The Antal XS speakers are only about half broken in but already sound fabulous. These speakers give you the best of both worlds - the openess, purity of tone, and transparency of stats and ribbons, but with the dynamics of box speakers. My room has a serious bass problem so I am using the Antals with a Pinnacle Baby Boomer sub. The two 8-inch woofers of the Baby Boomer mate perfectly with the Antals. In more bass-friendly rooms, you may not want a sub. The Antals sound great with all types of music. Wanna hear something to die for? Try any of the newly-released and remastered Beach Boys twofers like the Holland/Carl And The Passions-So Tough CD. The amazing harmonies of the Beach Boys on the Antals send shivers down my spine and make me want to cry. Pure magic. And I'm only using the Antals with an eleven year-old $350 Adcom preamp and a $650 Sonance amp. Big band, rock, blues, classical, the Antals do justice to them all. I've listened to Martin-Logan Scenarios, SL-3s and Aerius, Dynaudio (I auditioned a $3800 Dynaudio that couldn't top the Antal) Final 03 electrostatics (great speaker, but less bass then the Antals),several Paradigms, and Alon IIs. All good speakers, but the winner was the Antals. A terrific product at a real-world price. Viva La France!

I Just entered the shop to take a look at the new products...and I went out with a pair of $1100 boxes !!! They just 'got what it takes. The Antal is one of the best selling speakers of the french manufacturer Triangle. This floostanding speaker is about 3 foot high, has got a 1 bass, 1 midrange, 1 dome tweeter and is generally delivered in a "Terre de Sienne"-Black color. It can take place in a pure audiophile installation as well as in a mid-range home theatre system. Once connected with the right electronics, the Antal deliver a clear, dynamic, and very neutral sound. There is nothing more or less than music. The Antal are very fast and can play all kinds of music (you can also "pump up the volume", it doesn't bother them !) but they have a "little preference" for piano and voices because of their wonderful medium - high. The only "negative" point is about the bass range...which should be a bit deeper but this problem can be easily solved with the adjunction of a subwoofer(For example Triangle SAT3). Despite this little drawback I rated them 5 stars, and I'm sure they will bring as much excitement as they brought me.
By the way, if you want to know more about Triange, visit their site (in French) at HTTP://www.triangle-fr.com

I purchased the Antals about 4 months ago. I have had nothing but pure excitement since then. The Antal is a three way floorstanding speaker consisting of one woofer, one midrange, and one dome tweeter. I purchased mine for around $1,700. Triangle is a company based in France that builds it's own drivers. One of the Antal's best achievements are their ability to fill a room with great sound. Soundstaging on the Antals is incredible. Everything is there and how it should be. Nothing is overemphasized.
The Antals bring the live performance to you. Their don't shove it in your face. Every aspect is correct as it was meant to be heard.
With the right electronics the pair of Antals almost disappear. You don't hear the speakers you hear the music. I have a small room and for me I wanted a smallish speaker. The Antal is just that. Yet it shouldn't be judged by it's appearance the Antal has a HUGE sound for it's size. Some speakers sound as if they are holding back. The Antal's play, opening up the music, never hesitating. The Antals play this huge sound with terrific speed. The entire range of sound is so quick and clean.
These Antals play almost any music from bass heavy rap to the captivating sound of a piano. And if you want your music loud the Antals handle that fine as well.
In a nutshell if you want a speaker that plays great and fills a room with almost any music consider the Antal.

Strength:

Accuracy, accuracy, accuracy! Ditto +ve so far.

Weakness:

200 hrs burn-in for optimal result

Ditto all the positive evaluations before this review. Very sensitive speakers with absolute accuracy on high and mid range, bass is getting better and better as you get to the 200 hr burn-in, so be patient. Re-PRESENT-ation of music is clean and accurate for classical, vocal, some pop, but not for rock (I hardly listen to rock though). Every musical instrument of the orchestral is so distinctively presented before you. When listening to organ music (probably the most difficult to reproduce on any hi-fi system) the same can be said, but you need a subwoofer to FEEL the low bass. I have auditioned ProAc and AudioPhysic and Reference 3A but like Antal XS for best value, no doubt. I guess if you are a classical fan, Antal is a must audition.
6 stars for value and 5 for overall.
Systems: RogueAudio 99 and 88. XLO cable. REL Q sub (only when listen to organ music). Sony SACD 1.

After 5 months looking for speakers, I had narrowed my choices down to the Triangle Antal XS and the Cabasse Skiff. I finally chose the Antal because of their "softer" but still lively song, the Skiff being somewhat too sharp for me.
The new Antal, also called Antal XS now have 2 bass instead of one on the old version, which adds some bass to the sound (plus the previous midrange and dome tweeter).
Since it is my first real audio system, I cannot really compare but I do truly enjoy the sound, discovering a new quality in my CDs.
One last point, I've had mine for about $750 thanks to a special offer, which is quite nice...

Strength:

Planar-like mids and clear easy HF

Weakness:

Cabinet finish

I qualify myself as an Audio Enthusiast, rather than Audiophile because I don't have the Audiophile big bucks. I have been an enthusiast for nearly 20 years and have owned Maggies, ProAcs, Allisons and B&Ws. I qualify speakers in their ability to relate a live performance in the listening room. To that point, I am a Maggie-phile. I have owned MGAs, MG-10s, QR-12s and 1.5s. I love them! The problem is they are not decor friendly; ie wife hates them. The only non Maggie speaker (until the Antal) which reproduced the snap and immediacy of the live music was the ProAc. I owned Response 1SCs for about 18 months. But, no decent bass response. Thought about a sub, but wanted the consistency of a full range speaker. I have limited funds and needed to keep the selection below $2k. I listened many times to the AP Spark IIIs. Too analytical and edgy in the HF. I read the Sam Telig review in Aug. 2000 Stereophile on the Triangle Antal xs and became interested. I spent one (1) hour at the deal and bought them! The have planar-like transparency, good bass (not deep) and are very non-fatigueing. I have mated them with the Copland CTA-402 intergrated and seem they to be well matched. They have a long way to go in break-in time, but I am confident the Antals will bloom into real satifying speakers. These will have to due until I can afford the ProAc 2.5s!

Strength:

Sensitivity-can be used with low powered amp.

Weakness:

Forwardness - good with jazz vocals and low-medium listening but not pop at high volume

I've finally bought the Triangle Antals XS after waiting for 3-4 months.

I've been searching for a good pair speakers for about 1 year now. Been looking at Proac, Sonus Fabers, Audionote, Totem, Vienna Acoustics. All are not bad but deficient in a way or another...perhaps largely due to my low powered tube amp.

When I first tried the Triangle Antals....WOW! It's fast and so it can play even rock/pop music with my amp. The bass may not be the deepest but good...full and rich...and the speakers aren't even fully run-in yet. The best bit is that it's so revealing. Listening to classical (with solo violin or opera)leads to a whole new experience. You can really hear into the nuances of the strings or placement of individual singers as if you were sitting at the box seats of the opera houses.

But these speakers are quite forward so listening to pop music at high volume can be quite 'in your face', which I hardly do anyway.

Comparison with the smaller Zephyrs? It's quite similiar but the Antals are slightly richer with better lower end and smoother (perhaps the Zephyrs aren't properly run-in but so are the Antals.)The Zephyrs are still good value for the money if you have a small room. Antals are better for living rooms.

Bottom line: Use the Triangles with good tube amps and you'll be duly rewarded. After this whole year of speaker searching, I find it's the only sensible option (price/performance wise.

I'm happy but a bit tired at the moment (have been re-exploring all my CDs till late last night).

P.S I'm not related to the distribtor but if you're based in London, give AudiophileClub a call for an audition. I think these speakers are too understated.
