Strength:
Warm and smooth with a naturalness that makes you listen.
Weakness:
Occasionally too sweet sounding. Tweeter problem recently developed These speakers consistently amaze me with their warm, smooth balance and luxuriously deep and extended bass. Occasionally their balance sounds rather sweet but to be fair this promotes lengthly listening. They are are not the best with rock, especially those recordings with poor production values but do make it sound large and involving. Their dynamics and good soundstage transparancy can make classical sound eerily realistic, this is allied to natural, projected vocals. Unfortunately they have recently developed a tweeter sibliance problem but this will hopefully remedied soon. Similar Products Used: JM Lab Chorus 710 Pro Ac Studio 125 |

Strength:
Excellent crossover quality Solid and tight bass Good detail that is smooth and easy to listen to for hours. Built like a tank, and still looks great.
Weakness:
Not as transparant as some might like. I would describe the Vienna Bach as a speaker that will captivate. In its price range, I found some speakers with better imaging and transparency (Dynaudio 1.1 and Sonus Faber Concerto), but none provided the all around musical satisfaction that these wonders provide. The detail is quite good, compliments of an excellent 1" silk dome tweeter that Vienna uses on most of its models. And the crossover to the driver is really high quality, so listening fatigue is pretty much nil. Bass is tight and substantial for a cabinet this size. Its been said, but add the sand or lead shot without question. Rock and R&B are good on this speaker, albeit a little mellow sounding. (I just traded up from Klipsch RF-3 so a little jaded in that area...but still impressed with the Bachs). Want to hear these babies at their best? Classical. Strauss!!!!! WOW. Listening to Tales From the Vienna Woods Waltz on these it was like the speaker and the music were in complete harmony and were waving the Austrian flag and displaying some serious pride together. The cabinets are designed with an air of understated elegance. The Beech is very nice. You can tell this company puts a lot of thought into design and technology. If you are like me and listen to a wide variety of music, and want to spend around $1500, these are worth looking at. If you are mainly into strings and vocals, I was most impressed with Sonus Faber Concerto. For Rock only, KLIPSCH...but the Bachs are able to play all music types pretty well, and do it with a passion and pride that makes listening a bit more emotional than others I looked at. Strength:
Fit and finish is superb. Large soundstage for a what is a small speaker Very clean sound. Silk dome tweeters are magic. Great bass extension for its size. Vienna Acoustics built this speaker for people who love to listen to music.
Weakness:
None I have had these speakers for about two weeks. Perhaps a bit early for a complete review but I would like to give my early impressions of them. I really like the Vienna Acoustics. These represent my first dip into "high end" speakers. I looked at the B&W CDM1 NT and the Paradigm Studio/40. The original plan was to buy bookshelf speakers. My room is small and large floorstanders were not practical. After having sampled both the B&W and Paradigm I had the chance to listen to the Bachs. They had a fuller sound (ie larger soundstage) and seemed to be very relaxed. The highs are silky smooth and the mid-range is where this speaker really shines. It really comes across as a much larger speaker. You can hear every detail on the CD. This issue is no longer the quality of the speaker but rather the quality of the recording. I had a chance to listen to NIN The Downward Spiral. Is this the same CD I had before? These speakers bring out so much detail that I have to listen to the whole CD again to get all the subtle sounds that I was missing before. Amazing. Classical Music is where this speaker has its greatest strength though. Whether its Mozart, Bach,Haydn or John Williams or Howard Shore(Lord of the Rings!) the Bachs will simply amaze you. The sound is so natural and complete you can spend hours listening to tracks over and over again and hear more and more each time. In reading some of the reviews here, bass was mentioned as a weakness. I have to respectfully disagree. This speaker has more than enough bass for small rooms. With larger rooms this may be valid but with a speaker of this size its really quite impressive how much bass it can put out. Not boomy or undefined as you would get with lesser speakers. While its not exacly fair to compare bookshelf speakers with floorstanders please note the the Vienna Acoustics Bach actually take up less space than a bookshelf speaker . They are very slim for a floorstander. Fit and finish are better than anything I have seen in its price class. If you are the market for new speakers and are in this price range I would really insist that you give the VA Bachs a listen. They really are that good. Similar Products Used: Looked at the Paradigm Studio/40s and B&W CDM1NT. Both are great speakers but for the money I believe the Bachs offer more sound for the buck. |

Positively Everything!!!
Weakness:
Positively Nothing!!! Okay I’ve had my Bach’s for two months now and have put at least 100 listening hours on them and I think I’m ready to give you my spin on them. Actually, I wanted to post a review after only 3 or 5 hours after hooking them up (I was that excited) but they were not even broke in. All I can say at this point is they are TOTALLY AWSOME!! My current set up includes the following: Krell 150A Amp Krell 250P Pre Amp Adcom 515 Line Enhancer Denon DCD 5 Disk CD Player (soon to be replaced with Rega, Rotel, Arcam or maybe an Accuphase) Monster Cable Ref. Interconnects (soon to be replaced with XLR connects . . . Kimber??) Monster Cable MX Series Speaker Wire Vienna Acoustic Bach’s First, I bought these gems from Tweeter here in Chicago. I actually auditioned several pairs of speakers, but when I made my purchase I was seriously looking at the B&W 805’s. I listened to the B&W’s and I was impressed with the overall sound stage that they offered, but I was not blown away like I thought I should be. I thought about listening to some of the other speakers at this store (Audio Consultants) which by the way is where you go in Chicago to buy the best of the best (Less Vienna Acoustics); however I couldn’t afford them or they were just too big for my listening environment. So I left the store with the idea of coming back in a week for another audition and then possibly a purchase of them. On the way home, I saw the Tweeter Store and decided to stop in. Boy am I glad I did that! I was drawn to the Bach’s almost immediately. I was excited about the small speaker size and the absolutely beautiful cabinets! I was originally looking for bookshelf’s on stands but these Bach’s were floor standing and were no bigger than the 805 and were towers!! I gave the Tweeter Sales Rep two CD’s that I had for speaker auditions; Basia Time & Tide and Fleetwood Mac Tango in the Dark. I requested that that he hook up the Krell 300 Integrated Amp and Krell CD player. After the first 15 seconds of Basia I knew that I was going to walk out the door with a pair of these speakers. I cannot even begin to tell you just how wonderful these speakers sounded. The sound stage was the best I have ever heard for this type of speaker and size. The mid range was in a word intoxicating. The bass response was exactly where it should be; not muddled or weak but punched when it needs to |

Strength:
Smooth, clear highs and mids.
Weakness:
Bass a little shy, but adequate I bought these used off ebay. They arrived in "like new" condition. I love them. They are like maple syrup in my small studio apartment. They don't rock (but then turning on my subwoofer takes care of that problem). They just have such a sweet sound that is a pleasure to listen to. |

Strength:
Well, just about everything. But seriously, clarity, detail, tonal accuracy, and scale are astonishing. Super-revealing but not harsh.
Weakness:
Not the world's best soundstaging speaker, but who really cares? Not me. Well, what can I write? These are truly great speakers. And that does not include the usual "for the money" caveat one usually attaches to something in this price range. At $1500 they are a steal. I searched for many months to cap off my new stereo (Naim CD player, integrated and power supply, and recently acquired Rotel tuner) and these did it. I was looking for speakers that delivered at least as much clarity and detail and more bass and scale than my MA 700 PMCs. I got it. Nothing less that the ProAc Response 1.5s were needed to surpass the Bachs. And that's twice the price. I even prefer the Bach to the VA Mozarts. Similar Products Used: Gobs. The last competitor before buying these were the Joseph Audio RM22si Signatures |

Strength:
Wonderfully balanced speakers. I have read reviews which were critical of the bass response, but I don't agree. The defining quality of these speakers is their balanced production of all forms of music, and I've listened to everything from classical to rock on them. Not to mention, if you want the bass, it's there, although the speakers don't look happy when their producing it, the bass is crystal clear. I never knew how good a speaker could sound untill I heard my Vienna Bach's. I tell everyone who asks about them that they replace your entire CD collection. I'm hearing aspects of my collection I literally was unaware of altogether.
Weakness:
If you're interested in distorting, room shaking bass, you won't get it here. Why? Because in most cases the above qualities are undesirable to begin with. If their's any weakness in these speakers it's in the listeners ears. Listen to a pair of Vienna Bach's and they will sell themselves for you. Of this I have no doubt. |
