of sound these speakers are perfect for
people on tight budgets. I give them 4.5 stars.
